Because she possesses almost no healing magic, Algerita was branded a “useless freeloader.” She worked deep in the forest as a caretaker for dragons — a job said to be indispensable and noble, but in truth, it was harsh and shunned by others.
One morning, Algerita receives word from her family: her fiancé has switched his engagement to her younger sister, and she herself is to be married off as the second wife of an elderly general. Having no say in the matter, she is sent to the duke’s household — only to be greeted not by an old general, but by Marcus, the young duke, who informs her that his grandfather, the supposed groom, has already passed away.
With nowhere else to go, Algerita pleads with Marcus, saying, “I don’t have a job anymore, so please let me work here.” To which Marcus replies simply, “If you want a job, then become my wife.”
Bewildered by the sudden proposal, Algerita ends up being swept along by Marcus’s “suggestion.”
