Chapter – 54
Sworn Brother’s Younger “Brother”
Mu Wanwan clenched the small pouch tightly, curling her lips into a smile.
It was her protective charm.
Thankfully, she hadn’t lost it.
“Miss Mu, can we go now?” Qiao Le asked.
Mu Wanwan chuckled softly. “Let’s go.”
The night sky was especially brilliant and enchanting.
The wind stirred the ripples on the lake, scattering the soft light into patches.
“Wanwan, what’s the plan for tomorrow?” Qiao Le walked backward along the quiet path, holding a rose she had apparently picked somewhere.
“I saw that the resort has a club that looks fun. Want to check it out tomorrow?”
Mu Wanwan walked to a nearby lounge chair and sat down. “Do you really think I’m here just to vacation? The magazine still has a ton of work waiting for me.”
“The younger ‘brother’ of the Fu Group’s young master, Wanwan… that’s you!” Qiao Le teased with a playful tone, a little surprised.
“Fu Dong?” That name sounded so familiar. Qiao Le frowned slightly, then her eyes lit up. “You’re the Fu Group’s young master?”
With her talent, being an associate editor was a waste.
“Yeah, I met him abroad.”
“Really? In what situation?”
“Abroad, we had a car accident together, he lost a bet to me, and… well, that’s how things are now,” Mu Wanwan explained succinctly.
Fu Dong interjected, “By the way, you haven’t said how you ended up here yet.”
Upon hearing the word “beautiful,” Qiao Le laughed heartily, the rose in her hand trembling with excitement. “Not bad, handsome. You’ve got good taste.”
Fu Dong suddenly leaned forward, propping his chin with one hand. “How about this—you come work at my company, and you can set your own terms?”
He cleared his throat, then, noticing Qiao Le, quickly changed the topic. “Oh, there’s a beautiful lady here too.”
Mu Wanwan shook her head. “I’m not sure either. Tomorrow there will probably be a meeting, then a promotional shoot at the resort, and an interview. The rest depends on arrangements.”
Qiao Le groaned, massaging her forehead. “So boring.”
“Thinking of slacking off already?” Mu Wanwan asked with a teasing smile.
Fu Dong self-deprecatingly muttered, “Since when did I become so famous?”
“I’m the associate editor of M·E, here with the magazine crew for an interview,” Mu Wanwan said.
At that moment, Mu Wanwan’s phone suddenly rang.
Fu Dong commented, “Ignoring me, huh?”
After hanging up, Qiao Le asked, “What’s up?”
“My ‘brother,’” Mu Wanwan said, “Isn’t that odd?”
Qiao Le made an “OK” gesture.
“Alright, when I get fired, I’ll consider your offer,” Mu Wanwan replied with a faint smile, following his lead.
She turned to see someone approaching, raising her eyebrows. That fool showed up here too?
Mu Wanwan had already expected his reaction and had covered her ears in advance. She only lowered her hands after he stopped.
“When did you get a younger brother? How come I didn’t know?” Qiao Le looked at Fu Dong sharply. Fu Dong smiled calmly and waved at her.
“So, how long are you busy?”
Fu Dong paused, then dug into his ear, as if hearing something unbelievable. His voice grew excited. “No way, Mu Wanwan. You’ve got a ton of better job opportunities, yet you go to a magazine as an associate editor. What were you thinking?”
“My editor had some matters for me. I’ll head over first,” Mu Wanwan said, standing up and looking down at Qiao Le. “You guys talk.”
“My goodness, coming to this place and still busy with work? That’s miserable,” Qiao Le sighed dramatically while sitting beside her.
“I like her,” Fu Dong admitted openly, then clarified, “But not in the way you’re thinking. Wanwan is very attractive. When I first met her, I was impressed—not romantically, just as a friend. Wanwan, I can’t control her.”
Fu Dong smirked, rolling his eyes dramatically. “Pfft, you’re only a year older than me. How can you be called ‘sister’?”
Qiao Le nudged Mu Wanwan with her elbow. “Nonsense! Sisters are forever eighteen. Where are the crow’s feet? Wanwan, introduce him properly.”
“Mu Wanwan?”
“Forget swimming, is there a tennis court?” Qiao Le asked.
Seeing the man jogging over, Qiao Le glanced at Mu Wanwan in puzzlement. “You know him?”
Mu Wanwan checked her phone—it was Zheng Hao’s number.
Sure enough, Qiao Le turned to Mu Wanwan with a knowing smile. “He’s your admirer, huh?”
Qiao Le wasn’t afraid, lifting her chin. “Try it.”
Mu Wanwan lightly tapped her on the head. “Don’t talk nonsense, younger brother, understand?”
Mu Wanwan felt a twinge in her heart. “You look so creepy when you smile.”
She smiled calmly. “Why are you so worked up? M·E is one of the top magazines in S City. How come it sounds so unimpressive when you say it?”
“Even if you keep smiling, those crow’s feet will show,” Mu Wanwan teased.
Fu Dong relaxed, picked a chair, and sat casually. He stared at Mu Wanwan, visibly excited. “Mu Wanwan, what are you doing here?”
“It really is you, Mu Wanwan.” After drinking with Huo Zheng, Fu Dong had planned to swim, but unexpectedly ran into someone familiar at the resort.
“Did you call her, ‘sister’?” Mu Wanwan sarcastically remarked at his overexcited behavior.
“Okay, I got it. I’ll head over now.”
The two walked through the shade. Qiao Le tilted her head at the person beside her. “You like Wanwan?”
“Swimming, want to go?” Fu Dong picked up the rose, sniffed it, and smirked mischievously.
“Of course,” Qiao Le nodded firmly, then turned her gaze back to Mu Wanwan. “Be honest—how did you meet?”
Before Mu Wanwan could answer, Fu Dong jumped in first. “Hello, beautiful. I’m Fu Dong, a friend of Mu Wanwan.”
After Mu Wanwan walked away, Qiao Le turned to Fu Dong, tossing the rose into his arms. “Handsome, what’s fun at this resort? Give me the lowdown.”
“As her sworn ‘brother,’ I’m not losing out, don’t you think?”
Qiao Le stared at him for a moment, shrugged, and smirked. “Not bad at all.”
“Let’s go, have a match,” Fu Dong said cheerfully. “Loser buys late-night snacks.”
Qiao Le: “Then it’s settled—you’re buying.”
