Chapter 1 – Resurrection
“Xiao Yi!”
Shao Leyan screamed like a madwoman, accusing the man she loved most. Blood-tinged tears streamed from the empty sockets where her eyes once were.
“You wanted my eyes, my ears, my fingers, my liver and kidneys—I gave them all to you. But I can’t give you my heart. If I lose my heart… I’ll die.”
Xiao Yi let out a cold, dismissive snort.
“So what?”
The pain in Shao Leyan’s chest was so overwhelming she could barely breathe. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed helplessly on the cold floor.
“I’m your wife. Don’t you think you’re going too far?”
Xiao Yi’s gaze turned vicious, as if he wished he could grind this so-called wife of his into dust.
“Too far? Everything I’ve done is what you owe me and Yue. You will repay every bit—double.”
At the mention of Fu Yue’s name, Shao Leyan’s whole body trembled uncontrollably.
“What do I owe you? What do I owe her?”
“If your family hadn’t forced you onto me, Yue wouldn’t have been scorned for having no title. And Chuan Chuan and Min Min wouldn’t have been mocked as illegitimate children.”
“But our marriage was arranged before we were even born! Your wife can only be me. Fu Yue is just a shameful mistress!”
Smack!
Xiao Yi struck her with full force.
Her ears rang. The right side of her face swelled bright red. His nail tore a long gash across her lip, blood dripping down her chin.
Every time Xiao Yi hit her, it was for that woman—Fu Yue.
Even now, he wanted her heart… to save Fu Yue.
Two doctors dragged Shao Leyan blankly toward the operating table. But the terror of death can awaken hidden strength in anyone.
She didn’t know where the power came from, but she suddenly shoved aside the doctors holding her down. With a thud, she dropped to her knees, hands clasped, desperately begging Xiao Yi.
“I’m sorry, Yi!”
“It’s all my fault. I’ll apologize to you and to Fu Yue. Please don’t take my heart. I’ll really die. I’m still young… I don’t want to die.”
Seeing her kneeling and begging in such pathetic misery, Xiao Yi’s expression softened slightly.
“It’s good you know your mistakes. I’ll tell Yue about your remorse. But being able to donate your heart for my Yue—you should feel honored.”
“No! I don’t want to!”
Shao Leyan crawled away using both hands and feet, trying to escape him. But with no fingers and holes bored into her feet, her desperate attempt was useless.
A cold anesthetic pierced the back of her neck. Shao Leyan’s last hope died.
This time, Xiao Yi truly intended to take her life to save Fu Yue.
As the drug spread, her mind became sluggish. At the edge of death, a strange calm washed over her.
“Did you ever love me?”
It was a question that had tortured her for thirty years.
He was a man who would kill her for another woman—yet at social events, she fell again and again for the deep, gentle gaze he directed at her.
“Never.”
After that, everything blurred.
Death was an endless, dark void.
No more seeing her parents’ disappointment, her in-laws’ contempt, or Xiao Yi’s disgust.
Even the excruciating agony of losing her eyes and heart had vanished.
She felt nothing—except the heavy, vivid weight of memory.
Beep—beep—beep…
“System binding complete. Welcome, protagonist Shao Leyan from The Stunning CEO’s Beloved Beauty, to the Parallel Novel World Exchange Program.
You will be transferred into a novel titled Even If the World Collapses, Our Love Has No End.
We wish you a pleasant journey.”
“Friendly reminder: completing missions will earn you random rewards. Please remember to rate your handler five stars after the program, dear!”
The mechanical voice said a long string of things, but Shao Leyan only heard one phrase—protagonist.
Someone like her, whose life was utterly ruined… could be the heroine of a novel?
Then what would become of her story world after her death?
Would Xiao Yi miss her kindness? Would he spend the rest of his life remembering all the moments they shared?
Shao Leyan suddenly wanted to go back—just to take one last look.
But she was already being transported to another world.
Warmth returned to her body, sensation to her limbs.
She touched her chest—her heart was beating wildly.
She was… alive again.
Just as she was immersed in the joy of resurrection, the door behind her creaked open.
She turned toward the sound.
A harsh beam of white light pierced the darkness, outlining the silhouette of an unfamiliar man.
The return of light made Shao Leyan burst into tears.
“Why didn’t you turn on the lights?”
Le An switched them on. The room became bright as day.
Seeing her tears, Le An hurried toward her.
“D-Don’t cry! Is there something wrong with your body? Did something not heal properly?”
He circled her, checking her from head to toe.
“All the organs and limbs you were missing have been restored. Try moving. If everything feels fine, we can leave.”
Shao Leyan looked at him with pure gratitude.
“You brought me back to life, didn’t you?”
Le An scratched his head shyly.
“I heard about your past. I just felt you shouldn’t have died like that. So I gave you my slot for the exchange program. I didn’t ask your permission first—sorry!”
Shao Leyan shook her head.
“It doesn’t matter. You saved me. Whatever activity I need to participate in… I’ll cooperate.”
Le An looked at her with genuine pity and gently patted her soft hair.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let you repeat your past tragedy. I picked a top-ranked super-sweet romance for you—#1 on the Sweet Novel Chart for three years straight. Sure, the setting is an apocalypse, but I’ll protect you.”
Shao Leyan bit her lip, forcing a small smile.
“Then… will Xiao Yi be there too?”
Le An blinked in disbelief.
“You mean that beast you call a husband?”
Shao Leyan muttered defensively, “He’s not my ex-husband. We never divorced.”
“…Seriously?”
Le An was speechless.
The man literally cut out her organs for his precious ‘white moonlight,’ yet Shao Leyan was still worried about people calling him names?
Truly worthy of a tragic CEO-novel wife heroine—deeply, fatally devoted.
A shiver ran down Le An’s spine, but since he’d chosen her, he’d see it through—even if her twisted worldview gave him a headache.
“Don’t worry. He won’t be there.”
If you dropped that beast into a sweet romance, it would instantly turn into a tragedy. How would the poor heroine find happiness then?
Shao Leyan finally exhaled in relief.
She had no idea how to face Xiao Yi. She still loved him… but she simply couldn’t afford to love him anymore.
“Whenever you’re ready, we’ll depart.”
“I have nothing to prepare. Let’s go.”
Le An politely held the door for her. As Shao Leyan stepped out—
She crashed head-on into something.
Looking up, she saw a half-corroded zombie lunging at her, jaws wide open.
