Chapter 9 Still Legal Husband and Wife
When Nan Xiao arrived, Xu Ruoxin was already seated by the window, waiting.
In the entertainment circle, Xu Ruoxin’s looks were considered average, but she carried a charm of her own—always styled with voluminous waves and red lips, exuding sultriness and femininity.
Nan Xiao sat across from her and said calmly, “Miss Xu, please speak.”
Earlier, Xu Ruoxin had mentioned on the phone that she wanted to talk about her and Xie Chengyu’s university days, which was why Nan Xiao came.
She knew this was no different from hurting herself, but she truly wanted to know about Xie Chengyu’s past.
Xu Ruoxin unlocked her phone, showing photos of her and Xie Chengyu. Both were in white shirts and sweatpants from their student days, looking more youthful and innocent than now.
“Miss Nan, I was with Chengyu back in university. At that time, Old Master Xie disapproved of my family background and forced us apart. But Chengyu didn’t want to break up with me, he nearly turned against his family because of it…”
“Although we eventually separated for some reasons, since then Chengyu never sought out another woman. All these years, he’s only been waiting for me. He’s truly devoted…”
Nan Xiao kept her head lowered, her expression hidden, but inside her heart was clenched so tightly it hurt.
“Miss Nan, don’t you want to comment?” Xu Ruoxin asked curiously.
Because of the mask, Xu Ruoxin couldn’t see any of Nan Xiao’s expressions—she wanted to know what Nan Xiao was feeling.
Nan Xiao lifted her head, her clear eyes unwavering.
“What is the meaning of you telling me all this?”
Xu Ruoxin’s lips curved, but her voice carried no warmth.
“Miss Nan, it must have been you who begged Old Master Xie to cancel the divorce application, right? Chengyu’s heart isn’t with you. Doing that is pointless.”
Nan Xiao froze slightly.
How did Xu Ruoxin know Old Master Xie had canceled the divorce application?
That didn’t matter. What mattered was that Xu Ruoxin was smearing her. Nan Xiao replied evenly, “Miss Xu, you’ve overthought it. I didn’t do that.”
Clearly disbelieving, Xu Ruoxin sneered, “It’s normal that you like Chengyu. After all, he’s such a charming man. But people should know their place.”
“You and Chengyu’s identities are completely mismatched. If you stay together, you’ll only become a resentful couple. Do you know how people have seen you these past three years? They all say you’re laughable and pitiful.”
“……”
Nan Xiao’s fingers trembled slightly.
She wanted to snap back with ‘I told you already it wasn’t me, are you deaf?’ but her lifelong upbringing wouldn’t allow her to say such words.
At that moment, a figure suddenly appeared, grabbing the coffee cup from the table and splashing it all over Xu Ruoxin’s head and face.
“Xu, are you deaf? She already said it wasn’t her, yet you keep running your mouth, spewing nonsense—are you deliberately trying to make her feel worse?”
“……”
“Yanyan?”
Nan Xiao shot up, staring in shock at the furious Lin Yan.
“What are you doing here?”
Still holding the dripping coffee cup, Lin Yan gave Xu Ruoxin a full once-over.
Xu Ruoxin’s hair was soaked, coffee sticking it to her face, leaving her looking utterly disheveled. She glared at Lin Yan, so angry her arms trembled.
Lin Yan gave her a dismissive glance, then turned away and said,
“I came here to meet a client about a contract. Just finished.”
With a bang, she set the coffee cup down on the table and looked back at Xu Ruoxin.
“Xu, get this straight—no matter what, those two are still legal husband and wife. And you, a mistress, flaunting yourself around—aren’t you ashamed?”
