“Really? This is the first time you’ve brought a girl home? I thought you were always just flirting around. And now you’re introducing someone?”
“Haha, Mother, flirting around? That’s just passing fancy, fleeting connections. This person… I truly feel I could spend my life with her. Being with her gives me stability, and I feel confident we could overcome any hardships together.”
Buhyun, hearing exactly what he wanted to from Taewook, chewed his lip with a mix of satisfaction and slight disappointment.
“Alright. Then bring her over. I want to have a proper conversation with the girl over a good meal. If she works at your father’s company, I approve. If you’re that serious, of course.”
“Understood. Dad won’t be home tomorrow evening, right? I’ll bring her after work. We can have dinner together. I’ll let the aunts know too.”
“I really wish I could mix you and your brother evenly. One’s got too many women, and the other barely meets anyone… Ugh, frustrating.”
Watching Buhyun mutter his complaint, Jeongwook couldn’t hide a satisfied smile as he rose from his seat.
He instructed the live-in housekeepers in the kitchen that a special guest would be coming tomorrow evening and requested a lavish meal be prepared.
The Next Day
Jeongwook secretly called Seola to the emergency stairs at work.
After closing the door, he leaned against the wall and lazily looked down at her.
“Jeongwook, what’s going on? You said you wanted to talk…”
He immediately approached, his gaze fixed on hers.
“Maltese, you’re coming with me to my family home tonight.”
“Pardon?”
Seola’s round eyes widened.
Suddenly, she was to have dinner at Jeongwook’s and the team leader’s family home?!
“Why me?”
Jeongwook’s eyes curved into a half-moon as he lifted the corner of his mouth.
“Just for dinner. My brother will be there too.”
“…?!”
Seola’s eyes grew even wider.
“The three of us… you, me, and the team leader, having dinner at my family home… is that right?”
“Correct.”
At his casual affirmation, Seola felt her heart flutter.
‘If we’re having dinner at the family home, their parents will be there too. So I’ll finally meet his parents properly. Is he introducing me formally already?’
She asked again, curious.
“Then why are you the one telling me about this, Jeongwook?”
If she were meeting his parents, why not Taewook himself?
“Ah—this? My brother is really busy with work, so I’m telling you instead.”
“Really?”
“Yep. So you just need to come for dinner tonight. That’s all you need to do. Got it?”
Jeongwook’s calm tone made it sound like the whole situation was effortlessly handled.
Seola thought, well, Taewook is busy anyway…
‘If we have dinner at his family home tonight, I wonder what kind of conversation we’ll have with his parents.’
Probably about her role as the team leader, and since Jeongwook joined as an intern and gets along well with her, they’ll likely chat about him too.
All three of them worked for JK Enterprises, run by the chairman, so they’d have plenty to talk about.
With her heart racing, Seola made plans to meet Jeongwook after work.
Jeongwook, anticipating dinner with Seola, sat at his desk feeling thrilled.
He struggled to focus on work but tapped the keyboard diligently, eagerly waiting for the clock to hit six.
After all, the girl who had always rejected his requests to meet outside of work was finally agreeing to go to his family home.
For the first time, he could spend time with her outside the office, and he was enjoying every minute, counting down the hours.
Brrring— Brrring— Brrring—
His phone rang. Jeongwook’s eyebrows lifted slightly as he saw the caller ID: “Noona Mijin.”
After a moment of hesitation, he carefully got up and went to the hallway to answer, whispering softly:
“Hello, noona.”
“Jeongwook!”
Mijin’s confident, commanding voice came through the receiver.
“Working?”
“Yeah, I told you I work at my dad’s company.”
“I see. Are you free tonight? I was thinking we could have dinner and talk about old times. Maybe Taewook, maybe you—just chat.”
Normally, he wouldn’t refuse, even with plans after work. But today was different. He already had an important prior engagement.
“Noona, I’m going to my family home tonight with a girl. I’m introducing her to my mother.”
“Eh? A girl? Really? So you can’t hang out with me? Can’t we postpone the introduction?”
“Noona, sorry. I told you I like someone. I’m serious about her. So I can’t. Let’s meet another time.”
Mijin’s bitter tone was the last thing he heard before ending the call.
Mijin quickly got ready to leave. She planned to arrive at the family home around JK Enterprises’ dismissal time and wait for either Taewook or Jeongwook.
She got into her flashy foreign car and stepped on the gas.
Her real purpose had been to get information about Taewook and lure Jeongwook out, but he was taking a girl to the family home.
So she wanted to see who the girl was.
She didn’t really care who Jeongwook liked.
But if it wasn’t Taewook, she thought she might as well keep an eye on Jeongwook and see if he was serious. At least she wanted to see the girl’s face.
Arriving at the family home, she slowed her car.
The magnificent mansion was surrounded by high brick walls.
Parking by the brick fence and turning off the engine, Mijin held her breath, waiting for Jeongwook to appear.
Soon, she heard the sound of a car and quickly lowered herself, putting on sunglasses.
A purple two-door coupe drove up and stopped in front of the house.
Luckily for Mijin, both the driver and passenger windows were open. She saw the girl sitting in the passenger seat and was instantly shocked.
“That… that girl?!”
It was the same girl who had visited Taewook’s house weeks ago and gone upstairs with him.
Mijin tilted her head in confusion and tried to identify the driver, unsure if it was Taewook or Jeongwook—both looked like doppelgangers.
Still unable to tell the brothers apart, she noticed the flashy purple coupe.
This was unmistakably Jeongwook’s taste.
Having spent time with him in college, ridden in his car, and even been intimate with him, she knew his flashy, bold style.
Taewook’s taste was more calm and sophisticated, definitely not like this.
“So… Jeongwook likes that girl too? Just like his brother?”
A crooked smile appeared on Mijin’s lips.
“Are they repeating the past?”
In the past, both brothers had been after her.
They had fought over her, sending her to the hospital even.
“Now they’re repeating history with another girl?”
Mijin let out a bitter laugh, resting her arms on the steering wheel, watching the car go into the mansion.
“Those were the days… when both Taewook and Jeongwook loved me so intensely.”
She still seemed intoxicated by those memories, a blissful expression on her face.
“No matter who I met in America, I could never find men as perfect and charming as Taewook and Jeongwook.”
But now the situation had changed. The brothers no longer loved her.
Now, both of them were captivated by this bright, cheerful girl, taking turns teasing her just like they had done with Mijin in the past.
“Ha…”
Mijin pondered deeply, wondering how to make at least one of them lose interest in this girl.
If it were Taewook, that would be even better..
