Chapter – 65
“Teacher Qin, can I drink the lemonade?” Bai Wenxi felt she should take the water for her movie-queen employer. After all, emotions during jealousy are irrational — if she really scared away a certain ‘second baby’, someone would regret it.
Qin Shiyue handed the lemonade to Bai Wenxi. She thought Manager Bai was a little angel, unlike Lin Qingyi — a woman she found annoying. She decided she would continue to dislike Lin Qingyi in the future, even more than before. Always acting close to you one moment, then turning cold the next.
“Teacher Lin, are you free tonight? I’d like to invite you to dinner.” Kong Huizhi knew she had already lost the initiative, but she still wanted one final try — she didn’t want to leave herself any regrets.
Qin Shiyue’s heart skipped. She had a feeling Kong Huizhi wanted to confess to Lin Qingyi. Would Lin Qingyi accept? Qin Shiyue felt nervous inside — was it because of her ex-wife, or because of Lin Qingyi? She could no longer tell. Or maybe she could, but didn’t dare to.
So Qin Shiyue looked toward Lin Qingyi. She cared very much about Lin Qingyi’s answer.
Lin Qingyi saw Qin Shiyue’s excessive tension and felt even worse. Was this stupid vase still nervous over her ex-wife? Originally planning to refuse, Lin Qingyi suddenly changed her mind.
“I’m free at seven tonight.” Lin Qingyi accepted the invitation.
Since she had already guessed Kong Huizhi wanted to confess, how could Lin Qingyi not know? Did accepting mean she was interested too? Thinking of this, Qin Shiyue felt her heart turn to ashes. But they were both single — even if they liked each other, it was normal. Why should she care? What right did she have?
“Then I wish you a pleasant dinner!” Qin Shiyue squeezed the words out through her teeth and turned away from the set. She didn’t want to see those two shameless women. Even if they got together, even if it wasn’t illegal, in her eyes they were still detestable — she would never bless them.
Leaving the filming set, Qin Shiyue felt as if her energy had been drained. She was listless and uninterested in everything.
Fang Xinhua hesitated whether to tell the “second baby” that Lin Qingyi hadn’t actually drunk Kong Huizhi’s drink. But the dinner invitation was real. She decided not to tell her for now — she would wait to see what happened tonight.
“I’ll continue filming.” With Qin Shiyue gone, Lin Qingyi also lost interest in talking to Kong Huizhi.
“Please go ahead,” Kong Huizhi said considerately. She could feel that once the ex-wife left, the goddess instantly became colder toward her. She already seemed to know how tonight would end, and sighed.
“Sister Fang, do you think Lin Qingyi likes Kong Huizhi too? Otherwise we’re clearly closer — why did she choose Kong Huizhi’s drink? And… is she gay?”
If Lin Qingyi liked Kong Huizhi, why did she choose to dance with her at the ball? She’d never mentioned her ex-wife before, and she said she was straight. So Qin Shiyue always thought the ex-wife was just a stranger to Lin Qingyi — and Lin Qingyi didn’t act close to Kong Huizhi either.
“It’s just a drink, don’t overthink it. Miss Kong and the movie queen don’t seem to interact much, yet she likes her — that’s strange. Could they have known each other long ago?” Fang Xinhua guessed. Kong Huizhi wasn’t a fan, so it was very possible.
Qin Shiyue realized she’d never considered that. She remembered discovering Kong Huizhi’s feelings about half a year ago, when she accidentally saw an old photo of Lin Qingyi in her wallet. At first she thought her ex-wife was just a fan. Later she noticed she often watched Lin Qingyi’s movies and lingered on her posters — then Qin Shiyue realized it was admiration, the kind for a goddess.
From then on, she began treating Lin Qingyi as a love rival. Because she was married, Kong Huizhi never actually approached Lin Qingyi, so Qin Shiyue had nothing to accuse her of. Since she and Lin Qingyi rarely interacted, her hostility stayed hidden.
Then she remembered — three or four months ago they had shared a stage. Lin Qingyi had reached out to hold her hand, but she deliberately lifted her dress to avoid it, making Lin Qingyi awkwardly withdraw.
Thinking of this now, Qin Shiyue felt guilty. Still, she thought, who would want to hold hands with their wife’s “white moonlight”? But from Lin Qingyi’s perspective, she was innocent — she had done nothing.
But that wasn’t the point. The point was — did Lin Qingyi and Kong Huizhi really know each other long ago? The thought made her feel worse. They seemed to share a past she couldn’t join.
So Qin Shiyue became even more dejected, yet couldn’t stop wondering: Did Kong Huizhi confess? Would Lin Qingyi accept?
After the meal began, Kong Huizhi spoke first:
“I’ve always wanted to thank you in person, Teacher Lin — thank you for the umbrella that day.”
“I just happened to see someone in the rain, and happened to have an extra umbrella. Just coincidence.” Lin Qingyi replied calmly. To her, it was a trivial moment — even if it hadn’t been Kong Huizhi, she would’ve done the same. To Lin Qingyi, Kong Huizhi wasn’t much different from a stranger, so she didn’t understand why she remembered it so deeply.
