Chapter – 03

The reason was simple.

Patients who came to the endoscopy unit went to the bathroom frequently. Extremely frequently.

Each person used the restroom dozens of times a day, and no matter how much she scrubbed and scrubbed again, the cleaning never seemed to end.

If you spent every day wiping down toilets like this, tears came naturally.

[Attention, please. The janitor in charge of the 5th-floor endoscopy unit is requested to promptly tidy the men’s restroom. Once again—]

Hearing the announcement echo through the hallway, Cheonga grabbed her hair in frustration.

That meant someone had done something terrible in the bathroom again.

I was just there ten minutes ago, cleaning the toilet.

“Undercover investigation, my ass. I’ve been scrubbing toilets all day!”

Clutching her mop, she marched toward the restroom with grim determination.

There was no special reason she’d been assigned to the 5th floor.

Most likely, the other janitors hated it.

Ah—maybe the previous worker had fled after scrubbing toilets all day and nearly suffocating from the stench.

That was probably the truth.

Thinking that, she rounded the corner toward the restroom—

And then—

The tip of her mop, which had been swinging back and forth, suddenly thunked into something soft.

And—

“Ghk?!”

Something collapsed on the other side of the wall in slow motion.

A white coat fluttered through the air and fell toward the floor—no, toward Cheonga.

“Huh?”

The person collapsing toward her was a man who looked like medical staff.

Even though half his small face was covered by a surgical mask, his expression was unmistakably one of distress.

Cheonga instinctively twisted her body to dodge him. With nothing left to lean on, the man thudded to the floor.

“Ah—! Are you okay?!”

She crouched down and shook the man, who was hunched over.

With a trembling hand, he clutched his lower abdomen—or rather, slightly below that.

Grimacing, he muttered,

“W-what the hell… you…”

His hand grabbed onto the hem of Cheonga’s clothes, fingers fumbling.

“Y-you… bastard… Cheonghwa…?”

Cheonga’s expression froze instantly.

The man’s grip weakened as his words trailed off.

Cheonghwa?

Frowning deeply, Cheonga examined the unconscious man.

His speech had been muffled by the mask, but he had clearly said Cheonghwa.

Why would this guy know about the Cheonghwa faction?

Her hand shot out, flipping over the name tag on his chest.

Min Yushin
Professor, Department of Gastroenterology

“Professor?”

She lifted her head and scanned the surroundings.

This was the area near the professors’ research offices, where general foot traffic was restricted. No one else was around.

Fixing her gaze on the corner, she reached into the man’s back pocket and pulled out his wallet.

His ID and credit cards all bore the same name: Min Yushin.

It took less than a minute to check everything with one hand.

The other hand, meanwhile, was checking his pulse. She couldn’t risk letting someone die because of her mistake.

His pulse—slow, but normal.

Pupils—she quickly flipped his eyelids open, but it was hard to tell since he was already unconscious.

Lastly, and most importantly—his groin.

Thankfully, there was no visible bleeding, but—

Closing her eyes tightly, Cheonga’s hand moved toward the injured area.

“Mm…? Ah—oh!”

Her fingers trembled as they brushed against his waistband.

The size she felt was alarming. Getting hit there by a mop must have done serious damage.

She jerked her hand back in shock. Every time she touched it, it seemed to be swelling in real time.

This… isn’t this dangerous if it swells that much?

Her pale eyes darted between his face and his lower body.

If she left him like this, something really bad could happen.

Emergency. This is an emergency!

Cheonga hurriedly hooked her arms under his armpits, bent her knees, and began dragging his body along the floor.

“Ugh—what the hell is this?!”

He was tall, sure—but did he really have to be this heavy?

Cheonga had far more strength and stamina than most women, but dragging Min Yushin was no easy task.

Just from the firmness of the latissimus and pectoral muscles under her hands, she could tell.

This guy—he looked slim, but he had a lot of muscle.

Of course he’d be heavy.

Her back trembled as she strained to pull him.

What do I do—this is bad…!

Fighting back tears, Cheonga dragged him with all her strength.

Her destination was the endoscopy unit, where medical staff would be gathered.

Step by step, sweat poured down her face.

“Help! Please help!”

She finally reached the front of the endoscopy unit and cried out.

A nurse in examination clothes gasped when she saw them.

“Oh my—Professor!”

A shrill cry echoed down the hallway.

The nurse ran inside, shouting something, and in moments, medical staff flooded out.

Cheonga stood there, panting, close to tears.

Min Yushin’s unconscious body sagged heavily in her hands.

“He—he collapsed in the hallway!”

“Get a gurney! Call the CPR team!”

“H-he also got hit in the groin by a mop when he fell!”

“Oh my!”

The order of events was a bit jumbled, but all the important points were conveyed.

A portable stretcher was quickly brought out, and the staff expertly lifted Min Yushin onto it.

“Careful—on three. One, two, three!”

Even unconscious, Yushin grimaced and curled his body, clearly in pain from a very unfortunate area.

I’m… I’m so sorry.

Cheonga apologized silently.

Then she sprinted back to the professor’s office area she had been cleaning.

Once again, the hospital announcement rang out, requesting restroom sanitation.

I’m going, I’m going!

Grabbing the mop lying on the floor, Cheonga ran toward the restroom while dialing a number.

[Whoa. Good morning, senior.]

The person who answered was Inspector In Yeonhui from the Central Agency’s Intelligence Analysis Division.

“Yeonhui, I need help!”

[With what? Something fun?]

From the excited voice on the other end, Cheonga could practically picture Yeonhui’s eyes sparkling.

“Name: Min Yushin. Age: thirty-three. Professor of Gastroenterology at Boksan University Hospital. Dig into his background. It’s urgent.”

She rattled off the details she’d seen on his ID.

The sound of rapid typing stopped.

Soon, Yeonhui burst out laughing.

[What is this? Where’d you pick up such a decent guy?]

A decent guy?

Cheonga froze, her hand scrubbing the toilet bowl coming to a halt.

“That’s not it. He’s suspicious.”

[Why? There’s nothing suspicious about him. Solid job, lives in a great neighborhood. Looks like a total silver spoon.]

Despite Yeonhui’s explanation, Cheonga’s face darkened with deeper suspicion.

Lowering her voice, she said,

“I’m undercover at the hospital right now. The moment he saw me, he asked if I was Cheonghwa.”

There was a rustling sound as Yeonhui straightened up.

[Seriously? That Cheonghwa? The one that made our narcotics TF team look like idiots? He asked you that out of nowhere?]

“Well, I kind of… injured him. But in that moment, he urgently asked if I was Cheonghwa. I’m undercover as Park Bokseon—no way he was calling my real name.”

[That makes it even more suspicious.]

“Right? One thing’s for sure. I got a strong feeling.”

A brief silence fell between them.

Yeonhui never dismissed Cheonga’s instincts as mere intuition.

Top graduate of the police academy. A walking archive of investigation records. Field experience to match.

Cheonga was a human supercomputer packed with overwhelming amounts of data.

And her conclusions always outpaced system predictions, landing squarely on the truth.

The problem was—Cheonga herself couldn’t explain the process.

She always said things like, ‘It feels off,’ or ‘I smell crime.’

So most people just thought, Officer Kim Cheonga has good instincts.

But Yeonhui was different.

This isn’t intuition—it’s high-performance forensic computation running in her brain, beyond even AI, you idiots.

Without hesitation, Yeonhui began following Cheonga’s lead.

[Okay. I’ll dig deeper. So far, one thing stands out—there’s a high chance he’s exempt from military service.]

“Military exemption?”

[He’s thirty-three and already a professor. Without an exemption, that’d be impossible.]

“Oh. Right.”

[He looks perfectly healthy too, which makes it even weirder.]

“Got it. Thanks—counting on you!”

Cheonga smiled at the now-gleaming toilet bowl.

Summary

Police Inspector Kim Cheonga goes undercover as a janitor at a university hospital to conduct an investigation.
But then—she ends up striking Professor Min Yusin with the mop handle she was supposed to be cleaning with! (Physically.)

“What the— you… Cheonghwa… Pa?”

As Yusin was losing consciousness, he muttered the name of a drug organization.
Perhaps because he was struck in a very unfortunate spot, he begins to obsess frighteningly over Cheonga. To make matters worse, he even steals information about the drug organization and disappears.

After her undercover investigation fails because of Yusin, Cheonga grits her teeth and follows the next lead, heading out to investigate a PC café.
And there, she encounters a man who looks exactly like Min Yusin—Min Woojin.

“What? Why do you keep staring? Is it because I’m handsome and you can’t stop looking?”

His actions, speech, and overall vibe are completely different.
So why does he feel like the same person?
Suspicious—very suspicious.
A man whose identity makes it impossible to tell whether he’s an enemy or an ally.
Will Cheonga be able to uncover who he really is?
