Chapter 8
“You’re afraid of ghosts?”
A mocking smile formed on the young master’s lips.
“Aren’t you scared, young master?”
“Of something like a ghost?”
Wow, he’s really brave.
I looked at him with admiration, and he scoffed.
“Anyway, so?”
“Oh, right! I used to be scared, but after meeting you, I’ve changed my mind.”
“Because of the food, I assume.”
“Hehe… that too, but even though I was rude and you got angry, you didn’t use violence.”
Of course, I couldn’t deny that the delicious food played a big part.
“The nobles I met before were all scary—except for Priscilla. She’s the lord’s daughter I mentioned earlier. But even she never ate with me.”
That was only natural. This world had a strict class system.
A noble and a servant eating together was completely unheard of.
But the young master was different.
I carefully chose my words.
“You treated me like… a normal person. Like a human. You’re the first one to do that. So if you allow it, I’d like to stay here for a long time.”
He was silent for a moment, then replied sharply.
“So in the end, you just want to stay because it’s comfortable for you.”
“W-well… I guess it does sound like that.”
I laughed awkwardly.
At that moment, his gaze shifted toward the window.
“It seems the delivery has arrived.”
“I’ll go get it. Please keep eating.”
As I headed toward the first floor, I suddenly turned back.
“How did he know the delivery arrived? There wasn’t even a notification…”
Maybe there was some kind of signal I didn’t know about?
When I reached the first floor, I opened the door leading to the backyard.
The food had been delivered there earlier in a basket, so I expected the same again.
But instead—
There was a room that hadn’t been there before.
“W-what is this?”
Startled, I looked around.
An entirely new space had appeared.
“Magic!”
I was amazed.
A world where you could create space out of nothing!
Inside, everything from the urgent request was neatly displayed.
The maid uniforms I had ordered in multiple sizes were hanging on a luxurious golden rack.
On nearby shelves were various shoes—some pointed, some rounded—and next to them, different kinds of women’s undergarments.
“I definitely didn’t order lace underwear like this…!”
They were incredibly revealing—thin lace that looked like it could barely cover anything.
The bottoms were just thin strings in a “T” shape.
“…Good thing the young master didn’t see this.”
At that moment, I noticed a letter placed on a shelf.
“Since we don’t know your preferences, we’ve sent a variety. Please leave any unwanted items in this room. This space will disappear at sunset.”
I couldn’t read it, but—
Thank you for the delivery!
I wish I could use magic too.
After ending up in this world in Liliata’s body, I had tried a few things to see if I had any special abilities—but nothing worked.
Standing in front of a full-length mirror, I examined myself.
Soft gray hair without any curls.
Light purple eyes mixed with gray.
A completely unfamiliar face stared back at me.
It kind of looks like my old face… but also not.
The different colors made the overall impression completely different.
Why are the colors so dull? I look like a ghost.
I frowned slightly.
Whatever. Let’s change clothes.
I threw off the blanket I had been wearing.
* * *
“So we can’t enter the mansion directly… but this should at least let us check the condition of the new servant.”
After submitting his report, Vice Commander Marcias of the Imperial Mage Corps left the commander’s office and instructed his subordinates to prepare the items to be sent to the mansion.
Then, he had an idea.
He decided to include a magical item with the delivery.
It was a kind of surveillance mirror that allowed him to observe someone from a distance.
Technically, it was an unauthorized action that required higher approval—but he believed it was necessary.
Just judging from the content of the urgent request, the servant who wrote it didn’t seem to be in a normal state.
A strange phenomenon that hadn’t been observed in years.
For future reference, he needed to confirm it clearly.
Besides, there was no mage in the empire who could match him in long-distance magic.
There was no way a serf-born servant would notice.
“She should have checked the items by now.”
Leaning back in his chair, he snapped his fingers toward the mirror on the wall.
The surface rippled like water—
Then the view of the other side appeared.
“Let’s see what condition the new servant is in—”
He froze.
A woman’s face suddenly filled the mirror.
Gray hair—not quite silver, but dull.
Pale skin without any sunburn, unusual for a serf.
Eyes of light purple mixed with gray.
She had a strange, eerie presence.
“I—I thought she was a ghost…”
He clutched his pounding chest.
“So the new servant is a woman?”
He didn’t know the details of the servant’s identity.
He would have known if he had seen the second urgent request, but he had been busy and only instructed his team to include the mirror.
I thought it would be a man again.
The woman in the mirror looked much younger than him, who was already in his late twenties.
They had been hiring mostly male servants to increase survival chances—but it seemed they were really struggling to find people this time.
“She doesn’t look like she’ll last a month… not even a week.”
Will she at least hold out until the next applicant arrives?
Just as he clicked his tongue, the woman moved away from the mirror.
“What is she wearing?”
It turned out he hadn’t been wrong to think she looked like a ghost.
She was wrapped entirely in a white blanket, with only her face sticking out.
“Why is she wrapped in a blanket?”
His brow furrowed deeply.
This might be another abnormal symptom.
Quickly grabbing a pen, he began writing in a notebook.
<616th Servant – Abnormal Symptoms>
- Covers entire body with a blanket, leaving only face exposed.
“Wait… isn’t that a sealing spell embroidered on that blanket?”
Something caught his eye, and he jumped to his feet.
The blanket was embroidered with golden thread—clearly a spell used to forcibly suppress magical power.
“There’s no way a servant’s room would have something like that.”
Then where did she get it…?
His expression turned serious.
At that moment, the woman threw off the blanket.
Underneath—
She was wearing only a bathrobe.
“WHAT?!”
Startled, Marcias stumbled back from the mirror, his face turning red.
“W-what is she doing walking around like that?!”
Flustered, he hesitated—
Then wondered if this, too, was another abnormal symptom.
Regaining composure, he quickly wrote again.
<616th Servant – Abnormal Symptoms>
- Covers entire body with a blanket, leaving only face exposed.
- Wearing only a bathrobe underneath.
“…What kind of curse has she fallen under?”
