Chapter 50 …
A towering height of what looked like 240 cm and a build rivaling that of an orc.
A peculiar skin tone: blue all over, streaked with red blotches here and there.
Even larger than the massive chieftains or mutant goblin warriors he had seen before, he held a gigantic double-bladed axe taller than an average human—like a butcher soaked in blood.
[You have encountered the Hidden Field Boss: ‘Goblin Great Warrior Karuk’.]
[You have successfully completed the Warrior’s Trial: ‘Invasion’.]
[The ‘Warriors’ Trial’ now progresses to the ‘Great Warrior’s Trial’.]
[The Goblin Great Warrior Trial is a ‘Bloody Battle’. Rewards vary based on performance.]
[Goblin Great Warrior Karuk]
Title: Elite Named Hidden Field Boss
Type: Goblin
Traits: Great Warrior, Physical Enhancement, Berserker
Description: A goblin warrior is a title earned only by the tribe’s strongest warriors. Among those warriors, only the strongest may attain the title of Great Warrior.
Born as a hybrid of the Red and Blue tribes, Karuk inherited the strengths of both tribes, making him a formidable warrior.
“An elite field boss…”
Predicting the strength of elites was always tricky.
Clear ranks like rare or hero were easier to gauge, but “elite” was too vague.
Still, it wasn’t completely unpredictable.
“He’s definitely stronger than a chieftain.”
Probably on an entirely different level. Being a field boss with both the elite and named tags, and having the combined strengths of two tribes, plus traits specialized in close combat—it all confirmed his power.
“He might even be stronger than the forest field boss.”
Dohyeon’s prediction was spot on.
Jihad, who had remained silent until now, finally showed tension and spoke.
“Be careful, master. Even if you ignore everything else, his strength is absurd.”
“Stronger than you?”“Khm! He’s obviously weaker than me, but among the strongest warriors, the top one is a Great Warrior. And this guy was already a Great Warrior when I first met him 150 years ago.”
In other words, no warrior stronger than him had appeared in over 150 years.
Jihad had clearly faced him before and struggled. A clash between named elites was always interesting.
“This’ll be fun.”
A warrior recognized by the forest’s ruler himself? Dohyeon’s blood boiled as he gripped his greatsword.
[Warrior Set equipped.]
[7% additional damage against Goblin-type enemies.]
[Boss rank high—‘Intimidation’ effect nullified.]
As the now-familiar notifications appeared, their eyes met.
The double-bladed axe wavered in his hands, and—
Bang!
Both leapt forward simultaneously.
Jihad shouted instinctively:
“No! Colliding head-on is dangerous, master!”
His trembling voice revealed urgency. He had faced this Great Warrior before, and even a brief encounter was enough to feel Karuk’s power.
“Kiiing-”
[Hidden Field Boss ‘Goblin Great Warrior Karuk’ uses ‘Relentless Strike’.]
Red energy gathered like dots along the double-bladed axe, quickly dyeing it crimson.
It glowed as if placed in a furnace—this was it.
“If it hits, your sword will break! Dodge!”
Relentless Strike—a skill used by Berserker-type classes.
At first glance, it was just a raw damage skill, similar to a basic smash. But it was the core technique of Berserkers.
Like Volk’s Massive Slash, Relentless Strike’s true fear lay in weapon destruction: temporarily breaking any weapon below hero grade.
This made Berserkers incredibly powerful in melee combat.
“My minions were shredded in an instant!”
Jihad’s undead were crushed like tofu. Then, Karuk slammed the ground with his double-bladed axe, splitting the earth and creating a deafening roar—something Jihad would never forget.
Even with quick reactions, casualties were inevitable. A prolonged fight would have cost Jihad heavily.
“This is suicide…”
No matter how strong his demonic master was, this was madness. A head-on clash with a juggernaut like him was impossible.
Yet, his master insisted. The event was already in motion, too late to back down.
Whoosh!
Their weapons—the greatsword and double-bladed axe—clashed with the fury of metal screaming. The size difference alone was twofold.
Jihad covered his eyes with both hands. Even peeking through his fingers, he could barely bear to watch.
“Aigoo…”
Bracing for impact, he saw the impossible: as the two weapons clashed, the greatsword’s aggression shifted.
Swish-
The blade that had charged to tear apart Karuk’s axe softened, flowing naturally, almost as if absorbing the axe’s force like Tai Chi.
“Huh…?”
Neither fast nor slow, it all flowed as if they had planned it from the start. When he regained focus, the clash was over.
Thud-
The double-bladed axe hit the ground helplessly.
“Huh?”
Karuk tilted his head. His skill had activated—but why?
He swung again, and the human stepped back effortlessly. After a few repetitions, Karuk nodded.
The earlier anomaly was confirmed: the human wasn’t weak—he was redirecting attacks perfectly.
Karuk prepared a stronger strike.
[Hidden Field Boss ‘Goblin Great Warrior’ uses ‘Mighty Smash’.]
Not as strong as Relentless Strike, but still formidable. Karuk expected to crush the human’s head.
Yet, the same thing happened.
Whish-
Like a river sweeping across the sea, the attack dispersed naturally.
“…What did I just see?”
Karuk and Jihad blinked, baffled. Dohyeon smiled faintly at the two pairs of eyes seeking answers.
“I was worried I’d lost my touch. Still got it.”
He wasn’t looking at them—he was focused on the skill window floating in midair:
[Parry]
Rank: Normal
Requirement: Swordsman Class
Description: Deflects attacks that contact your sword.
Activates only with precise timing; failure to match the timing will fail activation.Effect: Deflects attacks with perfect timing. Cannot use skills during Parry; cannot deflect unreachable or unparryable attacks.
Cooldown: 4 seconds
“Didn’t expect you to come through.”
The secret behind all this: the swordsman’s only guard skill, a skill called Parry.
Parry—literally “deflect”—is exclusive to swordsmen. Even legendary skills can be parried if conditions are met. Short cooldown makes it almost overpowered.
Tank classes have Royal Guard; swordsmen have Parry.
“Problem is, no one uses it.”
Because it’s ridiculously hard to succeed. Must be contacted, must activate at exact timing—a near-impossible standard.
Even top players only succeeded once in five attempts. In chaotic boss raids or PvP, success was pure luck. That’s why low-level players trying Parry often got destroyed.
“Never party with a Parry user. Seriously.”
“Damn… Parry is garbage. Where did you even learn it? Don’t copy that in raids.”
“That’s why they call it a troll generator.”
Parry was despised. Low-level swordsmen using it? Mental health risk.
High-level swordsmen? Still mostly ignored it.
“No need to risk it if it isn’t guaranteed.”
“Badly designed skill. Not normal skill.”
“If you choose it blindly, you’ll die and get penalized. Advice.”
Even if geniuses mastered it, it wasn’t guaranteed. Five attempts for one success, still a skill worth using carefully.
Exceptions existed:
“If you’re Kaiser, acceptable.”
“That guy isn’t human—he tanks as a dealer, and succeeds every Parry.”
Kaiser’s prowess came from Parry, allowing him to tank even as a DPS.
[Hidden Field Boss ‘Goblin Great Warrior Karuk’ uses ‘Mighty Smash’.]
[Skill ‘Parry’ successful!]
[Attack deflected.]
“That’s the taste of it.”
Even attacks that seemed impossible to avoid could be nullified by Parry.
[Hidden Field Boss ‘Goblin Great Warrior Karuk’ uses ‘Rampaging Fury’.]
[Skill ‘Parry’ successful!]
[Attack deflected.]
“No way…”
Parry could even deflect combo skills. Timing had to be exact—matching the initial attack frame.
Bang—swish-
[‘Parry’ successful!]
[Attack deflected.]
“He actually deflected that? Master… really human? Not a demon talent, actual demon maybe?”
Even standard attacks could be redirected. Must be contacted, exact timing per skill/pattern—varied for each skill. Even top-tier players often failed.
“Why can’t they do this?”
For Kaiser, Parry was effortless.
