“Lena, you like Klaus-sama, right?”
It was around half a month after Lena started going to the castle that Richard suddenly said something like that.
“Ha!”
Lena, who was taking a break with Richard, spat out the tea she had in her mouth in a loud spray.
Elvis laughed as he wiped the spilled tea from the table.
Feeling embarrassed, Lena bowed her head and apologized, saying, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” while Richard chuckled softly.
“Lena, you’re interesting.”
“Wh-what do you mean?”
“Hmm, the way all your emotions show on your face? But I guess Brother is too insensitive to notice at all.”
“Um, Your Highness, that’s…”
“I’m not telling him anything, you know? I just genuinely thought, Lena really does like him, doesn’t she?”
“Ugh…”
I didn’t expect a ten-year-old to point that out.
(It’s not so much love as admiration, though…)
I had admired him for six years. And I was also aware that I was excited by Klaus’s smile when he looked at Richard after coming here. But was it obvious enough for Richard to notice?
Richard, with sparkling eyes, leaned forward toward Lena.
“Hey, shall I help you out?”
“Y-You want to help? That’s too presumptuous of me! Just watching Klaus-sama makes me happy, so I can’t possibly—”
“No, I think it’s a good idea.”
“O-Oh, just your feelings. And please keep this between us…”
“If you say so, then… alright.”
Richard nodded with a slightly dissatisfied look.
“More importantly, Your Highness, what shall we draw next?”
One painting was completed, and another blank canvas was prepared.
Richard tilted his head and mumbled, “Hmm,” then said he was thinking of drawing animals.
“Animals?”
“Yeah. Birds, or something. Oh, and Klaus-sama actually likes cute things—birds, flowers, stuff like that!”
“Really?”
Hearing what Klaus liked unexpectedly, Lena leaned forward instinctively.
“Yeah, so, let’s draw a picture of a bird and give it to him as a present.”
“That’s a great idea!”
“And Lena will draw one too.”
“Eh… but my drawings…”
“No buts! Klaus will definitely be happy! Come on, okay?”
Seeing that Klaus would be pleased, Lena felt motivated to draw after all.
“Alright, then, let’s sketch a bird. But I wonder if we’ll spot any from the window…”
Richard looked outside the window with a troubled expression. Indeed, finding birds from inside was no easy task.
Lena thought for a moment and clapped her hands together.
“If we go to the park near the southern river, there are lots of birds!”
“Park…”
“Do you dislike it?”
“Hmm… well, I suppose I could go sometimes. Elvis, could you ask Klaus for permission?”
“Understood.”
Elvis smiled happily and hurried out of the room.
Soon after, Klaus rushed into Richard’s room in a panic.
“Are you going to the park, Richard?”
Lena widened her eyes at his flustered appearance, but Richard, as if he expected this, gave a wry smile and nodded.
“Let’s make arrangements immediately. Wait a little.”
Saying that, Klaus ran out of the room, and Richard shrugged his shoulders with a sigh.
From the look on his face, it seemed Klaus was likely to follow. I wonder if he’s okay with just work…
