Chapter – 20….
“Xuechu, come to my room in a bit. I need your help with something,” An Jianqing said hesitantly, her delicate cheeks gradually flushing, as if shy and slightly embarrassed.
Ning Xuechu was momentarily stunned, then quickly realized and smiled, “Sister, what is it?”
“You’ll know when you come,” An Jianqing whispered, lowering her head to hide her reddened face.
Ning Xuechu felt puzzled and couldn’t stop guessing what it might be, leaving her with no appetite at all.
When she arrived at An Jianqing’s room, the first thing she noticed was that it was still filled with bright red roses.
Even after two days, the roses remained fresh, and their fragrance had not diminished in the slightest.
“Ah-choo…” Ning Xuechu sneezed, lightly rubbing her nose.
The scent of the roses was overwhelming, almost pungent, but An Jianqing showed no discomfort; instead, she seemed to enjoy it.
“Xuechu, which outfit do you think I should wear?” An Jianqing asked softly, pointing to a pile of clothes on the bed, her cheeks flushed.
Ning Xuechu’s throat tightened, and an inexplicable irritation arose in her heart.
On the spacious bed lay dozens of new outfits, all of the latest styles and all expensive.
It was clear that An Jianqing had put a lot of thought and effort into this birthday party.
Ning Xuechu looked down for a while, suppressing the anger in her heart, and then looked up with a smile. “Sister, you’re beautiful and your figure is perfect. No matter what you wear, you’ll look the most stunning Alpha.”
She subtly emphasized the word Alpha.
Hearing this, An Jianqing didn’t seem happy with the compliment. On the contrary, her previously sparkling eyes dimmed.
She lowered her head and remained silent for a moment, then let out a faint, melancholy smile. “Yes… I am an Alpha…”
The last words were almost a whisper, and even standing nearby, Ning Xuechu couldn’t catch them clearly.
The atmosphere in the room grew quiet; the previous cheerfulness vanished.
Seeing An Jianqing’s barely concealed sadness, Ning Xuechu felt an unusual thrill rise in her chest.
If she guessed correctly, An Jianqing had dressed up meticulously to surprise someone called Qiu Mengxi.
Ning Xuechu would never allow such a thing to happen.
“Sister, you should wear this white dress. It’s elegant and graceful, perfect for the birthday party,” Ning Xuechu said, picking up a white dress from the bed.
“All right.” An Jianqing smiled softly and took it, though her mood was noticeably lower than before.
Seeing this, Ning Xuechu smiled inwardly in satisfaction.
She consciously left the room, making sure to close the door behind her and give An Jianqing privacy.
After waiting outside for over ten minutes, An Jianqing came out wearing the white dress.
Ning Xuechu immediately grinned like a child who had just received candy and sweetly said, “Sister, I was right! This dress looks amazing on you—beautiful and pure, just like a fairy.”
“You really know how to flatter me,” An Jianqing chuckled. After a while, she nervously asked, “Do you really think so? Does it look too plain, not festive enough?”
“No, not at all,” Ning Xuechu shook her head vigorously, her voice firm.
Relieved, An Jianqing’s lips curved into a faint smile as she whispered, “I hope she likes it too.”
Though spoken softly, Ning Xuechu heard it clearly.
Her gaze turned cold, fingers clenching tightly as she controlled the surge of agitation and anger inside her.
After calming herself, Ning Xuechu still wanted to see what kind of charm that woman had to occupy An Jianqing’s thoughts.
The birthday party took place at a luxurious hotel at 2 p.m.
This time, An Jianqing only invited a few close friends.
Her circle of friends were not ordinary people—they were elite daughters from wealthy families, all with impressive appearances and A+ level pheromones.
Ning Xuechu, an ordinary Omega, felt out of place among them, like an ugly duckling among swans.
“Jianqing, who is this? Introduce us,” someone asked, casually leaning on the sofa with a glass of red wine.
Their gaze toward Ning Xuechu carried curiosity and scrutiny, with a trace of disdain in their eyes.
Before An Jianqing could answer, another quickly said, “I guess she’s Jianqing’s little lover.”
“Little lover? Then who’s the big lover?” someone else asked, intrigued, all eyes turning to the speaker.
“Of course…” The speaker dragged out the words, but when meeting An Jianqing’s slightly cold gaze, they stopped and said instead, “You’d better ask Jianqing yourself.”
“You’re just teasing, right? If Jianqing could tell us, I wouldn’t have to ask you,” another scoffed.
Despite the teasing, they all looked eagerly at An Jianqing, hoping for an answer.
“I’ll tell you her identity later,” An Jianqing said, not mentioning the “big lover” at all.
The others wisely stopped asking and began chatting with each other.
They were all friends and were very familiar with one another, with endless topics to talk about.
Ning Xuechu couldn’t fit in, nor did she want to. She quietly sat in a corner of the sofa, observing the elite daughters of high society.
After a careful look, she didn’t see the woman called Qiu Mengxi.
But she could hear the name mentioned by others.
“It’s already 2:30. Why hasn’t Miss Qiu arrived yet? Could she still be… in some love nest?” someone joked.
“Jianqing isn’t worried, why are you? She’s always late; being half an hour late is normal for her,” another replied, clearly used to it.
Hearing this, the group continued chatting and drinking.
