After Tang Li finished treating his wounds, he immediately came to the hospital. When he saw that the door to my ward wasn’t fully closed, only lightly ajar, he was afraid I might be sleeping and didn’t want to wake me, so he tiptoed inside quietly.
But I still heard some movement, and in an instant, anger surged up inside me. I thought it was the police from earlier coming back to lecture me again.
“You people have really gone too far, haven’t you? You call yourselves public servants, but you’re all being manipulated by those with power and influence. There’s no justice left at all, is there?”
I said all this with my back facing the door.
The incident where I called the police and ended up being reprimanded instead happened around the same time Tang Li got into a fight at the mall, so he only received the news later while on his way here.
“It’s okay, it’s me.”
Tang Li’s voice instantly swept away my earlier displeasure, as if I’d suddenly seen a glimmer of hope—a shoulder I could lean on. But I immediately cut off that thought.
I was so startled that I almost screamed. I clutched my chest tightly with one hand and let out a long sigh.
Stammering a little, I said to Tang Li, “Y-you… why are you still here?” I looked at him with an awkward yet helpless expression.
He pulled over a chair and sat down, as if completely ignoring the awkwardness. Calm and unbothered, he leaned back slightly, stretched lazily, and looked at me in a very relaxed manner.
Tang Li said lightly, “I came to see you.”
He said many things to me after that.
Just as I was about to head back to the bathroom, Tang Li stopped me. Then, step by step, he walked toward me from the hospital bed.
At that moment, my mind was completely blank. I even unconsciously took a step back, as if I were dodging some terrifying beast.
But Tang Li kept moving closer, step by step, until my calves hit the wall behind me and I was about to slip. Tang Li immediately reached out and wrapped an arm around my waist.
For a moment, I didn’t know what to say at all. I just stared at Tang Li with wide eyes, dumbfounded. One of his hands was holding my waist, while with the other, he picked up a small box from the bedside table and handed it to me.
Only then did I come back to my senses. I cleared my throat twice and forced myself to stand properly again. Seeing this, Tang Li very gentlemanly took a step back and withdrew his hand from my waist.
It was as if Tang Li could see right through me. He immediately said to me,
“Before, you already had a family, so there was no place for me to step in. But now, you belong to yourself. You’re no longer anyone else’s. Let’s start over. Let me take good care of you. I won’t let you suffer these grievances anymore.”
“N-no, thank you. I’m not thinking about these things right now.”
After saying that, I felt like an ostrich burying its head in the sand. I immediately turned around, went into the bathroom, and locked the door.
After tidying myself up a bit, I came back out.
“Haha, I didn’t see anything. I didn’t see anything at all.”
Yu Guo’s voice suddenly rang out.
So startled, I immediately pushed Tang Li away. Tang Li just smiled and didn’t say anything.
Once Yu Guo, the walking ball of sunshine, came in, the room was instantly filled with laughter.
She glanced around at the surroundings, then narrowed her eyes and said,
“President Tang, you’re such a big shot, yet you’re letting our Xiao Meng stay in a place like this?”
When she said that, Tang Li looked around the ward. It really was just an ordinary hospital room. Before he could say anything, I already knew what he was going to suggest and immediately refused.
“I’m fine staying here. Don’t change my ward. Even if it’s bad, I won’t move. The harsher the environment, the more it helps me remember my lessons.”
Hearing this, Tang Li knew that once I made up my mind, there was no arguing with me, so he didn’t say anything more.
Instead, Yu Guo was the one who became unhappy.
