“Whoa… amazing.”
Raiga let out a voice of admiration as he looked back and forth between me and the now completely extinguished wagon fire.
Feeling a little proud, I grinned smugly—only for a wave of dizziness to hit me. I clutched my knees and crouched down where I was.
“Are you alright?”
Stefan hurried over to me.
“Thank you, I’m fine. Please, take out the cloth quickly. It’s such a waste to let it burn when it’s so clean…”
I pointed at the half-charred cargo on the wagon as I said that.
“Thank you as well. Got it.”
With that, Stefan began unloading the unburned goods together with Raiga.
“Saint! Are you alright!?”
The soldiers, who had been standing behind and watching the situation, ran up to me in a panic.
Meanwhile, the older man kept shouting, “Kill the dragon first!”
Stefan and Raiga silently continued their work of rescuing the cargo.
After a while, Raiga discovered a large metal chest inside the wagon.
“What’s this…?”
He crouched down in front of it, placed both hands on the chest, and sniffed it carefully.
After a few moments, he suddenly froze and looked up at Stefan.
“Stefan. There’s a monster’s scent coming from inside.”
“What did you say?”
Stefan stopped what he was doing and fixed his eyes sharply on the older man.
“Sir, what exactly is in this chest?”
“N-nothing! Never mind that—kill the dragon already!!”
…Yeah, he’s definitely hiding something. He’s sweating buckets.
Even I could tell he was suspicious, and Stefan and Raiga exchanged glances.
“Raiga, can you open it?”
“Leave it to me.”
The werewolf grabbed the top and bottom of the chest and pulled with all his might.
Crack—crack—CRACK!
The chest didn’t so much open as it split apart.
Wait, that was metal, right?
There was probably a lock on it—but that clearly didn’t matter. What insane strength…
And from the broken chest—
Thud.
A white, round object—larger than a human head—rolled out.
Raiga tossed aside the ruined chest and caught the sphere before it hit the ground.
He sniffed it once, and muttered softly:
“…It’s a dragon’s egg.”
