Chapter 36

I wanted to know that too.

Why did he try to kill me?

In this novel, the only people who wanted to kill me were the Helderios twins, who had come back to take revenge on the villainess, Iveliana. There were no enemies for Kae, a commoner orphan. I had lived a good life.

What benefit could there possibly be in killing a weak, ordinary healer like me…?

“Let’s think about that later. How about staying somewhere else tonight?”

Davien said, looking around the living room. With bloodstains and the smell of burning everywhere, it wasn’t a place to spend the night.

“That’s true.”

I nodded at her words, when suddenly—

—Ah… this is too much. I used too much power.

Zard’s voice echoed again. No sooner had his words ended than a light began to shine so brightly from a corner of the room that I couldn’t even open my eyes. As the light slowly faded, Zard appeared in the middle of the living room, exactly as I had seen him in the streets before—standing there, expressionless.

“Oh? Looks like I need to hear this story.”

Davien quickly drew her sword and glared at Zard. Lloyd, observing the situation, suddenly scooped me up into his arms.

“What… what is this…?”

Then he kicked the nearby window with his foot, smashing it into pieces.

“My—my window!”

But Lloyd ignored my shout, climbed onto the broken frame, and looked around. This was seven stories up…? He glanced around, spotted the roof of the next building, and holding me tightly, jumped outside.

“Wait! What about Davien? Aren’t we supposed to go together?”

I shouted to Lloyd, watching our building get smaller.

“Davien is much stronger than me.”

Lloyd landed lightly on the neighboring rooftop and put me down. From the rooftop, I could see Davien confronting Zard through the broken window of my building.

Lloyd, standing still and watching Davien, opened a pocket dimension. He pulled out a black bastard sword with electric currents crackling along it and hurled it with great force at my apartment building.

The sword slammed into the wall with a loud crack. Black sparks sizzled from it, forming a transparent barrier of black energy around the building.

“Davien, the barrier is up.”

Lloyd whispered softly, barely audible. At that moment, I saw Davien casting magic at Zard. Powerful flames and crackling electricity erupted throughout the room.

Yet Zard showed no reaction to all of it.

“What? Is Zard even human? A zombie? Undead? Some kind of monster?”

“No, he’s not a monster. His body, with even the heart and brain burned, was resurrected. Not even a dragon lord could do that.”

“Then what is he?”

“Not sure.”

Lloyd shook his head, also unsure.

Zard, who had silently endured all the magic attacks, suddenly vanished and reappeared behind Davien. A white light formed in his hand and struck Davien’s stomach.

“Davien!”

She coughed and fell to the ground, spilling dark red blood. Her face twisted in pain, blood streaming from her nose and mouth.

“Davien!”

I shouted in shock, but she couldn’t hear me. She clenched her fists and twisted in pain, unable to get up.

Lloyd stood silently, murmuring quietly, as if nothing had happened.

“He’s using divine power. Davien.”

I had seen heartless, cruel people before, but this… Could I just stand by while my sister was dying? I had to help Davien. But my healing wand was back in my room, at least five meters away. To cast long-range healing magic, I would need a magic circle drawn with my blood. I had no choice but to bite my finger and draw it.

Just as I was about to bite my finger hard—

“Stop.”

Lloyd’s huge hand grabbed mine.

“I told you never to do that again.”

“Now isn’t the time! Davien is dying!”

I shouted, ignoring Lloyd’s hard expression, when a familiar voice came close to my ear.

“Calculation complete!”

Davien’s voice? Right next to me?

I turned in surprise. Standing beside me was Davien, perfectly unharmed.

“Two Daviens…?”

There was the one inside the window, and now one next to me. What was going on?

Davien ignored my stunned look. She quietly muttered a spell, looked up at the sky, and shouted,

“Meteor!”

At that moment, fast-moving dark clouds gathered in the sky above the bright moon.

The moonlight was blocked, the night sky darkened, and strong winds whipped as if a typhoon had struck. Tremors shook the buildings like an earthquake.

But Zard, inside the window, continued attacking the fallen Davien without hesitation.

Watching her near death, she muttered,

“Shining stars of the sky, mighty force falling from space to earth! Lend me your power! Meteor!”

As she chanted, a meteor appeared in the sky, growing larger as it descended.

Wait… this isn’t a transparent dragon from the novel, right?

The scale was overwhelming. My mind was in chaos.

Crazy! She summoned a meteor just to take down that one guy? Is she trying to kill us all?

The shaking grew stronger, the heat so intense I could barely open my eyes.

Then, boom! A deafening sound stopped the tremors.

When I opened my eyes, the bright moon hung alone in the sky again, and my house…

“Gone…?”

The building I lived in was completely gone. Cleanly erased.

People nearby, startled by the noise and tremors, poured into the streets. The area was full of curious onlookers.

“Uh… Davien, Lloyd. My house is gone?”

White smoke rose where the building had been.

“And that strange guy is gone too. Good thing, right? Anyone inside that barrier, hit directly by a meteor, wouldn’t survive—even gods wouldn’t.”

Davien smiled.

I forced a smile too, thinking, Never mess with Davien. This girl is terrifying.

Then I suddenly stopped smiling.

“Wait! What about the people who lived in that building?”

Lloyd calmly replied to my panicked voice.

“Actually, from the moment we entered, there was no life detected in the building. No signs anyone lived there either.”

Strange. I remembered the young newlyweds downstairs, the shy young knight, the other neighbors, all on the missing list.

“What about all my savings in that house? What happened to them?”

Davien’s expression hardened slightly.

“All… gone, right?”

All the money I had saved since becoming an adult, gold bars under the bed, 100 gold from Lloyd, even the deed from the Helderios family—all vanished in a single meteor strike.

“Hah…?”

In one meteor strike, I had become completely broke.

Davien stood before the emerald room, ready to knock, then sighed.

How many days has it been now?

Kae had lost everyone she knew, her house, and her entire fortune in an instant. No wonder she was in shock.

It was natural that Kae held the twins’ hands. Without them, she would have ended up on the streets.

In less than 24 hours, Kae returned from Zeronia to Helderios, and seeing the happy dukes made her smile bitterly.

Entering her room, she had barely eaten for a week, crying silently under the covers.

Davien could understand. She knew the despair of losing family and house, of surviving alone after her clan was wiped out by Iveliana before her heart was even ripped out.

But seeing Kae withering in sorrow, Davien feared she might fall into endless depression.

I hope she doesn’t do anything extreme.

Lloyd thought the same.

The twins huddled together, thinking of ways to cheer her up. For them, cheering a sad person up was harder than rushing into a battlefield without weapons.

Lloyd was the first to approach Kae.

He remembered how happy she had been with a small pouch of gold, so he brought a huge box full of gold. Surely seeing this would cheer her up, right?

But Kae just stared at the glittering gold, unmoved. The box was returned to Lloyd. Total failure.

Synopsis

I possessed the body of the villainess from my favorite novel.
And not just any villainess—the terrifying one who brings about the destruction of the world!

“My favorite was the protagonist, you know?!”

After possessing a regression-and-revenge novel, what’s the first thing you should do?
Improve your relationship with the protagonist?

But what if the protagonist has already regressed?

‘Why did I have to possess her at this point in time?!’

Instead of improving relations, I’m about to be stabbed to death by my favorite character at our very first meeting.
If that’s the case, there’s only one option left—run away before being adopted by the ducal family!

I managed to survive for eight years in a temple while hiding from the duke’s household,
but while working as an imperial healer, I ended up running into the protagonist’s older brother.

“I still remember it clearly.
My mansion burning along with my retainers,
my parents dying in agony after being poisoned,
and me, dying with my heart torn out.”

Behind me was a wall. A massive fortress wall.
With nowhere left to run, I barely managed to open my trembling lips.

“P-Please… spare me…”

For a brief moment, Lloyd’s expression subtly changed.
