Chapter – 62
An Jianqing watched the scene, her eyes flickering slightly.
It seemed Qiu Mengxi still had some scruples. She probably knew An Jianqing wouldn’t talk, which was why she had been so unrestrained in front of her.
Now that Ning Xuechu threatened her, she immediately revealed her timid side.
She was surprised. Ning Xuechu was usually obedient and cute, yet she could say such harsh words. The firmness she showed just now felt like she had become a different person.
“Sister…” Ning Xuechu turned around and called pitifully, her clear eyes filled with fearful tears. “Sister, she left.”
Her voice trembled slightly. If one looked carefully, her fingers were also shaking.
Warmth rose in An Jianqing’s heart, and a strange emotion flowed through it.
So Ning Xuechu was actually afraid — she only became brave for her sake.
Until now, no one had ever moved her like this.
The corners of An Jianqing’s lips curved slightly. She walked over and hugged Ning Xuechu, saying softly,
“Xuechu, thank you.”
“You’re welcome. You’ve always taken care of me, Sister. I also want to do my best to protect you.” Ning Xuechu smiled and satisfiedly wrapped her arms around the slender waist in her embrace.
Where An Jianqing couldn’t see, a triumphant smile appeared on her face.
She had impulsively said harsh words to Qiu Mengxi earlier. After saying them, she realized that didn’t match the delicate, pitiful persona she had always built in front of An Jianqing.
So she reacted quickly — pretending to be scared — and successfully fooled An Jianqing.
But that sentence “protect”… she said it too naturally. Even she herself didn’t know how much sincerity it contained.
Ning Xuechu’s eyes froze as she fell into confusion.
Smelling the faint fragrance so close to her, she thought again of the blurry figure in her dreams.
For a moment, Ning Xuechu wanted to hold the soft body in her arms forever.
Soon she came back to her senses, her eyes clear again.
“Xuechu, remember to lock your door tonight. If someone knocks, make sure to confirm who it is first,” An Jianqing said worriedly as she released her.
Ning Xuechu nodded obediently and thought for a moment.
“Sister, this is a high-class hotel. It should be safe, right?”
“In theory, yes. But accidents can still happen. When you’re away from home, it’s better to stay cautious,” An Jianqing replied.
“Okay, Sister.” Ning Xuechu listened obediently and entered her room.
Only after seeing her close the door did An Jianqing return to her own room.
Hearing the hallway fall silent, Du Rong’s door opened.
She glanced at An Jianqing’s room, then looked down at a brand-new room card in her hand.
After thinking for a moment, she closed her door.
Chapter 29 — Unexpected Heat
Ning Xuechu got up, washed, and put on makeup in front of the mirror.
She pressed her lips together, applied lipstick, and revealed a bright smile.
All the details had been checked yesterday. Today they only needed to finish the final procedures and sign the documents. If everything went smoothly, the task could be completed by afternoon.
But after it ended, they would inevitably have to go out drinking with the partner company to celebrate — which meant they’d probably return at night.
Their return flight was booked for tomorrow, likely considering the post-deal celebration.
After getting dressed, Ning Xuechu heard a knock at the door.
She opened it and saw hotel staff delivering breakfast. The door of An Jianqing’s neighboring room also opened.
Ning Xuechu happily greeted her.
“Sister, let’s eat breakfast together.”
“Alright, come to my room,” An Jianqing nodded gently with a smile.
Ning Xuechu’s eyes curved into crescents as she carried the breakfast over.
The hotel breakfast was plentiful — warm millet porridge, delicate pastries, and milk. The portions for two filled the small tea table completely.
They sat facing each other. As long as they lifted their heads, they could see each other’s faces.
Whenever their gazes met, Ning Xuechu would linger a little longer.
Today An Jianqing wasn’t wearing makeup. Her bare face made her smooth, fair skin even more obvious.
Sunlight streamed in from the window. A beam fell onto her soft hair, coating it in a golden halo, giving her an unreal, ethereal beauty.
“Xuechu, don’t space out. Eat more,” An Jianqing said with a smile.
She tilted her head slightly, lips curving, sunlight illuminating her face — dazzling to look at.
It felt like something scratched Ning Xuechu’s heart. Her heartbeat raced wildly. She hurriedly lowered her head and drank some milk.
She drank too quickly and choked, coughing.
A slender pale hand reached over, elegant fingers holding a tissue.
Without thinking, Ning Xuechu grabbed that hand and used it to wipe her mouth.
She wiped slowly and carefully, occasionally brushing her lips against those fingers.
An Jianqing froze, clearly feeling the lingering softness on her fingertips.
She wanted to pull her hand away, but seeing Ning Xuechu’s innocent expression, she endured it.
“Sister, thank you.” Ning Xuechu smiled happily, eyes pure and clear.
“You’re welcome. Eat slowly, no rush,” An Jianqing said softly, lowering her head to hide the warmth rising on her face.
They were both Omegas — yet Ning Xuechu’s unintentional intimacy made her heartbeat quicken.
This wasn’t normal.
“Sister, why didn’t you put on makeup today?” Ning Xuechu asked after breakfast.
“My side is basically settled. I just need to go out tonight and have a couple of drinks with the client,” An Jianqing said, standing up to clean the table.
Hearing the words “drinking,” Ning Xuechu frowned slightly.
Business trips inevitably involved alcohol. An Jianqing’s tolerance was good, but she still couldn’t help worrying something might happen.
“Sister, we’ll probably drink with our partners tonight too. I wonder if it’s the same place,” Ning Xuechu asked with a smile.
An Jianqing shook her head.
“We’ll be in a private room in this hotel.”
