I knew she was also afraid that this matter might have some drawbacks, which was why she said that. But she was underestimating me too much.
“I’ll tell you this—let’s part peacefully. If you agree to sign this divorce agreement, we won’t pursue the matter of your mother asking us for the bride price, nor the incident where we were beaten. Otherwise, with Tiantian’s father’s connections—he knows people in both the police station and the procuratorate—we’ll definitely sue you until you rot in prison.” My mother-in-law spoke, playing the bad cop.
“An egg can never withstand a rock. As long as I agree to the divorce, you won’t do anything else to my family, right?” I stared fixedly at my “mother-in-law.”
“Yes. As long as you obediently divorce, everything else can be discussed.” As Yu Jin spoke, he took out the divorce agreement he had long prepared.
Seeing this, I also turned off the recording. After all, they had already said everything I needed—no effort wasted at all.
Yu Jin held the divorce agreement and pen and walked over to me.
I picked up the pen, pulled off the cap, and was just about to sign when Yu Guo tugged at me.
I knew what she meant. If everyone were as merciful as I was, then these people would be able to remain at large forever.
I smiled at her and still signed my name.
The three of them took the divorce agreement, smiles plastered across their faces—there was no need to mention how happy they were.
Fang Tian’s voice sounded extremely gentle.
“Oh right, I helped pack up the things from your place earlier. Should I send them to Mr. Tang’s residence, or will you come pick them up yourself?”
I smiled and said, “Thank you for your kindness. After I’m discharged, I’ll come pick them up myself. And I don’t live at Mr. Tang’s place. I don’t want people to think I’m the kind of person who has no shame.”
Originally, I didn’t plan on taking those things anymore, but thinking about the micro camera, I still had to put on a show and go collect them.
“Look at you—being kindhearted and still getting treated like a donkey’s liver and lungs.”
Yu Mu, who was quite thoughtful toward Fang Tian, linked arms with her and walked out of the ward.
“Let’s go. Staying in the hospital too long isn’t good. You’re pregnant, after all.”
Yu Jin followed right behind them and left as well. The place finally became much quieter.
“Xiao Meng, how could you do this? Are you stupid?” Yu Guo looked at me, her eyes full of pity.
“Don’t worry about me, I’m fine. I won’t let myself suffer losses for nothing. But in the future, you need to see people clearly too—don’t end up finding someone like this kind of scum again.”
I truly felt calm about this matter now. At this point, no matter what else happened, it was all within what I could bear.
Perhaps women like me would never have even a shred of hope for the rest of our lives.
One week later.
It was finally the day I was discharged. Tang Li came to pick me up, and I didn’t refuse.
I went to the entrance and asked Tang Li, “Can we head out now?”
Tang Li didn’t say anything—he just nodded.
Only then did I notice that Tang Li was walking a bit slowly today. I knew he was deliberately waiting for me.
He didn’t like trouble and didn’t seem to bring much with him; even his trunk wasn’t full.
But when I looked at the direction we were heading, it wasn’t toward my rental place, nor toward the Yu family’s home. Didn’t we agree to go pick up my things?
“Where are we going?” I asked in confusion.
He answered patiently with a smile, “Of course, to celebrate your double happiness.”
“Double happiness?” I looked completely bewildered.
Tang Li steered with one hand while saying to me, “First, you’re being discharged today and your body has recovered well. Second, we’re celebrating that you’ve completely escaped from that place.”
I thought about it. I really had lived in darkness for a long time, and I didn’t want to dampen Tang Li’s mood, so I agreed.
Tang Li walked in front, and I followed behind—just like back then.
