Chapter 3: Fu Nanzhou is Jiang Yi’s real maternal uncle
Fu Nanzhou’s expression darkened. “No!”
Lu Xi’s face fell. “But we got married by mistake…”
“You got it wrong. I didn’t. I proposed the marriage. I don’t intend to divorce. Divorce affects my market value. I’m already thirty and it’s not easy to find a partner. You’re young and beautiful—I know how to be content.”
This was clearly nonsense.
Not to mention his identity as the head of the Fu family, just Fu Nanzhou’s face alone could attract countless admirers. How could he possibly lack young and beautiful women throwing themselves at him?
Lu Xi bit her lip. What should she do now?
She regretted it so much.
From what he said, it sounded like he wasn’t easy to find a partner… did he maybe have some kind of illness?
“This is my address. Move in directly. I’ll send you the password later. I’m in a hurry and can’t take you there. Take a taxi yourself. Use the card inside for expenses. Buy whatever you need.”
Fu Nanzhou was indeed in a rush. After speaking, he handed her a bank card and quickly got into the car and left.
Lu Xi stood frozen on the spot. A credit card?
Wasn’t he afraid she would max it out?
Lu Xi squatted down in frustration, puffing her cheeks. This was insane.
Not only did she recognize the wrong person, she even ended up in a flash marriage with an older man.
If she told her sister, her sister would probably be furious.
Lu Xi took a photo of the marriage certificate and sent it to her best friend Jiang Yi, along with a crying emoji.
Jiang Yi immediately called her.
“Lu Xi, are you crazy?! Do you know who that man is? That’s Fu Nanzhou—my real maternal uncle!”
“Damn it, I kindly introduced you to someone, and you went and became my uncle’s wife?! Have you got no humanity?!”
“Lu Xi, you’re done! You’re absolutely done! Your good days are over!”
Lu Xi pouted. “Sorry… I didn’t mean to mistake him. He had a pen clipped to his chest at the time.”
Jiang Yi sighed helplessly. “My uncle is that old, and you didn’t notice?”
Lu Xi’s voice got even softer. “I did notice… but he’s too handsome. I only looked at his face and ignored his age.”
“Xi Xi, do you know what marrying my uncle means?”
Lu Xi was confused. “What does it mean?”
“It means you’ll be controlled tightly for the rest of your life! And also—you’re a substitute, sister! My uncle had a girlfriend he dated for six years before. You look very similar to her, understand?”
Lu Xi froze, then suddenly understood.
“No wonder he agreed to marry me the first time we met…”
“Yi Yi, can you please talk to your uncle and ask him to divorce me?”
Jiang Yi immediately panicked. “Please spare me. If I dare interfere in his business, my uncle would beat me to death! You’re on your own.”
And then she hung up.
Lu Xi: “……”
What an unloyal friend.
Now what should she do?
At the same time
Lu Xi didn’t have much belongings. After graduation, she had sold most of what she could. Most of her clothes and items were still at her sister’s house.
Because of what happened earlier, she didn’t dare go back alone.
Fortunately, her sister’s mother-in-law Li Qian had gone to the house to pick up toys for Guoguo, and couldn’t find them, so she called Lu Xi.
When Lu Xi returned home, Li Qian was already sitting on the sofa cracking sunflower seeds. The shells were scattered everywhere, not even fully in the trash bin.
Seeing her, Li Qian said, “Xi Xi, where did you run off to? You don’t even clean the house. I’m busy, I can’t clean it for you.”
Lu Xi thought: You have time to eat sunflower seeds, though.
But she still politely replied, “Auntie, I went out for something.”
Li Qian curled her lips. “You still don’t have a job, what could you possibly be doing?”
Lu Xi frowned slightly. “Auntie, I’ll be joining the Fu Group next week.”
Li Qian froze. “Fu Group? Did our Nan Nan get you in there?”
“Xi Xi, not to be harsh, but you and your sister really struck gold marrying into our family. Our Nan Nan treats you sisters very well.”
“But Xi Xi, you’re not young anymore. You can’t just keep staying at home relying on us, can you?”
Lu Xi bit her lip. “Auntie, I’ve been tutoring since university. I contribute twenty thousand a year to the family.”
Li Qian sneered. “What can twenty thousand do?”
“Alright, forget that. I have a nephew, forty-two this year, recently divorced. He has three children with him and is looking for a new wife.”
“He’s a bit ugly, but he has money. The family can afford a house worth over a million. I was thinking of introducing him to you. He’s willing to pay a 660,000 bride price.”
“This house your brother-in-law lives in is too small. I want to help him change to a bigger one. With the bride price, plus what we add, we can buy him a bigger three-bedroom apartment.”
Lu Xi suppressed her anger. “So you plan to use the bride price to buy a house?”
Li Qian glared. “Housing prices are dropping. Selling it would be a loss. Just take a loan.”
Lu Xi asked again, “Whose name will the loan be under? My sister’s or brother-in-law’s?”
Li Qian grabbed more sunflower seeds. “Your brother-in-law can’t. It would be a second home and tax would be high. Your sister has no provident fund and unstable job.”
“I’m a teacher. It’ll go under my name. That way we save a lot. Your sister can just pay me monthly afterward. Everyone’s happy.”
Lu Xi finally understood.
So this was empty-handed profiteering.
“Auntie, I understand.”
Li Qian’s face lit up. “So you agree?”
Lu Xi shook her head. “No, because I’m already married.”
Li Qian immediately stood up in rage, pointing at her and shouting:
“You ungrateful thing! Are you lying to me?!”
“You just graduated, and you’re already married?!”
“You think I wanted to introduce someone to you? My nephew is rich! If you weren’t my daughter-in-law’s sister, I wouldn’t give you such a good deal!”
“I’ll talk to your sister! I don’t need to ask you!”
“You ungrateful brat! Do you think I care about your bride price?!”
She stormed out angrily, taking the child’s toy with her.
Lu Xi’s expression was equally unpleasant.
Li Qian had always come to the house acting nice in front of her sister, but behind her back she constantly belittled Lu Xi.
She lived there, yes—but her sister earned most of the money. Lu Xi had paid her own tuition since university, lived on campus, and only came home during holidays.
This year she had just graduated and stayed for a month—and now Li Qian had targeted her.
Lu Xi quickly packed her things, feeling that if she delayed even a moment, she might really be sold off.
Just as she finished packing and dragged her suitcase out, her sister called.
“Xi Xi, what happened with my mother-in-law?”
Sitting on her suitcase, Lu Xi hesitated, then told the truth.
“Sis… your mother-in-law insisted on introducing me to her nephew. He’s forty-two and has three kids. I didn’t agree, so she got angry.”
Lu Yao sighed. “If you didn’t want it, just refuse. Why provoke her? She just came in and threw a teddy bear at Guoguo’s face. Luckily the eyes fell off—otherwise it could’ve hurt her.”
Lu Yao felt distressed for her daughter, and her tone carried a bit of blame.
