Chapter 8: Fu Nanzhou Pretends to Be Lu Xi’s Boyfriend
Lu Xi’s sister had sent her photos this morning—it was this man. His name was Li Gang.
Her sister even sent her a voice message.
“Xi Xi, my mother-in-law insisted I send you his photo. I think he looks okay—not too old, right? He doesn’t look like he’s from 1982; if you told me he was born in 1990, I might believe it.
“My mother-in-law said her nephew is already in Beijing, specifically here to meet you for a blind date, so you still need to see him. I know you don’t want to, but I can’t refuse her. Just meet him first, and if you don’t like him, we’ll reject him later. What do you think?”
That was her sister’s exact words.
Lu Xi didn’t reply, because she truly didn’t want to meet him—but she didn’t expect to run into him anyway.
Her expression stiffened. She pulled Jiang Yi, trying to hide, but it was too late—Chu Nan had already seen her.
However, Chu Nan didn’t walk over immediately. Instead, he said something to Li Gang, who then left first.
After that, Chu Nan quickly walked into the clothing store.
“Xi Xi, don’t hide,” Chu Nan said with a faint smile.
Lu Xi sighed heavily, unwilling but forced to greet him. “Brother-in-law.”
Chu Nan smiled indulgently. “Look how scared you are. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t let our Xi Xi go be a stepmother to my cousin’s three kids.”
“I’ll treat him to dinner tonight and send him away.”
Lu Xi didn’t feel relieved. Her sister-in-law was very strong-willed—this wouldn’t be so easy to settle.
“Xi Xi, is this your new outfit? It suits you well. How much? I’ll pay for it,” Chu Nan said, his gaze lingering on her.
Lu Xi felt uncomfortable under his stare and quickly refused. “No need, brother-in-law. I have money.”
Chu Nan didn’t care about her words. He just looked at her.
She had grown into a real woman now. In loose hoodies, it wasn’t obvious—but in this fitted dress, her figure was fully revealed.
Still pure, untouched… carrying the faint scent of innocence.
If placed next to Jiang Yi’s uncle, it was too dangerous.
“Xi Xi, I’m off today. Come home with me. It’s not good to keep disturbing your uncle,” Chu Nan said.
Jiang Yi waved her hand. “It’s fine, brother-in-law. My uncle is usually very busy. Right, Xi Xi?”
Lu Xi froze, then quickly nodded. “R-right. My uncle is doing… exorcisms. He won’t be home tonight.”
As soon as she finished speaking—
A cold voice came from behind.
“Exorcisms?”
Lu Xi’s scalp instantly tingled.
Jiang Yi also froze—she hadn’t expected her uncle to appear so suddenly.
She quickly ran over, clasped her hands together. “Uncle, please, please pretend to be Jiang Yi. Just act as Xi Xi’s boyfriend for a bit.”
Fu Nanzhou frowned slightly—but still cooperated.
Jiang Yi pulled him to Lu Xi. “Xi Xi, Brother Jiang is here.”
Lu Xi’s face turned red. She lowered her head and didn’t dare look at him. “Brother Jiang.”
Fu Nanzhou responded lightly, “Mm.”
His gaze fell on the top of her head, and he gave a soft, cold chuckle.
Talking nonsense… both of them.
Exorcisms?
He’d like to “exorcise” her properly himself.
Chu Nan had been observing Fu Nanzhou carefully. The voice sounded familiar—like the owner of that luxury villa last night.
And his aura… too refined, too imposing. Not an ordinary man.
“Hello, Mr. Jiang,” Chu Nan said politely. “I’m Xi Xi’s brother-in-law. I’ve worked at the Fu Group for three years, just got promoted a week ago, now I’m an engineering manager.”
There was a hint of pride in his tone.
At thirty-five, reaching this position in the Fu Group was indeed impressive.
Fu Nanzhou merely nodded slightly—he didn’t even shake his hand. His attention stayed on Jiang Yi and Lu Xi.
“I have something to do. I’ll leave first.”
“Okay, Brother Jiang, take care,” Jiang Yi said smoothly.
Lu Xi felt awkward.
Fu Nanzhou deliberately teased her. “And Xi Xi? Not saying goodbye to Brother Jiang?”
Lu Xi bit her lip. “Brother Jiang… see you later tonight.”
“Mm. See you tonight,” Fu Nanzhou said with a faint smile.
Not far away, his assistant Ding Yu looked surprised.
As a competent assistant, he could sense everything.
Just now… their CEO smiled.
Not only that, he even bent down to tease that girl.
Their boss was never frivolous—yet he was acting unusually relaxed today. Ding Yu even wondered if he was seeing things.
“Mr. Fu, you said yesterday in the meeting that you were going to get married… were you joking?” Ding Yu asked cautiously.
Fu Nanzhou gave him a cold look. “Do you think marriage is a joke?”
Ding Yu froze. “Sorry, Mr. Fu.”
So it was real.
And that girl… was the CEO’s wife.
A substitute?
With how devoted Mr. Fu was rumored to be… that girl might end up crying badly one day.
After Fu Nanzhou left, Chu Nan immediately looked at Jiang Yi.
“That Mr. Jiang… what’s your relationship with him?”
“Nothing special,” Jiang Yi said casually. “Just a neighbor. Oh right—he’s Xi Xi’s boyfriend now. Brother-in-law, are you happy she has a boyfriend?”
Chu Nan’s expression darkened instantly.
“Xi Xi, why didn’t you tell me or your sister?”
Lu Xi stubbornly replied, “I’m already twenty-two. Do I still need permission to date?”
Chu Nan was momentarily speechless.
“What kind of person is he? What does he do? Do you even know his background?”
Lu Xi nodded. “Don’t worry, brother-in-law. I’m not a child.”
“I won’t talk anymore. I need to prepare for my job. I start at the Fu Group on Monday. I’m going shopping with Yi Yi.”
Chu Nan left with a dark face and immediately called Lu Yao.
“Xi Xi found a boyfriend just to avoid meeting the blind date,” he said.
Lu Yao was shocked. “Since when?”
“I don’t know. I saw him at the mall today. He looks older than the cousin. When I asked what he does, he couldn’t even answer properly—probably some lazy street guy.”
Lu Yao grew anxious. “Xi Xi is really irresponsible… she didn’t even discuss something so important with me.”
“It’s partly Mom’s fault too,” Chu Nan said. “She insisted on the blind date.”
Lu Yao sighed. “But the cousin is at least decent and has money… better than some unknown guy.”
Chu Nan nodded. “Let’s leave it to you. Don’t tell Xi Xi yet. Arrange the meeting first.”
Lu Yao agreed. “Alright, I’ll arrange it.”
