Part 2 Chapter 86
***
Days After Attacking Richard…
Krista had been locked away in the family mansion for days now.
She lay motionless, like a corpse.
All she did was stare blankly at the high ceiling from her bed.
Since being locked up, no one had come to see her—not her father, nor her brothers. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to visit; it was more that they couldn’t, as they never knew when she might react violently.
She only knew the outside situation from the servants’ reports.
“Lord Mario’s funeral has been held.”
She couldn’t believe it. The brother she thought her father would send to kill Alexander had ended up dead himself.
It was a relief. But then, she got scared of herself for feeling that way. How could she think that? After all, he was her brother.
“He died after a fight with Lord Alexander.”
Krista was horrified. The person who killed Alexander was no one but herself.
She remembered the letter with her name on it. Alexander must have sent a reply filled with joy, thinking he’d finally meet her. But instead, what awaited him was not his sister, but…
“Ahhh! Nooo!” Krista screamed, throwing herself into a frenzy.
Then she thought again. Mario, that bastard. If he was going to die, he should have died alone. If I had known he was going to die so stupidly, I would’ve killed him myself.
She knew all the disgusting things Mario had done in the shadows while turning a blind eye and pretending not to see it, even though she knew.
Why? Why did she do that?
Why? Why did she let that cockroach live for so long?
“I was strong! I could’ve killed him in an instant! Why did I wait? I wasted so much time, so much time!”
“Alex, Alex…”
She thought of her brother. I’m sorry. I should’ve killed that bastard earlier. He still had so much life ahead of him, and I took it all away.
I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…
Alexander must have blamed himself as he died. This realization shattered Krista, making it impossible for her to think clearly.
She didn’t want to live anymore.
But Krista still held on, hoping for someone—anyone—to come and find her.
She clung to the hope that at some point, someone would come.
Anyone from her horrible family would do, as long as one person came for her!
Just one person, please! Come and see me!
She longed for that, desperately.
“Ahhh!”
“Run, run away!”
Was God answering her wishes?
The always quiet mansion suddenly erupted in chaos. There was no warning at all.
“Open it! What’s going on?!”
“Open the door!”
Krista weakly got up from her bed, then staggered to the couch and sat down.
The maids were desperately knocking on the door from the other side.
She had no idea what was happening outside. All she could hear were terrifying screams and loud gunshots.
“How foolish.”
Krista muttered indifferently to the maids pleading to be let out.
“Wouldn’t it be safer to keep quiet inside here?”
What was happening outside?
It was like a war. Someone, though Krista didn’t know who, had bravely invaded the stronghold of the superhumans. One thing was certain.
How were they able to do it?
She wasn’t sure, but if they didn’t have some kind of strength or support, they wouldn’t have dared.
Was it the royal family?
Or maybe some nobles with grudges against Bassenberg had united and raised an army?
Whatever the case, Krista remained indifferent.
“I knew this day would come.”
Bassenberg was evil.
Evil was bound to vanish.
If they didn’t want punishment…
“They shouldn’t have lived this way.”
This was the price to pay.
And sooner or later, they would have to pay it.
And Krista had to pay it too, whether she wanted to or not. She had lived under the name of Bassenberg.
Ah…
Why did they do it? The fools. It was strange how they acted like gods, without a care or a sense of guilt.
Someday, even we could become ants. Who knows if there’s a real god out there who will crush us? Why didn’t they worry about that? They thought they could just close their eyes and die easily after committing so many sins?
Clink, clink.
The sound of the locked door being opened reached Krista. She stood up.
“If you want to live, come to me! This is the safest place!”
She couldn’t bring herself to kill the innocent maids, even now.
The door opened, and a half-dead body fell through.
It was Mark, the guard who had been in charge of keeping her locked up.
“Aahhh!”
“Aaagh! Nooo!”
“Stop, you fools! Don’t go! Don’t go!” Krista shouted, but despite her pleas, the terrified maids rushed out of the room.
Mark, who had been shot several times and was covered in wounds, crawled toward Krista.
At least he had the presence of mind.
“P-Please… save me… Miss…”
He knew only Krista, the powerful superhuman, could save him.
“Who are you?” she asked.
There was no answer. He had already passed away.
Then…
“Stay inside! Don’t come out! We don’t know what state the target is in!” a voice shouted from outside.
“I’ll try to talk to them first! Absolutely do not come out!”
A strange man rushed in through the open door.
No, it was a woman. A knight with white hair tied high.
Krista froze.
She recognized her face.
That woman, it’s…
She had seen her before.
The knight who had served Alexander and Bania.
It was Kali.
The moment Krista realized the identity of the intruder, she was horrified.
“Kr… Krista… I’m here to take you…”
She opened her mouth, but her words didn’t register.
There was only one thought in her mind.
She had come for revenge.
Because I killed Alexander.
“I… I didn’t… no, no…”
No?
You killed him, didn’t you? She thought. He came to meet you, thinking he was trapped in your plan, and died.
“Ah, I understand!” Krista trembled and took a step back.
“I know, I know why you’re here! I’ll die for you! I will! But just give me some time! I can’t die like this! I… I…”
I’ll take one of you. I really was thinking of doing that. Please. I need to die with a reason to face Alexander.
For now, I needed to get out. From her, who wasn’t planning to let me go.
Just enough to overpower her.
That was all.
She thought, as she steeled herself.
<Storm’s Truth>
Ah.
That damn father.
However, for a moment, her mind went blank as her weakened body faltered.
<Mirror’s Eye – Dark Steps>
“Ah!”
“Miss!”
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared next to Kali.
…Bania?
A dream?
“Krista!”
A dream?
“It’s dangerous!” Kali blocked Bania, making herself invisible. But Bania pushed her aside and revealed herself to Krista with a reassuring smile.
“Alexander is alive!”
She spoke, as if magic had brought her back from the dead.
“Whoever told you otherwise, it was all a lie! He’s alive! He’s perfectly fine!”
It had to be a dream. It had to be.
It’s a dream.
“There’s so much he wants to see you.”
The words Krista had longed to hear pierced her ears, making everything else fade away.
“He’s waiting for you….”
Ah.
Even if it’s a dream, I’m happy.
Even if I die now, I want to die in my loving sister’s arms, hearing the words I’ve always wanted to hear.
“Krista.”
Bania, her face wet with tears, stepped closer.
“I’m so late. I’m sorry…”
Step by step.
“You shouldn’t have had to suffer here. I’m so sorry.”
She cried out.
“I’ve come to take you…”
With a broken voice, Bania finally reached Krista, holding her tightly.
“Let’s go home.”
Her voice, mixed with sobs, carried warmth and the rhythm of a heartbeat.
“Let’s go to our home… with me and Alexander…”
Bania didn’t disappear.
It didn’t feel like a dream.
“Let’s go together, Krista…”
