CHAPTER 11
After a short while, a fork in the road appeared in the distance, and Grace gave an order.
“Jessie, let everyone know that I’ve made my move.”
“Yes, my lady.”
“Don’t get hurt. Once it’s done, meet us in Richmond right away.”
Her freckled nose twitched.
“Don’t worry. I’ll finish things even faster than you, and be back in no time.”
When Grace gave her a nod of trust, Jessie jumped out of the carriage.
“W-Wait?!”
Joseph raised his voice in surprise, but Jessie was already waving her right hand over her head and quickly disappearing into the distance. Watching her retreating figure, Grace spoke to the two men.
“Jessie will rejoin us once she’s completed her task.”
Even if it was only the start of the mountainous terrain, Jessie moved through the rugged peaks like the wind, vanishing from sight in no time. It was far beyond the movement of a mere maid. She had clearly been properly trained.
‘Just as His Highness has been waiting for the right time, so have I.’
Walter turned to look at Grace. Her eyes, the color of green grapes, appeared harmless no matter how many times he looked into them—but the plan she recited with that gentle face was both precise and bold.
Besides, they shared a common enemy. Walter had no choice but to side with Grace.
‘A sword isn’t always something you can see.’
Grace Taylor and a sword.
‘A blade too sharp will only cut the hand that wields it.’
At that moment, as the old knight’s advice flashed through his mind, Walter felt a soft sensation graze his lips. He turned forward and rubbed his lips with the back of his hand.
The wind blowing through the forest carried a faint metallic scent. Narrowing his eyes slightly, Walter sharpened his focus.
In the distance, the Richmond Knights waiting for him came into view.
