Ning Xuechu caught a glimpse of Du Rong’s expression from the corner of her eye. The earlier schadenfreude was gone — now there was a hint of sympathy.
She smiled and said,
“Manager Du, yours is 519? That’s a lucky number too.”
“Lucky? What’s lucky about it?” Du Rong asked coldly, gripping the room card tightly.
Ning Xuechu froze for a moment and timidly looked toward An Jianqing.
An Jianqing laughed lightly and said to Du Rong,
“If you want, you can take my room card.”
“Thank you, President An, but no need.” Du Rong shook her head.
Ning Xuechu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She was genuinely afraid they might exchange room cards.
Although she stood between them, 520 and 521 were the most perfect pair. If they swapped, it would feel like the destined luck would disappear.
“I want to exchange room cards with Secretary Ning,” Du Rong said, still indifferent.
Ning Xuechu hurriedly shook her head and hid behind An Jianqing, widening her eyes warily.
“This is my lucky number — I won’t change it.”
She shouldn’t have sympathized with Du Rong just now.
“Manager Du is joking with you,” An Jianqing said with a smile.
After that, Du Rong could no longer insist and followed along,
“519 is fine for me.”
With the rooms finally settled, the three walked toward the elevator.
An Jianqing and Ning Xuechu walked side by side in front, while Du Rong followed behind.
Watching them whisper to each other, Du Rong slightly narrowed her eyes.
There had always been rumors about the two in the company. No one confirmed them, and no one denied them — she didn’t believe them before.
But now, seeing the smile on An Jianqing’s face, she couldn’t help believing the rumors were true.
An Jianqing was always polite yet distant with others, never getting closer than a safe distance with any Omega.
But Ning Xuechu was an exception.
An Jianqing seemed completely unguarded around her. Even when their arms brushed while walking, she showed no reaction, as if she were already used to it.
Jealousy rose in Du Rong’s heart. She lowered her eyes and stopped looking at the pair ahead — as if not seeing them would make her feel better.
“Sister, the elevator’s here. We don’t even have to wait,” Ning Xuechu said happily.
An Jianqing nodded.
The elevator doors opened. A couple stepped out, their lips just parting.
Ning Xuechu froze — she hadn’t expected to see Qiu Mengxi here.
And the Omega beside her was clearly not her fiancée.
“Mengxi, what are you doing here?” An Jianqing spoke first, her gaze landing on the Omega before returning with disapproval to Qiu Mengxi.
She didn’t say it directly, but her eyes conveyed everything.
“Just here to have some fun.” Qiu Mengxi curled her lips into a smile, showing no nervousness at being caught.
She said “have some fun” very casually.
An Jianqing instantly understood. She knew Qiu Mengxi loved to play around — but that was when she was single. This time she was sneaking out behind her fiancée’s back.
The last bit of childhood fondness in An Jianqing shattered. She looked away and said nothing.
“Jianqing, I’ve got something to do. I’ll come find you later,” Qiu Mengxi blinked, wrapping an arm around the Omega’s waist as she left.
An Jianqing frowned.
Seeing this, Ning Xuechu softly asked,
“Sister, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” An Jianqing replied coldly.
She hadn’t expected to run into Qiu Mengxi here, let alone catch her in the act.
But it had nothing to do with her. She wouldn’t meddle and tell Qiu Mengxi’s fiancée.
If Qiu Mengxi dared to be this blatant, she clearly wasn’t afraid of being discovered.
Lost in thought, An Jianqing’s expression unconsciously turned cold.
Both of them thought she was in a bad mood and didn’t dare disturb her.
The three returned silently to their rooms.
Ning Xuechu lay on the bed, unable to stop replaying An Jianqing’s expression.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt An Jianqing still had feelings — otherwise why be angry seeing Qiu Mengxi flirting around?
The thought made Ning Xuechu increasingly upset. Even drinking a glass of water couldn’t calm the irritation in her heart.
She was about to go out to find An Jianqing when someone knocked on the door.
Opening it, she saw Du Rong and immediately put on a polite smile.
“Manager Du, what’s the matter?”
“We didn’t come here for vacation. Get ready and come visit clients with me,” Du Rong said coldly.
That snapped Ning Xuechu back to reality.
She’d almost forgotten the purpose of the trip because of Qiu Mengxi.
“I’ll inform President An,” Ning Xuechu said, turning toward An Jianqing’s room.
“No need. President An has already gone out,” Du Rong stopped her, glancing at the time.
“You have five minutes.”
Ning Xuechu stiffened, put aside her little thoughts, and focused on work.
After running around outside with Du Rong all day, it was already past ten at night when they returned to the hotel.
They’d been busy negotiating cooperation with clients. Though Ning Xuechu only handled small tasks like serving tea, she was still exhausted.
Not just physically — mentally too. And she hadn’t eaten dinner, so now she was tired and hungry.
After showering, she collapsed onto the bed, not wanting to move at all.
She closed her eyes to rest, but there was a knock at the door.
Ning Xuechu got up and opened it.
“Xuechu, I bought some late-night food. Want some?” An Jianqing stood outside, smiling.
Ning Xuechu’s spirits lifted instantly and she smiled brightly.
“Thank you, Sister. Come in.”
An Jianqing nodded, carrying the food inside and placing it on the table.
“Take a look — is it enough? Or is there anything else you want to eat?”
“It’s enough, it’s enough.” Ning Xuechu nodded repeatedly, eyes full of gratitude. After taking a quick bite, she asked,
“Sister, how did you know I didn’t eat dinner?”
An Jianqing laughed softly.
“When you’re out negotiating business, there’s always too much to handle. It’s rare to get a proper meal.”
