Chapter -16

The Stranger’s Confession and Tears that Swear Eternity

In Sylvia’s hidden dwelling, after sharing their pasts and present feelings, the bond between the two grew stronger than ever before. When Sylvia was beside Akio, the sharpness she once carried seemed like a lie; her expression now always shone with a gentle light. Her natural gestures of affection toward him had increased, and Akio, in turn, cherished and accepted that warmth with all his heart. Between them, a love so deep had blossomed that words were no longer necessary to convey their hearts.

And yet, within Akio’s chest weighed the greatest secret he had yet to reveal to Sylvia. Now that she had laid bare her entire soul to him, the thought of keeping his own secret felt like a betrayal too cruel to bear. The fear that she might leave him upon learning the truth haunted him—but more than that, the idea of being dishonest with her was unbearable.

A few days later, Akio made up his mind and visited Sylvia’s dwelling once more. It was a quiet time—Sylvia had just finished tending to her herb garden and was pouring him a cup of her handmade herbal tea.
“Sylvia… no, Sylvia,” Akio said softly, calling her name with gentle resolve. “There’s something I must tell you.”
Sensing the weight behind his tone, Sylvia remained silent, waiting for him to continue.

Akio began to speak slowly, each word carefully chosen.
He told her that he was not a person of this world—that he had come from a completely different realm governed by different laws of nature, drawn here by what seemed like an accident. He confessed that he had no way of returning home, that in the beginning he had lived in despair and loneliness. But after meeting the children in the forest and protecting them, he found hope again—and later, meeting Sylvia made him long to live in this world, with her, forever.
It was the confession of his very soul.

Sylvia listened without moving a muscle. As his story went on, her deep-green eyes widened, filling with shock and confusion. When Akio finally finished speaking, large tears streamed down her pale cheeks without end.
“Wh…y…” Her trembling voice broke the silence of the room.
“Why… would you keep something so important… until now…?”

It was not reproach. Rather, it was a cry from the depths of her heart—realizing the loneliness, the fear, and the immense burden he had carried alone in this strange world, and feeling the weight of the courage and trust it took for him to finally confide in her. Her tears flowed like a floodgate breaking open.
“You… you’ve been bearing something so impossible all this time… and yet before me, before the children… you never showed a trace of it…”

She could speak no more. Sobbing, Sylvia buried her face in Akio’s chest. Her tears were filled with empathy for his solitude, with fear that one day he might vanish back to his own world, and above all, with gratitude that he trusted her enough to bare everything to her.

Akio held her fragile body gently, yet firmly, as if cradling something precious.
“I’m sorry, Sylvia. I may have frightened you. But I couldn’t speak of the future with you while still hiding this truth.”
At his words, Sylvia clung to him even tighter.

How much time passed, neither of them knew. When Sylvia finally calmed a little, she lifted her tear-streaked face and looked straight into Akio’s eyes. Her gaze was clear as the forest after the rain—filled with resolve.
“Akio…” she said, her voice trembling but firm. “No matter what world you come from, it doesn’t matter to me. In fact… I’m glad—truly glad—that you trusted me enough to share such a heavy truth. Just as you believe in me, I believe in you with all my heart.”

Sylvia reached out, gently cupping his cheek with her hand.
“Let me share even a little of the burden you carry. And from now on—no matter where you are, or what you do—my soul will be with you, always. I will live with you, and grow old with you here in this forest. That is now my only, and greatest wish.”

It was a vow of eternal love—from an elf who lived an unending span of time.
Akio listened to every word, etching them into his heart. Overcome by tenderness, he could no longer restrain himself—he pressed his lips softly against hers, still wet with tears. It was a kiss that melted away all fear and loneliness—deep, gentle, and true.

The confession of truth had shattered the final wall between them, elevating their bond into something no force in any world could ever break—an “eternity” sealed by love.

Many uncertainties still awaited them, but with trust and love in their hearts, there was nothing they could not overcome. The strong summer sunlight streamed through the trees, shining brightly upon the two who were now bound forever—and upon the small family they both so dearly cherished, illuminating their future with warmth and strength.

By chance, he saved five children fleeing from the ravages of war.
"Could I really abandon these kids?"

Thus began his slow life in another world, starting from zero.

He builds roofs from plants, makes stoves from stones, and bakes pottery. Over time, a herbalist elf, a beast-girl, and former princesses with troubled pasts join him, expanding Akio’s life into what could almost be called a “town.”
