Chapter 40
After Theo left, I finally realized something when I returned to my room.
“I forgot to bring the snake drawing.”
I sat back at my desk and tried to focus on sketching it again.
But it was hard to concentrate. Theo’s face kept flashing through my mind, no matter how hard I tried to push it away.
After forcing myself to ignore the thoughts, I somehow managed to finish.
“All done!”
If I were being generous, I’d say it looked a little better than the first one—probably because it was my second attempt.
But there was a problem.
“Now how am I supposed to find him?”
“Sis!”
The next morning, I arrived at the cake shop just as it opened. Louise greeted me with her usual bright smile.
“I need to talk to you. Are you busy?”
“Come in.”
She led me to the secret space in the back of the shop.
“I’m glad to see your face first thing in the morning, but judging by your expression, this isn’t a happy visit, right?”
“You’re right.”
“You don’t look well today either.”
So it really showed that much.
The truth was, I hadn’t slept well. Theo’s image—him standing alone in the garden—kept haunting me for some reason.
“It’s nothing else. Do you recognize this drawing?”
“Hmm… I’m not sure. It looks familiar, though. Where did you see it?”
“Just… on someone’s hand. I need to find that person.”
“Wait here a second.”
She left for a moment and returned with another woman.
“Hello, Lady Yvonne. I’m Rami.”
It was the new employee Louise had mentioned before.
“Rami, have you ever seen this drawing?”
The reaction came immediately. Her eyes widened the instant she looked at it, and my heart started to race.
“Where did you see this?”
“Just happened to. It was drawn on someone’s hand. You recognize it?”
“Of course. But… how did you come across it?”
“By chance.”
Which, from my point of view, was technically true.
“That’s the mark of the Lamore Assassins.”
“The Lamore Assassins? What kind of group is that?”
“They’re highly skilled killers. They never leave evidence behind. Hiring them costs a fortune—so only the wealthy can afford their services.”
That helped narrow things down.
First clue: someone with enough wealth and power to hire elite assassins.
“Thanks, Rami. Do you know where Lamore is based?”
“Wait, don’t tell me you’re trying to find Raphael…”
“No, it’s nothing like that.”
Louise jumped in before Rami could answer, completely misunderstanding me.
I wasn’t harboring enough resentment toward my ex-fiancé to want him dead. If anything, I’d stopped caring entirely.
“There is no Lamore anymore,” Rami said quietly.
“What do you mean?”
“They’re all dead.”
Images of the three masked men Theo killed flashed through my mind.
Could those three have been the only members?
“They were supposed to be elite. How did they all die?” Louise asked curiously.
“Apparently, a few of them went on a job recently and failed. Every single one of them was killed. That had never happened before.”
For such talented assassins to die in one go… Theo really was something else.
“And the rest of them died yesterday.”
So the ones who’d gone out to kill me were probably finished off by Theo.
But who killed the others after that?
And more importantly…
“How do you know all this, Rami?”
“Because Rami used to be an assassin herself,” Louise answered for her.
Rami nodded without hesitation.
That explained a lot—she knew too much for a civilian.
“Don’t worry. I’ve washed my hands of that life. They used to give me easier targets because I was a woman, but I hated killing innocent women. It made me sick.”
…I liked her instantly.
“I believe you. So were you part of Lamore too?”
“No. But my ex-boyfriend was. Even after we broke up, he kept visiting me to tell me what was going on. When he didn’t show up yesterday, I got worried.”
“So you went to look for him?”
“Yes. Given his job, I feared he might be dead… and when I got there…”
She paused for a moment before continuing.
“They were all dead—stabbed, bleeding out on the floor.”
What? Assassins that skilled, all killed by the sword? Who could possibly pull that off?
Two possibilities formed in my head.
First: a high-ranking noble or even a royal—someone who ordered their elimination to erase the evidence.
Second…
“…The one who hired them can’t die yet.”
Theo’s face flashed in my mind—his fury, his swordsmanship, his calm precision.
Had he killed them before leaving?
But why? Why go to such lengths for me?
We weren’t even friends anymore.
Realizing that made my chest ache.
So… I won’t find the mastermind after all, will I?
Just when I thought I’d found a lead, everything tangled again.
This was bad. Somehow, I had a feeling my life was about to get a lot shorter.
“Lady Yvonne.”
Rami’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
“I found something at the site and picked it up.”
She handed me a handkerchief.
And the moment I saw the embroidered crest, I knew.
The person rich and powerful enough to hire assassins…
was someone from my own family.
My Doomed Love Is Entertaining
Episode 80
“Honestly, what a pain.”
Early dawn. Rami muttered curses about her ex-boyfriend Alain as she walked toward the place he used to frequent.
She’d left behind her life as an assassin and broken things off with him to start fresh. Still, he came by every day to see her.
And though she’d act annoyed, she secretly waited for him.
“Why hasn’t he come?”
But dawn had arrived, and he still hadn’t shown up. That wasn’t like him—he always warned her if he was running late.
Following the familiar winding road, she reached Lamore’s headquarters.
Something’s off…
The moment she stepped inside, a chill ran down her spine. The silence was suffocating.
She opened the meeting room door—
“What… what is this…”
The stench of blood greeted her.
Everyone—including Alain—was dead, their bodies pierced by swords.
Tears streamed down her cheeks. She was used to sudden loss in her line of work, but this one still hurt.
Closing her eyes, she bowed her head in mourning. She knew she’d committed unforgivable sins in her life.
Still, she hoped someone might mourn her too someday.
When she opened her eyes again, she noticed something strange at her feet.
A clue, maybe.
Her instincts told her it was important. So she picked it up—a handkerchief—and left.
Meanwhile—
“This way, Lord Theo.”
Using the snake drawing Yvonne had made, Theo had tracked down Lamore’s base as well.
As he approached, he spotted a woman leaving the building in haste.
“Suspicious. Luca, follow her.”
“Yes, my lord.”
As Luca tailed Rami, Theo and Mael entered the building… only to find it drenched in blood.
(The rest omitted.)
“Good work today.”
“Goodnight, Miss Louise. Please be careful on your way home.”
Another peaceful day ended at the cake shop.
But as Rami walked home, she felt it again—that eerie sensation of being followed.
It had started right after she’d left Lamore’s hideout.
When she was sure of it, she spun around and drew the sword she’d kept hidden beneath her cloak.
“I knew it—you’re not just any woman.”
A man stood there, blade in hand.
“Why are you following me?”
“Why were you at that place before dawn?”
“You were watching me?”
“I was headed there myself when I saw you leaving.”
So he thought she was the culprit.
But when she met his burning crimson eyes, full of restrained anger, she realized—
“I got there after it happened. Everyone was already dead. Do you really think I could kill them all alone?”
Her calm response made his fury waver.
“What’s your connection to them?”
“Do I have to tell you? I don’t even know who you are.”
“…Fine. You don’t have to answer. But you seemed close enough to know something. Did you find anything suspicious at the scene?”
“No.”
She lied, hiding the truth about the handkerchief.
She’d given it to Yvonne for a reason.
The embroidered crest, the tension in the air—something told her that danger was already close to the duke’s household.
“I just hope it helps her,” she thought silently.
“If you saw anything strange, tell me,” the man said. “You won’t be harmed. I’m tracking down whoever killed them.”
“I already gave what I found to someone else.”
For some reason, Rami—usually so cautious—wanted to trust him.
“Who did you give it to?”
“I can’t say. But it was a handkerchief… with a family crest embroidered on it.”
“Can you draw it?”
“That much, yes.”
Having once been an assassin, she knew crests well. She sketched it from memory.
The man’s expression darkened instantly.
“Find out whose crest that is,” she said coolly.
“Thank you. She’s in danger.”
He turned to leave, his voice hard but tinged with worry.
She’s in danger.
Rami watched his back disappear and let out a small sigh.
“He must’ve meant Lady Yvonne.”
Yvonne—the woman who had accepted her past and helped her start anew.
Rami wanted to help her too, but after leaving that bloody life behind, she couldn’t risk exposing herself.
Still, the man’s words lingered.
Maybe he really would find the culprit.
And perhaps… that would be enough.
She turned homeward, her steps lighter than before.
Two days later—
“You’re a new face, aren’t you?”
“Hello, Lady Yvonne. I’m Luca, your new attendant.”
Luca had successfully infiltrated the Duke of Lambert’s mansion.
