Chapter 14…Â
Letâs Go to the Royal Library!
A few days after the party, an unsigned letter arrived addressed to me.
It said they would be waiting at the royal palace in three daysâ time in the morning, so Iâd been practicing creating a duplicate of myself for the occasion.
âăDuplicate Copyăâ
With a faint light, a person identical to me appeared.
I increased the duplicateâs magic power while suppressing my own.
If I didnât, Sasha and the others would notice that I had created a duplicate.
âAlright, done.
The duplicate was complete.
An exact copy of meâwhite hair, blue eyes, and quiet as a dollâstood before me.
âYep. Perfect.
It took some time to make this duplicate.
There were mainly two problems I had to solve during the process.
The first was speech.
I may be a quiet person, but when spoken to, I still respond properly.
Since Sasha often talks to me, I needed a way to handle that.
The second was infusing it with magic power.
Almost all living creatures, including humans, carry at least a trace of magic.
If the duplicate had none, it would immediately seem suspicious.
Not only that, people can locate others through their magic signaturesâso any discrepancy would be noticed right away.
That part was the hardest. It was troublesome to disguise while making the duplicate, since having two identical magic signatures could give me away.
So I experimented carefully, paying close attention to time and place.
Still, since it was for today, I didnât really mind the effort.
Alright, time to head to the royal palace.
âYuri, until I come back, youâll be meâYuliana.â
By the way, I decided to name the duplicate Yuri.
âUnderstood.â
Yuriâs voice was exactly like mine.
Well, it is technically me.
âIf anything happens, let me know.â
âUnderstood.â
âThen Iâll be going. Take care of things.â
âUnderstood. Have a safe trip.â
âIâm off.â
âAlright! Letâs go to the Royal Library!
Yuri was obedient to every command.
I could leave everything to her without worry.
I began chanting in my mind.
âăInvisibilityăăConcealmentăăColor ChangeăăFlightă
I changed my hair color, erased my form, and leapt out the window into the sky.
It felt amazing.
The sky was blue, the green meadows spread out below.
The sunlight was warm, the wind refreshing.
A perfect day for flying.
I love reading more than anything, but since being reborn in this world and gaining the ability to use magic, Iâve come to love the feeling of becoming one with the wind.
Itâs a joy only magic can provide.
In my previous life, I couldnât even run, let alone flyâmy body had been too frail.
So Iâm truly glad I was reborn.
Itâs so fun.
It makes me happy to be alive.
âBut at this speed, I might be late.
It normally takes about two hours by carriage to reach the royal palace from the Lindoll Ducal Estate.
With ăFlightă, thereâs nothing to obstruct me, so I can go straight thereâbut my speed still isnât very fast.
I thought, I really need to practice more, and invoked more spells.
âăSpeed BoostăăGaleăăAssimilationă
I increased my speed, generated wind, and imagined myself merging with it.
Activating seven spells at once was a bit tough.
But missing out on the Royal Library was not an option.
âOkay, now hereâs a quiz for you.
In my previous world, people who could cast multiple spells simultaneously without chanting were basically on the strongest route.
Knowing that, I deliberately avoided becoming that kind of overpowered character.
But if anyone thinks Iâve already stepped firmly onto that strongest route, raise your hand in your mind.
âŠYes, thatâs right.
Iâve quietlyâno, completelyâwaded straight into the âstrongest route.â
âIt wasnât my intention, though.
Apparently, in this world there are books that can only be read if you pour a certain amount of magic power into them.
And where are those books kept?
The Royal Library!
When I learned that, I thought I needed to train even harder.
So I spent both days and nights repeating magic compression exercises and practicing simultaneous spell activationâ
âŠand before I knew it, Iâd sunk fully into the strongest route.
Well, itâs not like being strong is a bad thing.
Besides, itâll help me someday when I enterâor rather, am forced to enterâthat academy and face their practical exams.
If it means avoiding remedial classes, then, yeah⊠fair enough.
So, thatâs how I ended up (though Iâd rather not admit it) on the strongest route.
âBut Iâm hiding it well, so itâs fine, itâs fine.
Thanks to magic compression, no one around me suspects a thing.
I can act like an ordinary girl just fine.
If my life were ever truly in danger, Iâd use my powerâbut until then, Iâll quietly live as a background character.
âŠI really hope Iâm not one of the main characters.
âAh, I can see it now.
Just as the appointed time approached, the grand white palace came into view before my eyes.
