Chapter – 70
Rivalry Face-Off, Wanwan Wins Completely
Lu Li chuckled softly. “Then make sure you keep up.”
The sound of the hairdryer beside her stopped. Mu Wanwan looked up at the man helping her with her hair and, on a whim, asked, “Lu Li, do you still play basketball?”
Before the words had even left her mouth, she immediately regretted asking.
After a pause, he replied in a calm voice, “I don’t.”
Without her cheering for him in the stands anymore, basketball no longer held any meaning for him. He didn’t want to spend time searching the crowd for her face, only to see unfamiliar faces instead.
That kind of disappointment was almost like being slowly torn apart.
Mu Wanwan bit her lip lightly, and the two of them fell silent again.
“Are you hungry?” Lu Li asked as he put away the hairdryer.
She nodded honestly. “Yes.”
Lu Li went to open the door, and when he saw the visitor, his brows knitted just slightly.
“But Lu Li said I should go back to my room, and he wants to follow me there.” Wanwan smiled innocently, looking rather troubled. But there wasn’t a trace of humor in his deep eyes.
“I need to take a call.” Lu Li picked up his phone, which was vibrating non-stop on the table, said a word to Wanwan, and stepped onto the balcony to answer it.
See how considerate he is for her.
An Yao looked aggrieved. “But Lu Li, I and Wanwan were high school classmates. Can’t I just come visit and check on her?”
“Put on my slippers.” Lu Li noticed her bare feet and without thinking, took off his own slippers for her.
“Is there something wrong?”
There was no need to go around in circles with her.
An Yao had mastered the art of subtle manipulation, and Wanwan couldn’t help but feel impressed.
An Yao stared at the slippers on Wanwan’s feet. Hearing her words, she forced a smile and followed her inside.
“Wanwan, these slippers are too big; you might trip. Let me help you back to your own room to rest, okay?” An Yao glanced at the closed balcony doors and spoke delicately. “After all, it wouldn’t look good for a young man and woman to be alone together. If it got out, Madam Lu could easily misunderstand and think you’re a careless girl. We girls really need to watch our reputation, don’t you agree?”
Lu Li’s patience usually only showed for Mu Wanwan. He was about to close the door when Wanwan walked over.
The implication of An Yao’s words was clear: she wanted Wanwan out of the room, so she wouldn’t be alone with Lu Li.
“Wanwan, are you okay?” An Yao asked gently.
“Not coming in?” Wanwan replied.
“Lu Li, I heard from Huo Zheng that Wanwan has woken up. I thought I’d come visit. You probably haven’t eaten yet, so I brought dinner over.” An Yao spoke softly.
“Lu Li, let her in,” she insisted.
“No need.”
An Yao noticed that Wanwan had changed clothes and couldn’t stop imagining what might have just happened between her and Lu Li in the room. The more she thought about it, the crazier her jealousy became.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Wanwan’s gaze was indifferent. “There’s nothing.”
With a sidelong glance at An Yao, Wanwan put on Lu Li’s slippers in front of her.
“Knock knock knock—”
“Why don’t you give me some advice, then?”
An Yao’s back stiffened, and her smile nearly faltered.
She masked her jealousy and anger with a forced laugh. “Lu Li doesn’t seem like the clingy type; he’s probably just joking with you.”
Wanwan crossed her legs, propping her chin on one hand, her smile deepening. “It seems you still don’t really know Lu Li. He’s never really been one to joke around.”
