Chapter 7: “The Little Girl Is in My Room”
“Who is this?” Fu Nanzhou frowned.
Chu Nan thought for a moment and cautiously asked, “Excuse me, is Lu Xi there? I’m here to take her home.”
Fu Nanzhou’s gaze instantly turned cold.
Looking through the screen, he examined Chu Nan. “Who are you to Lu Xi?”
Chu Nan was slightly stunned. He hadn’t expected Lu Xi to actually be here.
This was a luxury villa worth hundreds of millions. Who was speaking? What was his relationship with Lu Xi? A sugar daddy?
Impossible.
He had been monitoring Lu Xi. If there were any men around her, he would have known.
“Speak,” Fu Nanzhou said impatiently.
Chu Nan quickly replied, “I’m Lu Xi’s… I’m her brother-in-law.”
He originally wanted to say he was her boyfriend to assert ownership, but thinking of the man inside this mansion—someone he could never even reach socially—he immediately changed his words.
Fu Nanzhou’s expression eased slightly. For a moment, he had thought Lu Xi was deliberately hiding things from him.
“Lu Xi already—”
“Uncle!”
Suddenly, Jiang Yi interrupted Fu Nanzhou, squeezing past Chu Nan and shouting into the camera:
“Uncle, open the door.”
Chu Nan was stunned when he heard Jiang Yi call the villa owner “uncle.” His tone instantly became tense.
“Yi Yi, this is your uncle’s house?”
Jiang Yi feigned surprise. “Oh? So it’s brother-in-law! How did you know Xi Xi is here?”
Chu Nan tested cautiously, “Xi Xi told me she found a boyfriend. Don’t tell me it’s your uncle?”
Jiang Yi laughed. “Hehe, of course not! Brother-in-law, you can go back. Xi Xi and I are staying at my uncle’s place.”
Chu Nan narrowed his eyes. “How old is your uncle?”
Although his tone was polite, his gaze was guarded—worried Jiang Yi’s uncle might “take” Lu Xi away.
Jiang Yi casually lied, “My uncle is in his fifties, and he’s even a monk now. He lives in a temple, eating vegetarian food and chanting scriptures. He’s rarely home. Only we live here.”
Chu Nan still didn’t relax. “Jiang Yi, your uncle’s identity seems unusual. Xi Xi never mentioned him before.”
Jiang Yi waved her hand. “Oh, just a distant relative. A lifelong bachelor. He dotes on me the most, so we’re close. This house is basically mine. Xi Xi is safe here.”
Chu Nan nodded calmly. “Since he’s your uncle, I’m relieved. It’s late, I won’t disturb you. I’ll visit him another day.”
“Okay, brother-in-law, goodbye.”
Jiang Yi waved. After Chu Nan left, she muttered under her breath:
“Idiot.”
Think you can just meet my uncle whenever you want?
Inside the villa
“Why are you here?” Fu Nanzhou asked as he came downstairs, clearly displeased, looking at his niece.
Jiang Yi smiled innocently. “Uncle, I’m here to find my future aunt.”
“You really are bold,” she added. “My best friend made a mistake and married the wrong person, and you didn’t even correct her—you just dragged her to the registry office.”
Fu Nanzhou frowned. “Don’t call her that.”
Jiang Yi’s smile faded slightly. “Alright, alright. Only ‘that one’ can be my aunt. But uncle, why did you marry Xi Xi?”
“I’m warning you,” she continued, lowering her voice dramatically, “if you bully her, I’ll have to cut ties with family. I’m very fast with my hands.”
Smack!
Fu Nanzhou slapped her lightly on the back of the head.
“No manners. No girl-like behavior. Careful, no man will want you.”
“Uncle!” Jiang Yi pouted in protest.
Fu Nanzhou chuckled. “Go. That little girl is in my room.”
Lu Xi in the room
Lu Xi hadn’t slept at all.
The room was too big, too empty, and unfamiliar. She had no sense of security.
When Jiang Yi arrived earlier, she had become even more alert and had been waiting.
Jiang Yi complained, “Fu Lao San hit me so hard my head almost cracked.”
Lu Xi quickly rubbed her head. “Is your uncle the third in the family?”
“Yeah,” Jiang Yi said. “He’s fifteen years younger than my mom. My aunts and mom spoil him a lot.”
“Oh right, your brother-in-law found this place. Did you tell him?”
Lu Xi quickly shook her head. “No, I wouldn’t dare.”
“Don’t ever tell him,” Jiang Yi said seriously. “My uncle is rich, and your sister’s mother-in-law is very scheming. If they find out, they’ll treat you like a money tree. It’ll be exhausting.”
Lu Xi nodded. “I know.”
“Alright, sleep. I know you can’t sleep, so I’m here to keep you company. Don’t touch me at night.”
The two girls laughed softly, their voices bright and youthful.
Fu Nanzhou stood outside the door, about to knock—but paused when he heard the laughter.
He slowly lowered his hand, a faint helpless smile forming on his lips.
That little girl… she seems so obedient, yet she laughs so freely with Jiang Yi. Quite interesting.
Next morning
The two girls woke up late.
At first, Lu Xi was very cautious, afraid of disturbing the owner.
Jiang Yi yawned. “Relax, my uncle already left. He’s a workaholic.”
“Even on weekends?” Lu Xi asked in surprise.
Jiang Yi chuckled. “Weekends don’t exist in his world. He works overtime.”
Lu Xi looked around the luxurious villa. “No wonder he can afford a place like this. He really works hard. I should learn from him.”
Jiang Yi fell silent.
Silly Xi Xi actually thinks this villa was bought purely from hard work?
Well… not entirely wrong, but her uncle has so much money he can’t even spend it all.
Better not tell her. She might get scared and run away.
“Xi Xi, let’s go eat soup dumplings and buy some clothes,” Jiang Yi said.
Lu Xi hesitated. “But I…”
The words “I don’t have money” were too hard to say.
Jiang Yi hooked her arm. “You’re starting work soon. As your best friend, I’m buying you a few outfits. If you refuse, we’re done. And don’t forget—you owe me a super nice birthday gift later.”
Lu Xi finally nodded. “Deal.”
Shopping mall
Lu Xi came out of the fitting room wearing a dress Jiang Yi picked.
“Yi Yi, what do you think—”
Her voice froze.
She saw Chu Nan.
Beside him… stood her sister’s mother-in-law’s arranged match.
Jiang Yi also froze. “What the hell… your brother-in-law? And who’s that man next to him?”
Lu Xi’s face stiffened. “He’s the man my sister-in-law tried to introduce to me.”
