Chapter – 63

An Interesting Event

“I heard they’re handing out hamburgers over there.”

Saying that, Yayoi walked in.

“I bought them for lunch — want one?”

“I do! I’ve had a lot of erasing work today and couldn’t leave my post… I’m starving.”

Mukai laughed and handed her a bag.

“If you want a prize too, you can take one.”

“Ahh, this thing.
Meiou and Makino-kun were making a fuss about it…
Ohh, it’s that manga.
I want one too — it’s really good.
Hmm, which one should I pick?”

She chose and picked up the red Sacred Grandma.

“Yayoi-chan, are you a Grandma fan?”

“Yeah. She’s cool. I’ve never seen an old lady like her.”

As Yayoi laughed, Enato looked at her hands.

“Did you make that yourself?”

She was wearing a wire-art ring.

“Oh, this? Yeah — it’s my hobby.”

“It’s beautiful. Is that a natural stone?”

Mukai also examined the finely woven ring with admiration.

“You know I used to work at a library?
There was a wire-art book there, and once I started as a hobby, I got hooked.”

“You can make something this amazing as a hobby?”

Arton came over and stared at the ring.

“It takes time to learn, but you can use any stone you like. It’s fun.
I even used to sell them.”

“You sold them? That’s practically professional,” Enato exclaimed.

“It’s nothing that special.
There was a monthly handmade outdoor event on the street in front of the library, and I sold them there.
If they sold, I could buy new materials and make more.”

“I see…”
Mukai nodded, impressed.

“Well then, I’ll eat with everyone.”

Smiling, Yayoi walked toward Adachi and Saki.

“Adachi-kun, you collected them all? Amazing.”

Looking at the keychains he held, she called out to him.

“To think I’d get to see Adachi-kun make that kind of face… I’m deeply moved.”

Meiou suddenly appeared beside them, startling Mukai and the others.

“Please don’t sneak up on us!”

“…………”

Seeing Meiou looking dejected, Enato spoke up.

“Did something happen?”

“Tadokoro-kun and Sakuma-kun both said they’ll give their keychains to Makino-kun.”

“Well, kids get priority, after all,” Arton laughed.

“Makino-kun is not a child.”

“You’re way more of an adult than Makino-kun.
There are still people who haven’t come to get burgers — why not ask them?”

“I’ll do that.
If Makino-kun completes the set before me, I’ll regret it.”

Then he added:

“Earlier, Yayoi-chan said she used to sell rings, right?”

“She did.”

“I’ve thought of something good.”

This better not be something weird again…
Mukai eyed Meiou suspiciously.

“Everyone’s making various things in the workshop, right?
What if we sell them at an event?
We’ll call it—
Operation: Earn Cash in the Human World Flea Market with Underworld Creations!

“And who’s supposed to do that?” asked Mukai.

“Obviously, Mukai-kun.”

“No way. Please don’t increase my workload any more.”

“Come on, let’s do it! I want to sell what I made too — sounds fun!”

“Stuff made by the Dark Lord… that’d be premium?” Enato laughed.

While they were talking—

“I brought Shedem.”

Makino arrived, pulling Shedem by the hand.

“Makino caught me just now and told me to come get a hamburger, so I came.”

Then she took one.

“Ahh, smells good. I was hungry.”

“Shedem said she didn’t want one, so I took Tadokoro and Sakuma’s too — now I’ve got four types! Just two more and I’ll have the full set!”

Makino looked triumphantly at Meiou.

“If Shedem was going to give it to Makino-kun anyway, she could’ve given it to me…”

Meiou muttered sulkily.

“You wanted this, Meiou? If you told me earlier, I would’ve given it to you.”

With that, Shedem returned to work holding her burger.

“I’m supposed to be the highest authority here, yet everyone treats me coldly.”

“Maybe it’s a popularity problem,” Makino said, walking to the sofa with his burger.

“D-Don’t worry, Meiou. Everyone likes you.
Well then, I’ll get back to work.”

Enato hurried out with his burger.

Arton watched and burst into laughter.

Just then, an elf walked in.

“I heard there were hamburgers.”

“There are. Help yourself.”

“Thanks. Oh, zombie boy — can I take this too?”

“Sure.”

“So the elf gets one…” Meiou muttered.

“This is really fun. I like it.”

The elf left happily, swinging the keychain.

“Why don’t you sit here and eat your burger, Meiou?
Someone might give you one eventually.”

Mukai said with a smile as he handed him a burger.

Underworld Lord of the Underworld vs. Humans: The War of Spirits Begins Now

『アンダーワールド』冥王VS人間~魑魅魍魎の戦が今始まる~
Score 10.0
Status: Ongoing Type: Author: Released: 2024 Native Language: Japanese

This story depicts the everyday life of the Underworld as it clashes with the human world — a nation ruled through human sacrifices.

Even the Underworld earns money through markets and gathers funds for living together with yokai and ghost writers.

They exorcise evil spirits in the human world for no pay, and the later part of the story follows what happens after divine punishment begins to fall upon humans who commit deicide.
Some of this continuation is touched upon in the side stories, so please give them a read as well.

This is a world teeming with the Underworld, shinigami (death gods), humans, ghosts, and yokai...

The nation within the story is covered in evil spirits born from people’s negative emotions.
Special agents belonging to the Underworld continue to work for the sake of these people — even after death.

From natural disasters caused by earthquakes to various rituals, the story does contain some intense scenes midway through.
However, aside from those, the overall tone is that of a gentle, slow-life story set in the Underworld.

The main story is complete, though the emotional issues of the citizens leave the fate of the nation unresolved.

With the introduction of adorable little yokai, the story also portrays adults getting wrapped up in the antics of children, so even ritual scenes are depicted in a soft, approachable way.

The first arc mainly focuses on introducing the protagonists.
The plot starts to delve into the core of the story from the second arc onward.
A major storyline concludes in the eighth arc, and from the ninth arc, a new battle begins.

This is not a revenge story, a noble/aristocratic drama, or a romance — so if that’s what you’re looking for, this might not be the right fit.

I’d be delighted if you could spare a little of your precious time to read this as a modern fantasy.

This story is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to real people, organizations, or places is purely coincidental.
