Chapter – 90
Hurry to the Back Mountain
Splash! The lotus leaves in the pond scattered, sending a huge spray of water into the air.
“Help! Somebody help me…”
Out of instinct, Lu Ziqing choked on water, flailing and shouting wildly.
Qiao Le rested her hands on the railing, looking at the struggling figure in the pond, and let out a cold laugh. “Lu Ziqing, are you out of your mind? The water barely reaches your waist. Why are you screaming like an idiot?”
Lu Ziqing’s flailing hands froze. She staggered to her feet, hair disheveled, clothes soaked, looking utterly pathetic.
Just as Qiao Le said, the water level only reached her waist.
“Wanwan, where are you going?” Qiao Le turned her head, but Mu Wanwan’s figure had already disappeared into the bamboo grove. She stomped her foot and hurried after her.
“Ziqing, are you okay?” An Yao ran down the small bridge, extending her hand. “Give me your hand—quick, get out of the water.”
Lu Ziqing grabbed her hand for leverage and climbed onto the edge of the pond, collapsing onto a stone bench. Her eyes were red, lips trembling in anger.
Fu Dong chased after them, calling out, “What happened?”
An Yao took out a tissue to wipe the water from Lu Ziqing’s face, a trace of derision flickering in her eyes.
“She’s a woman with a heart of a viper,” An Yao thought.
Meeting Lu Li’s cold, icy gaze, Lu Ziqing’s words died on her lips. Her face was full of grievance and hurt.
“Ziqing, speak quickly. Don’t really anger your brother,” Fu Dong advised quietly, watching Lu Li’s tense expression.
“Brother, Mu Wanwan pushed me off the bridge!” Seeing Lu Li, Lu Ziqing couldn’t contain her anger and blamed the culprit first.
Hearing this, Fu Dong’s expression changed, and he followed Ho Zheng to chase after Lu Li.
Lu Li had lost patience. As he took a step, Ho Zheng sensed trouble and hurriedly grabbed him, looking at An Yao. “An Yao, do you know where Wanwan went?”
Lu Li’s brows darkened. He scanned the area but couldn’t see Mu Wanwan. His aura suddenly turned icy. “Wanwan, where are you?”
“Mu Wanwan, Mu Wanwan, I hate you!” Lu Ziqing screamed frantically.
He pulled out his phone from his pocket and frowned at the incoming call.
Lu Li’s expression changed. He spun on his heel and strode off.
An Yao’s eyes darkened as she thought about the direction Mu Wanwan had gone. Half-seriously, she said, “I don’t know either. Wanwan pushed Ziqing, and I was busy pulling Ziqing out of the pond. I didn’t notice where she went.”
He was her own brother, yet he hadn’t even shown concern when Mu Wanwan pushed her into the pond. His first words were about Wanwan.
Only Mu Wanwan could make Lu Li lose his composure. Ho Zheng’s expression shifted slightly. “No need to shout. Let’s hurry and follow. Wanwan must be in trouble.”
Tears glimmered in Lu Ziqing’s eyes as she angrily shook off Fu Dong’s hand. “She pushed me into the pond—how could I care where she went?”
At that moment, Lu Li’s phone rang.
“Hey, Cousin…”
“What happened?” After learning from the little monk that this incident was caused by Lu Ziqing, Fu Dong hurried to find Lu Li—but he was already a step late.
The moment the call connected, Qiao Le’s anxious voice came through the phone. “Lu Li, hurry to the back mountain! Something’s happened!”
The sky darkened gradually, the wind howling violently.
The back mountain of the temple was deserted, with steep, winding terrain and dense, wild greenery.
Looking around, everything appeared desolate.
The howling wind made the back mountain even more eerie and foreboding.
