Chapter 16
This monster rampage was just a diversion.
‘Yodalla’s real goal is to loot the headmaster’s office.’
Specifically, she wanted the magical safe inside, which held classified documents.
‘I can’t let those documents fall into Black Night’s hands.’
Right now, the only reason Black Night hasn’t acted openly and is sticking to the shadows is because of the headmaster.
His power is almost equal to Jeiraon’s, making him a natural deterrent.
With him around, Jeiraon and Black Night can’t move freely.
‘Those classified documents contain the headmaster’s secrets — his weaknesses.’
In the game’s story, this deterrent is removed in Act 2, Chapter 7, “Black Night Unleashed,” when Yodalla obtains the documents, learns the headmaster’s weakness, and Black Night stops worrying about him.
From then on, they act openly.
‘If they get that now, Black Night will move years earlier than they should.’
That chapter happens in the first semester of the third year — two years from now.
If they start now, we’re doomed.
At this point, Rozarin, Aris, Chloe, and most other allies are still weak rookies.
If Black Night moves now, we won’t be able to stop them.
‘I have to stop Yodalla from getting the documents. No matter what.’
But how?
I could tell the instructors the headmaster’s office is in danger…
No — that won’t work.
With the headmaster gone, no one in the academy could stop Yodalla.
Sending instructors would only mean unnecessary deaths.
And if I told them, Yodalla would know I leaked the plan — and she’d realize I’m a fake.
Too much risk for no gain.
That left only one option — get Lionel, the Knight Commander, involved.
Even he couldn’t beat Yodalla, but he could stall her.
I just had to find him.
“Jian! What are you doing, standing there?!”
An instructor at the front line shouted.
He was maintaining a huge magical wall to block the broken colosseum wall, but monsters were battering it relentlessly.
The barrier wouldn’t hold long.
“Run! This wall won’t—”
Crash!
Part of the barrier broke — the upper right section — though the rest still held.
The instructor quickly repaired it, but in that moment, a griffon burst through.
“Jian!!”
The griffon was level 41 — way beyond what a first-year could handle.
But I wasn’t a normal rookie.
‘Break its wings first with Sealing Blast.’
I extended my hand and used Rozarin’s original spell I’d learned yesterday.
Fwoooosh!
A white laser pierced its wing.
It crashed to the ground, losing balance.
‘Ground it, then destroy the brain. Standard griffon tactics.’
I aimed another Sealing Blast at its head.
[High-level enemy defeated.]
[Bonus experience awarded.]
The beam went through its forehead, killing it instantly.
The instructor stared in shock.
“Incredible… you used advanced magic…”
I called out:
“Instructor! All students have evacuated! I’m leaving too!”
“Ah! So you stayed to ensure the others escaped!”
…Not really. I’d just been thinking too much. But hey, if it made me look good, fine.
“Be careful!”
“You too!”
I bowed and ran out.
As I passed other instructors heading in, I locked eyes with them briefly before sprinting toward where Lionel was likely to be.
I found him quickly — he was heading toward the chaos, probably sent by Aris to help.
“Jian. What’s happening—”
“Sir Lionel! Perfect timing!”
I cut him off.
“I need your help!”
Yodalla saw the instructors rushing to handle the monsters and smiled.
“That should be enough.”
Now fewer than ten people remained in the faculty building — safe to sneak in.
She was about to move when—
“The faculty building is off-limits to unauthorized personnel.”
Lionel appeared before her, sword ready.
‘Lionel? Here? He should be guarding Princess Aris…’
The only ones who knew her real goal was the faculty building were Reaper, herself, and the Master.
If Lionel was here, that meant… someone leaked it.
And the only possible source was the Master.
‘If the Master leaked it, he’s not the real one…’
Her pupils slit like a snake’s, rage surging.
Lionel tensed.
“Snake-like eyes… alluring aura… you must be Yodalla of Black Night.”
“Only people I approve of — and handsome men — can speak my name. You’re neither.”
Behind her, a massive rift opened, like a snake’s mouth.
From it emerged the head of the “Snake of Illusions,” a beast from another realm — her greatest weapon.
“Disappear for me.”
The snake lunged with terrifying speed.
Lionel’s sword met it —
Clang!
Not even a scratch.
“You think that toy can cut me?”
The snake struck again, forcing Lionel onto the defensive.
‘Bad matchup…’
He was knocked back by a heavy blow.
“Just die quickly. I’m busy.”
Then—
—Yodalla.
The Master’s voice rang in her head.
—I’ll get the documents. You focus on keeping Lionel and the instructors busy.
Her eyes widened.
‘So the Master didn’t leak it? If he brings back the documents himself, he’s probably real…’
With Yodalla drawing everyone away, the faculty building was empty.
‘Now’s my chance.’
I slipped inside and ran to the headmaster’s office.
The key was not to stop Black Night from getting a document — but from getting the part about the headmaster’s weakness.
If I took the documents first and removed that section before handing them over, problem solved.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t just withhold the documents entirely — if I failed the mission, I’d be suspected.
And since only Yodalla, Reaper, and I knew the plan, suspicion would fall directly on me.
The office door was open — the vice principal must have left in a hurry.
I moved the painting on the wall, starting the puzzle to open the secret passage.
After about a minute, a hidden door opened.
Inside was a stash of equipment and a small but sturdy safe — the classified documents were inside.
I turned the lever—
Click… click.
It didn’t open.
“Locked?!”
In the game, this safe was open — but that was because I looted it in Act 3, after Yodalla had already stolen the documents.
Now, of course, it was still locked.
And worse—
[Verifying biometric code.]
“Biometric…?!”
It required a biological match to open — meaning I’d never be able to open it…
“You’ve got to be kidding me…”
Then—
[Biometric code confirmed.]
“…What?”
[Unlocking.]
Creak…
The safe door opened.
“How… could it match my biometrics?”
That was impossible — unless…
“The headmaster is a dragon.”
And my biometrics somehow matched his.
