Chapter 07
Everyone’s smiles faded, faces full of surprise.
Zhou Yi paused, deliberately looking at her plain, clean hands, then smiled. “You really tried every excuse just to refuse me.”
Su Li knew no one would believe her.
She couldn’t very well drag Mo Xingyuan out for a walk.
“I wasn’t making things up just to refuse you,” Su Li said helplessly.
“Then have your husband come out and meet us,” Zhou Yi said, still smiling warmly.
Su Li bit her lip and explained, “He’s busy…”
“Su Li,” Zhou Yi interrupted, “I came all the way from Jing City to Nine Cities because I truly like you.”
He didn’t care about other people’s eyes; his sincerity and depth were obvious. “If you really are married, I wish you happiness. But if you lied just to reject me, I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“I hope you can give me—give us—each a chance,” Zhou Yi stepped closer. “I really like you. I want to be with you.”
People around them were touched.
They didn’t understand why Su Li was rejecting Zhou Yi, since he was perfect in every way.
So someone said, “Just give him a chance.”
Others, who had eaten the meal Zhou Yi had arranged and knew why he had organized it, also urged Su Li to give it a try.
At that moment, Su Li’s phone rang.
Seeing the name on the screen, her eyes visibly lit up.
She answered.
“Husband…”
The sweet, clingy “husband” made Zhou Yi’s expression change slightly. Everyone else exchanged glances.
Su Li breathed a sigh of relief. No matter how much the person on the other end disliked her calling him that, it was at least he who brought it on himself.
“We’re done here. Are you finished?” Su Li said, ignoring the silence on the line. “I’m at Suiyue Square. It’s okay, I’ll wait for you.”
Su Li didn’t expect him to come, nor did she care to ask why he was calling.
But it wasn’t impossible that he had dialed by mistake.
After hanging up, Su Li smiled helplessly. “That was my husband calling.”
“Really married?”
“Really.”
Zhou Yi’s expression darkened.
Someone nearby half-joked, “Such a big wedding news and you don’t say anything! If we hadn’t asked today, we wouldn’t even know you have a husband. You’ve hidden it so well. Now that we have a chance, we should at least see who’s lucky enough to marry you.”
Others nodded in agreement.
Su Li knew—they just wanted to see if she was lying.
She felt a bit guilty.
The marriage was real, but letting them meet Mo Xingyuan… too difficult.
Which woman is married and can’t even show her husband?
Already pushed into this corner, Su Li forced a smile, gritting her teeth.
She didn’t know if she looked awkward or not.
“Another time. He’s still busy, I don’t know how long it’ll take,” she said.
“No problem. There’s still plenty of time. We can wait,” Zhou Yi persisted.
Su Li let out a dry chuckle.
She couldn’t very well have Lu Jing find some man to pretend to be her husband in front of all these people.
“It’s raining.”
Someone said it without knowing why.
Su Li looked out through the glass window. The rain blurred the city lights.
Perfect—it gave them another excuse to wait a little longer.
The longer the wait, the hotter Su Li’s face felt.
The marriage was real, her husband hadn’t come—that was also real.
What was real for her, also had to appear false.
The rain grew heavier, and the streets emptied.
Suddenly, her phone rang again.
Seeing the caller, Su Li’s heart skipped a beat.
She took a quiet breath. “Hello?”
“Still not coming out?” Mo Xingyuan’s voice was cold and detached.
Su Li was shocked, looking out the window. “You came?”
“Embarrassing.”
“……”
Su Li bit her lip. No matter how bad his tone was, at least he had rescued her from this awkward situation.
She hung up and told everyone, “My husband’s here. I have to go first.”
