Chapter 10
“Tsk.”
Ria clicked her tongue at the fragment of memory she had just seen.
She didn’t know why Liarna’s memories kept flowing into her.
She was merely borrowing her body. She didn’t know if there was a reason, and even if there was, she had no intention of following it.
Whatever the memory hoped to convey—or whatever Liarna wanted her to do—Ria didn’t plan on taking any action.
The book had only recorded Liarna’s misdeeds, highlighting Freya’s actions as justified, without showing what kind of life Liarna had lived or what emotions she had felt. Yet Ria had never been particularly curious.
After all, a book is just a book.
But seeing things from Liarna’s perspective, witnessing her experiences firsthand, Ria felt as if she could understand Liarna’s emotions, whether she wanted to or not. She felt as if she were merging with them.
Liarna’s ways of expressing her feelings had been wrong, but Ria now understood the reasons behind her actions.
“Is she trying to make me hate the emperor, or is she asking me to take revenge on Freya on her behalf?”
It was impossible to tell.
She was just an ordinary reader.
From Liarna’s point of view, the resentment made sense.
Even though Liarna hated Freya, she never intended to kill her. It had just been a mistake.
A mistake so critical that it ultimately led to her own downfall.
To others, it might have seemed as if she were persecuting innocent people, but in truth, that wasn’t the case.
“It has nothing to do with me.”
Ria had no intention of letting things unfold exactly as in the original story, nor of fulfilling Liarna’s unfinished dreams.
Her goal was simply to survive and, if possible, return to her original world.
“Still… it’s annoying.”
Watching these memories, dealing with the current situation—both were frustrating.
“Though I suppose I should make a plan.”
The situation had changed so much from the original story that even if she wanted to use it as a reference, she couldn’t.
Still, it would be wise to at least make some kind of plan for what to do next.
If, someday, the emperor regained his memories, she would request his abdication.
If he were deposed, she could retreat to some remote valley, leaving behind dukedoms or titles.
She would search for a way to return to her original world.
And if she did return, she would forget everything that had happened here and resume her normal life.
The only problem was that she couldn’t know when the emperor would regain his memories—or how he would act once he did.
The most important point: she absolutely must not fall for him. She must not get entangled with Freya either.
Ria tightened her resolve once more.
