The Matchmaker (Yuelao) smiled slyly. “So, how is it? Does it feel alright in your hands?”
Su Jin slowly savored it and nodded in approval. “It’s not bad… Wait a minute—trying to change the subject?”
Before she could finish, Jiang Heng pushed open the door and walked in, holding an enamel cup in his hand.
Su Jin looked at the Matchmaker floating in midair; he was still hovering there.
Jiang Heng seemed not to notice him at all and walked straight past.
Su Jin thought to herself that perhaps only she could see the Matchmaker.
Jiang Heng’s expression was calm, but inside, his emotions churned like waves.
He set down the cup. “I’ll take you outside to wash up.”
“Okay.”
Su Jin followed him.
On one side of the house, Jiang Heng scooped out a ladle of water with a gourd dipper for her and handed her the toothpaste. Su Jin glanced at it and realized it was a domestic brand toothpaste from the 1970s.
However, when she noticed some impurities floating in the water, her eyes narrowed, and her brow furrowed in obvious disgust.
At twenty-six, Su Jin had never seen water this dirty—small green algae floating on the surface and yellow mud settled at the bottom.
She didn’t even have to taste it to smell the muddy, fishy stench!
And now she was expected to brush her teeth with it—this was almost the ultimate challenge for her.
Jiang Heng noticed her several attempts to touch her lips but stopping each time. Su Jin stole a glance at the tall man standing beside her, preparing to take a deep breath and gulp the water.
But Jiang Heng had already noticed from the corner of his eye how displeased her expression was.
He took the ladle and poured the water back into the container.
Su Jin stood there, toothbrush in hand, dumbfounded.
“Give me the toothbrush. You go back to your room first,” Jiang Heng said.
“Oh.”
Su Jin didn’t know what to say. After all, her previous life had been hundreds of times better than the average person’s. Even after her parents passed away, they left behind plenty of cash and property—and even more in other assets.
To suddenly have to drink water from a dug-up well to brush her teeth… she really couldn’t do it.
“Slap!”
Su Jin slammed the door.
She pointed at the Matchmaker. “Hurry up! Conjure it quickly!”
The Matchmaker feigned ignorance. “I’m following your conditions, aren’t I? Weren’t you quite satisfied with it last night?”
Last night, Su Jin had thought it was just a dream, so she hadn’t thought too much about it.
But now, having gone from wealthy to penniless, who could accept that?
“Then why am I stuck in such a shabby place?”
“Listen carefully! It’s because your standards were too high! For your era, I couldn’t find a perfect match. I spent several sleepless nights and finally found one that meets your requirements!
First, Jiang Heng isn’t just tall—he’s 188 cm—and has a face that could turn heads, which fits your aesthetic perfectly.
He’s never been married, nor has he ever dated. No matter how many women approached him, he rejected them all. Completely aligns with your standards for a man’s character. I’ve analyzed his personality—he’s responsible and a husband who would spoil his wife!
Also, I think he’s promising; there’s a bright financial future ahead for him.
Jiang Heng completely meets your requirements. That’s why I sent you to 1975.”
“Really? Can’t you just send me back?”
The Matchmaker tapped his two index fingers together. “There’s no way. I’ve already tied your red threads of fate.”
“So you sent me straight to 1975?”
“Yes, yes—and I even included doorstep delivery service!”
“Then why did I marry him the moment I arrived?”
“That, of course, is determined by your fate.”
Su Jin rolled up her sleeves, clenched her fists, and shook them in front of the Matchmaker. “You really are unscrupulous when it comes to your performance targets!”
For the sake of a five-star review, Su Jin had already seen through his true nature.
The Matchmaker shrank back fearfully. “You can’t hit me! I just wanted to complete my performance—what’s wrong with that?”
He furrowed his brows innocently.
“So you mean I have to survive in this environment by myself?”
