Chapter 33
(1 / 2)
The police officer originally wanted to refuse, but after thinking about the phone call from his superior just now, and then looking at the background of the woman in front of him, he said, “Miss Fang really thought this through. Then I won’t disturb you any further.”
After the police left, the whole family breathed a sigh of relief and began flattering Fang Tian one after another, praising her endlessly. It was as if they were even more satisfied with this “fake” daughter-in-law.
This family now appeared even more harmonious. The lights inside the house stayed bright all night long.
I never expected that things would develop in a direction completely opposite of what I had imagined. The evidence I had painstakingly prepared turned out to be completely useless.
Lying in the hospital bed, I picked up the phone full of expectation. But the news I received afterward was like a bolt from the blue.
“Hello, may I ask if this is Miss Meng? We are the police. We just received your report and have verified the series of incidents. It turns out that what you reported is false.”
The intern police officer finished saying all this in one breath, not giving me any chance to argue.
He immediately continued, “However, since you are a citizen of this city, we are obligated to help resolve your issues. And since you are currently in the hospital, we will not pursue criminal responsibility this time. But please do not add this kind of meaningless workload for us again in the future.”
After saying that, he hung up right away.
I was left alone in the hospital, confused and silently heartbroken.
I looked out the window. It felt as if none of the beauty in this world belonged to me anymore. Helpless, I put down the phone, lay flat, and closed my eyes.
I thought to myself, “Fortunately, my younger brother has already gone back. Otherwise, if he heard the police say this, who knows how furious he would be. Beating Yu Jin would be a small matter, but assaulting the police would be a serious crime.”
Inside Tang Li’s office, the atmosphere was as oppressive as smog. Every secretary delivering documents and every assistant bringing coffee did not dare to stay for even a second longer.
He had completely changed from his usual gentle and understanding demeanor. Today, he was especially harsh on employees. When he arrived earlier and saw some employees gossiping about family matters near the door, his face immediately darkened, and he scolded them severely.
Earlier, when the general manager came in to report on work and made a minor mistake—something Tang Li would normally point out patiently—he instead harshly berated him.
“Hello, what is it?” Tang Li was already irritated when he heard the phone ring. But when he saw it was the person he had specially assigned to investigate me, he answered. Even so, his voice was still icy.
The person on the other end felt as though they were being frozen even through the phone.
“President Tang, here’s the situation: Miss Meng’s younger brother went to her hospital room this morning. After that, they called the police. However, Tang Tian’s father bribed the police, causing them to handle the case incompetently. They even turned the blame back onto Miss Meng. Now that family is happily reunited, and he is currently shopping for baby products with Fang Tian at the shopping mall downstairs from our building.”
“I understand.” Tang Li hung up immediately after speaking.
But he was still muttering under his breath, “Happily reunited, huh? Happily reunited…”
As he spoke, his eyes filled with murderous intent. He grabbed his phone and suit jacket and strode out.
This immediately drew the attention of the employees, and whispers spread nonstop. Their president never arrived late or left early, yet today he had lost his temper so badly—like a bomb ready to explode.
Like a raging storm, Tang Li swept through the streets like a passing typhoon. His fury made pedestrians turn to look.
When Tang Li arrived at the elevator, he directly pressed the button for the floor that sold baby products.
Along the way, every staff member who saw him greeted him politely. Normally, he would smile and nod in response. But now, it was as if he heard nothing and saw nothing, walking straight toward the baby products floor.
