Prologue
A wave of unease swept over him.
It was sudden, but Choi Yeon didn’t doubt his instincts.
He followed the promptings of his emotions and hunched his back.
He hid his body behind a blue partition that blocked the view in front and on both sides.
Choi Yeon’s movements were fluid, like a river flowing, and as stealthy as a fox on a night hunt.
However…
“…Are you serious?”
He failed to achieve his goal.
“Right now, it’s just the three of us here, isn’t it?”
The problem was the location.
The Dongdae Hunter Office, barely ten pyeong in size, was hardly a place to avoid prying eyes.
And when there were only three people, including him, it was even worse.
“……”
Still, Choi Yeon didn’t give up.
He kept his back bent and stayed quiet.
If he remained hidden behind the partition like this, maybe he could get through unnoticed?
A futile thought lingered in his mind.
“Haah…”
A sigh echoed in his ears.
Squeak!
Soon, the thick weight pressing down on him disappeared, and the lumbar chair he’d been trapped in seemed to cheer in relief at regaining freedom.
Beyond the partition, a round sun—or rather, a bald head—rose.
Dongdae Captain Kim Jae-sang’s wide-open eyes met Choi Yeon’s thin, threadlike gaze in midair.
“……”
“……”
“Class C Dongdae Hunter, Choi Yeon.”
“…Yes.”
His rank and name were called out.
Only at that moment did Choi Yeon fully give up.
He straightened his back and offered a slight, sheepish smile.
Damn it. I could’ve gotten away with it…
—Such a vain delusion passed through his mind.
