Part 2 Chapter 76
Ryan walked forward without hesitation—then suddenly stopped.
The Duke stepped back.
On either side of him, his sons Elliot and David also stumbled backward in fear.
Ironically, it wasn’t the Duke’s powerful children who stood in front to protect him, but the ordinary guards.
“This… is that all?” Ryan muttered bitterly.
“Father, stop using your ability.”
The Duke looked powerless. It was too easy.
But Ryan didn’t feel happy about it.
“You should fight back a little. What am I supposed to do if you just surrender the moment you see me…?”
He whispered weakly, then suddenly exploded in anger.
“Damn it!!! I rotted in prison for 12 years! Then spent 8 more years crawling through hell for revenge! I gave my entire life for this!!!”
Silence.
“Come on! Don’t just sit there waiting to die like a coward! Fight back!”
The Duke stayed still. His calm only fueled Ryan’s rage.
He sighed, then barked at the mercenaries.
One handed him a gun.
Click.
Ryan cocked it, then pointed toward the guards.
“If you don’t want to die, run.”
The guards hesitated but refused to move.
Ryan turned to the Duke.
“Tell them to leave.”
The Duke obeyed immediately.
“Go.”
Elliot was horrified.
“Father, what are you doing?!”
But the guards fled. The ability-users were left with no shield.
At that moment, a sword was drawn.
It was Alexander Bassenberg, the family’s knight commander—one of the few who knew how to fight with a blade.
Ryan only sighed, unimpressed, then fixed his gaze on Elliot.
“You. Kneel.”
“What?!” Elliot shouted.
“Kneel.”
The Duke repeated the order. Elliot froze, then with a bitter expression, dropped to his knees.
Ryan pressed the gun to his head.
“Ryan!”
A sharp female voice cried out.
It was Diana, hiding behind Alexander.
“Shoot Father! Kill him!” she screamed, pointing at the Duke.
Ryan stared at his sister for a moment, then smirked.
“What a touching family.”
Diana’s face turned red with shame.
“The one I wanted to kill most was Father. But I let him live all this time—because he was the leash on you monsters.”
Ryan gestured toward Elliot with the gun.
The Duke was the only one who could control ability-users. If he died, chaos would spread everywhere.
“I let him live so there wouldn’t be pointless deaths. Just like I let those ordinary guards escape earlier.”
Ryan sneered at Diana.
“You think killing him now will save you? Don’t be stupid.”
Then he grew cold.
“But actually… that would be easier for me. Still, if it ends that quickly, then what was the point of my 20 years of suffering?”
His smile was merciless.
“From now on, I’ll kill you one by one.”
Click.
“Watch carefully, Father. Watch your children’s heads explode.”
Elliot screamed in panic.
“Father! Please save me!”
The Duke shook, pale, but didn’t move.
Ryan mocked him.
“How many children need to die before you’ll lift your ability, Father?”
He spun the gun and pressed it deeper into Elliot’s head.
“Too bad, Elliot. Your last memory will be of your own father watching you die.”
The siblings cried and begged.
Finally, the Duke began to move—slowly, step by step—away from his children.
Ryan chuckled. He understood perfectly.
The Duke knew Ryan’s ability.
Once the Duke was far enough—
The screams of the ability-users cut off.
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
All of them collapsed lifelessly to the floor.
Ryan dropped the gun with a clang and walked toward the only one left—the Duke.
“Did you reactivate your power?”
“Ryan…” the Duke stammered.
Ryan sneered.
“No, you didn’t. You just wanted to die quickly and painlessly.”
He flicked his fingers.
The Duke’s body fell to the ground.
“Goodbye. Not even hell will welcome you.”
Ryan looked down at his father’s corpse, then turned away.
Nika noticed—Ryan’s expression wasn’t relieved, even after achieving his revenge.
It was empty. Hollow.
But there was no time to think. Nika still had to protect Bania.
Ryan began inspecting the corpses. He kicked one with red hair.
“Bring this one to Revan. Alexander can’t die like this.”
Alexander’s resurrection ability meant his body had to be destroyed completely. Ryan knew that.
But then—
“Wait. Damn it!!!” Ryan shouted.
“One’s missing!!!”
The mercenaries checked with him.
“The princess? Princess Bania’s body isn’t here!”
Ryan panicked.
“She’s the strongest one! If she’s free, this whole country is doomed!”
Nika’s heart pounded. He knew exactly where Bania was—but if Ryan found her first, she’d be killed for good.
Ryan screamed.
“Find her! Block every exit! Search everywhere!”
Then he rushed off with his men, leaving Nika alone in the hall.
This was his chance.
Nika quickly searched the Duke’s body, found the basement key, and ran.
But just as he turned the corner—
Ryan was standing there, smiling.
His presence was terrifying.
Step.
Step.
Step.
“You know…” Ryan leaned close, grinning.
“I think I forgot to ask you something.”
