“Richard naturally smiles in front of Rena, doesn’t he?”
As he muttered quietly while reading the documents, a nearby aide who had been putting away the approved papers looked up and caught Klaus’s aside.
“You seem to have gotten quite close. I hear you’ve promised to go to the museum together next time.”
“Ah… It’s hard enough just getting Richard out of his room, but she can astonishingly easily take that boy out on an outing.”
Of course they couldn’t let him go out just the two of them, so Klaus intended to come along as well. Yet there was something about the relationship between Richard and Rena that seemed to create a private little world for just the two of them, and for some reason Klaus felt a sense of alienation.
“Clarence would probably get jealous if he saw this.”
“Oh, my lord, you too?”
“…Yes.”
While Klaus and Clarence frantically tried to shorten the distance with Richard, Rena had already accomplished that feat in a mere half a month.
(Ai, perhaps since the day we met…)
Why? What was different? Klaus worried about his younger brother so much, yet the one who had opened his heart wasn’t his real brother but another person, the Countess.
“… Richard seems to like women of that kind, I wonder.”
“Yes?”
The aide turned around in surprise, but Klaus faced him with a serious look, resting his chin on his hand.
“Thirteen years his junior… but perhaps Richard would suit someone that age.”
“Y-your lordship? Please calm yourself. Prince Richard is only ten years old.”
“Ten years from now he’ll be twenty. It’s not too early to decide now, is it?”
“…Is that so…?”
“I want Richard to be happy.”
“Well, even so… it’s hard to imagine a twenty-two-year-old woman with a ten-year-old prince…”
“Age difference isn’t the issue. What matters is whether Richard can open his heart.”
When Klaus spoke with such conviction, the aide fell silent, as if unable to say anything.
“In that case, I should look into Rena Cremoran a little more. It should be fine, but just in case.”
“My lord… perhaps you should think a bit more calmly…”
“I am calm. That’s why I say I’ll investigate.”
“In that sense…”
Klaus handed the signed documents to the aide and spoke with a serious face.
“Investigate it.”
“…If you command it, I will, but I won’t be responsible for what happens afterward…”
The aide breathed out heavily, but Klaus, who could think only of Richard, did not understand what was causing him that unease.
