Chapter 66 …
I realized immediately.
That wasn’t a smile.
It was a warning that he was about to beat someone to a pulp!
If Rishian turned Raul into dough, it would definitely feel satisfying…
‘But there’s no need for that anymore.’
I grabbed his arm and shook my head firmly.
“It’s okay. I already hit him once.”
“That wasn’t hitting. It was just Muriel’s delicate hand brushing past.”
“I—I hit him as hard as I could, you know…?!”
Raul stared at the two of us bickering with strange eyes.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Michelle was staring intently at Camilla with a surprised expression for some reason.
Could they possibly know each other?
‘But if that were the case….’
Camilla had no expression at all.
Then Michelle’s voice cut through the silence.
“Camilla, I heard you’re with the Veratis Guild….”
Tilting her head to one side, Camilla replied indifferently,
“That’s right. Long time no see… sister.”
‘…Sister?!’
My eyes went wide in shock.
There was no way the two of them were actually sisters.
After all, Camilla was an owl-beastkin, while Michelle was clearly human.
A beastkin and a human couldn’t possibly be blood-related sisters.
Then what exactly was their relationship…?
“The Veratis guild master… assigned you to this escort mission?”
“Yeees, I’m currently escorting Lady Muriel—”
Unlike Michelle, whose eyes were wavering dangerously, Camilla looked completely relaxed.
She idly twirled her snow-white twin tails around her finger, almost looking bored.
Michelle stared at her for a long moment, then bit her lip and spoke in a clearly disparaging tone.
“With that level of skill, you still became nothing more than a mere adventurer…. Do you even know who you’re escorting right now? You’re disgracing our late master’s name.”
At that moment, Camilla’s easygoing face turned cold.
“Gasp….”
I was so shocked my breath caught.
It was the first time I’d ever seen that expression on her usually dreamy face.
Camilla rolled her eyes once, then grabbed the shield and axe strapped to her back.
Then she muttered chillingly,
“Have you lost your mind…? Hasn’t your illness healed yet, Michelle? Maybe I should cut off your limbs so you’ll learn your place….”
The next moment, Camilla lunged at Michelle and swung her axe in a wide arc.
Michelle barely dodged, but Camilla’s ferocious attacks continued without end.
‘Th-this is crazy, what just happened? Should I stop them?’
Even to my untrained eyes, Michelle was being completely overwhelmed.
Camilla looked so enraged she couldn’t see anything else.
‘What if Camilla really cuts off Michelle’s limbs at this rate?!’
Unlike my panic, Rishian beside me remained perfectly calm.
“Let those two fight it out. We should proceed with the important discussion first.”
“You’re not going to stop them?!”
“They won’t listen even if we do. That owl-beastkin has lost it.”
“B-but…!”
“Hurry, Muriel. Let’s finish this quickly.”
I fidgeted anxiously.
Rishian was right, but…
It didn’t seem like Camilla would listen to me anyway…
Letting out a deep sigh, I pulled out the divorce papers from my inventory.
‘What a complete mess of a situation!’
I really was experiencing everything imaginable.
Maybe it was because most members of the Veratis Guild were crazy… Camilla included.
‘Scary….’
Anyway, I thrust the divorce papers toward Raul.
Raul, who still looked slightly dazed, glanced at the document in my hand and frowned faintly.
“What is this?”
“Can’t you tell by looking? It says it right here. Di-vorce pa-pers.”
As I enunciated each syllable clearly, Raul glared at me in disbelief and snatched the papers.
“…….”
As he silently scanned the document, confusion gradually filled his face.
With my arms crossed, I spoke calmly.
“I’ve already filled out everything else, so you just need to sign. As for the division of property, I’m not taking a single coin, so you should be satisfied, right?”
“…Are you serious? You want a divorce from me?”
“Does this look like a performance to you? All of this?”
My farm, my house, and my people.
I spread my arms wide as if indicating everything.
Only then did a different light flicker in Raul’s eyes.
As if some realization—or suspicion—had dawned on him.
His gaze, which had been fixed on me, slowly slid toward Rishian.
“…….”
After a moment of silence, he let out a low scoff.
“Ah, now I understand.”
…He definitely misunderstood something dirty.
Sure enough, shocking nonsense came out of Raul’s mouth.
“I was wondering why you were farming in a place like this… So you’ve been fooling around with your lover. Looks like you’ve fallen hard for that pretty boy. Considering you’ve finally decided to divorce me, whom you used to cling to so desperately.”
“Ha….”
An exasperated sigh escaped me.
Just as I was about to lose patience and swing my fist again—
THUD!!
“…!”
A much louder, heavier sound than when I hit him split the air.
‘What the— it sounded like someone punched him with steel gauntlets.’
The owner of that terrifying destructive force was, of course, Rishian.
Raul, struck by his merciless strength, staggered in place before collapsing to the ground.
The right cheek he clutched with one hand quickly turned bright red.
‘That really looks like it hurts….’
That was definitely going to bruise badly. His face would look quite a sight for a while.
“For someone with a working mouth, you sure spout nonsense well. If it weren’t for Muriel, you’d have been a corpse long ago.”
Rishian muttered coldly as he looked down at Raul.
The overwhelming pressure radiating from him made my skin prickle.
Perhaps realizing Rishian was no ordinary person, Raul frowned slightly, his expression turning serious.
In a guarded voice, he asked,
“Who are you?”
“You don’t need to know who I am. You’d better worry about your subordinate instead.”
A deeper crease formed between Raul’s brows.
Right then—
Thud.
Someone collapsed to the ground.
Both Raul and I turned toward the sound.
And then we saw a shocking sight.
Camilla was raising her axe to bring it down on Michelle’s shoulder—while Michelle knelt on the ground!
“AAH! Stop, Camilla! Rishian, stop her!”
Rishian moved instantly at my command.
In the nick of time, his hand caught the axe handle.
The chilling blade had been just moments away from Michelle’s right shoulder.
With practiced ease, Rishian subdued Camilla and seized the axe.
Thump. Camilla’s shield hit the ground with a heavy sound.
Even after being disarmed, Camilla continued glaring at Michelle with murderous eyes.
‘I—I just lost ten years off my life.’
We had been seconds away from witnessing a horrifying scene of someone’s arm being chopped off.
Michelle, seemingly having no intention of attacking Camilla, simply sat still with her sword dropped on the ground.
I hurried over, gathering the divorce papers Raul had dropped, clutching them to my chest.
Since Camilla might go berserk again at any moment, calming her down was the priority.
Camilla was on her knees, restrained by Rishian.
I crouched in front of her and asked,
“Camilla! Can you hear me?”
“…Yes.”
Thankfully, she was still responsive.
I gently but firmly reprimanded her, trying to bring back her reason.
“Camilla, I don’t know what history you two have, but you can’t actually try to spill blood. If something like this happens, it’ll affect Dante and the other guild members too. Let’s go home first and talk it out calmly, okay?”
“…….”
Her eyes were still frightening, but Camilla nodded in acknowledgment.
After extracting a promise that she wouldn’t rampage again, I glanced sideways at Rishian.
Only then did he release his grip on her.
Camilla stood up, brushing the dirt off her clothes.
And Michelle…
Raul had approached at some point and was now helping her up.
‘This is bad, she’s completely covered in wounds.’
She’d avoided losing an arm, but Michelle looked utterly battered.
Cuts from the axe blade and blunt injuries from the shield covered her body.
‘If she couldn’t win, why provoke Camilla in the first place…?’
The question crossed my mind briefly, but treating the injured person came first.
Letting out a tired sigh, I pressed my forehead and spoke irritably,
“Let’s go inside and continue talking. We need to treat Sir Michelle’s injuries.”
“…….”
Raul’s expression as he looked at me turned complicated—
As if he had never expected me to show kindness.
