~ Special Side Story 1 ~
Tap. Tap.
Kal walked down the corridor.
Before long, a familiar bedroom door came into view.
When he went inside, the pure white bed sheetsâunusual for this roomâwere messily scattered.
The room was quiet. There was no sign of the servants.
In the silenceâ
Soft, steady breathing could be heard.
The moment he realized whose breathing it was, his shoulders stiffened.
âMmâŚâ
Perhaps sensing someone, the person sleeping turned over.
Slideâ
The sheets slipped down, fully revealing a smooth, bare shoulder.
âWait. Waitâjust a second.â
Khalid froze as if struck by an arrow.
âKalâŚ? Youâre back already?â
Her voice was low and heavy with sleep.
âAh⌠I canât move my body at allâŚâ
Lying with her back turned, the woman only flailed her arm weakly.
That made the sheet slide even lower, clearly revealing her pale back.
âNo, no, seriouslyâtime out.â
Kalâs vision spun.
âRight now⌠sheâs not wearing any clothesâŚ?â
Is she completely naked?
And more than thatâ
Those persistent marks carved into her smooth backâŚ
The instant he understood, it felt like scorching lava was poured over his head.
He clenched his teeth so hard his jaw ached.
âDamn it, time-warp device.â
He had asked to see a future where he married Rubian safelyâŚ
âWho asked to see this kind of scene?!â
He thought it would be something like walking hand in hand into the wedding hall at most.
He never imagined something this intenseâŚ
âIâm not eating breakfast⌠Iâll just⌠sleep a little more. Blanket⌠blanket, pleaseâŚâ
Rubian murmured in a faint, hoarse voice.
Kal panickedâbut still shut his eyes tightly and moved out of habit.
He sharpened his senses to the extreme, wrapping the blanket with utmost care so his hand would not touch her bare skin.
Swishârustle.
A single large cocoon lay on the bed.
Kal barely cracked his eyes open and let out a deep sigh.
Her side profile, already fast asleep again, came into view.
She looked paleâlike someone whose soul had been thoroughly drained.
âYou crazy bastard.â
Just how much did you torment her?
âDo you have no self-control?â
Or⌠was it so overwhelming that you forgot restraint entirely?
âYouâre not some damn beast.â
He scrubbed his face dry, freely cursing his future self.
Tap. Tap.
Then, footsteps approached from outside.
It was probably this timelineâs Khalid returning.
Kal hurriedly activated his mana.
The stimulation was already too muchâhe had no intention of staying longer anyway.
Click.
When the âfutureâ Khalid opened the bedroom doorâ
ââŚâŚâ
There was no one inside.
Loosely dressed in a robe, he placed the breakfast tray on the table.
His eyes landed on the large cocoon resting neatly on the bed.
A weak, breathless chuckle slipped out.
Ah⌠so it was around this time.
A very faint memory surfaced. Not that it mattered anymore.
âRuby, Iâm back.â
âMmnnâŚâŚâ
Smack, smack.
Kal showered kisses over her round shoulder without pause.
His beautiful but slightly wicked fingers slipped under the blanket without hesitation.
Her body twitched at the memory of last nightâs excess, but even that was adorable.
âLetâs eat something.â
ââŚI said Iâm sleeeepingâŚâ
âOkay, eat and then sleep. Youâve gotten skinny again.â
Rubian suddenly choked up.
âWhen I eat, youâllâŚ! Again! Again!â
âAgain⌠what?â
That fox-like faceâknowing everything yet pretending not toâwas utterly shameless.
Staring at his dazzlingly handsome face, practically glowing, Rubian burst out:
âI want to return you!â
Khalid chuckled, kissing the back of her neck as she teared up.
âSorry. I didnât know I had that little self-control⌠though, to be fair, the one clinging to me at dawn was definitely youââ
âLetâs cut ties for a while. Youâre clearly bad for my health.â
âNope. Canât. Do you know how hard it was for me to get this far?â
âAh⌠right.â
Rubian muttered like she understood.
âYou almost couldnât even marry me after throwing an engagement party.â
At that moment, Khalidâs gaze changed.
âWhen I think about it now, itâs amazing that all that even happened.â
ââŚâŚâ
âWe even set the wedding date, and then suddenlyâhusband with amnesia? What kind of nonsense is that~â
Rubian sighed, her complaints continuing as she thought about it.
âSeriously⌠telling me not to touch you, telling me not to marry you, blah blahâmph!â
Kal, flustered, kissed her lips.
âPlease. Letâs forget that terrible past.â
âWell? Unlike you, I have a good memoryâhey! Stop kissing!â
âIf I donât kiss my wife, what should I do then?â
Kal, now relaxed again, sat beside the bed, pulled Rubian into his arms, and started openly flirting.
âNggh. Letâs really cut ties for just one day. My wish. Or even just thirty minutesâŚâ
âNope. I already said no.â
He smiled lazily, rubbing the wedding ring on her finger.
âIf you chose me as your husband, you have to take responsibility to the end, Rubian. Forgot our vows?â
âHng. Back then, if I said that, youâd at least sulk cutelyâŚâ
âThat was when I was an ignorant rookie.â
âHuuuungâŚâŚâ
Kal fell silent for a moment, then carefully asked:
ââŚSo, am I not cute anymore?â
Rubian glanced at him shyly.
She pretended to dislike it, but honestly, she loved sharing warmth with him like this.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she whispered:
âYouâre suuuper cuuuuteâŚâŚ.â
It was the everyday life of a happy newlywed couple.
âDamn⌠my heart almost exploded.â
Meanwhile, present-day Kal (the rookie) used the time-warp device to move to the next scene.
He had actually planned to end the time warp there, but maybe because he was too shakenâ
He accidentally jumped to another future point.
And there, Kal saw it.
âKyaaah!â
âBwaaah!â
Two squirrels clinging to Rubian.
âBaby? Ptoo! Spit it out! Hairâhair is not food!â
Though he only saw it roughly from outside the windowâ
âWhat the hellâŚ?â
Did he just get his life spoiled against his will
Khalid returned to reality in utter confusion.
It had been an excessively stimulating trip.
And maybe because of thatâ
He suffered some aftereffects from the time-warp journey.
âKal!â
Whenever Rubian tried to hug him or initiate skinshipâ
ââŚWait. Ruby.â
âEek! Whatâs with this iron wall?!â
âIâuhâIâm in a bit of a difficult situation right now.â
The future scenes flashed through his mind, making his body heat up.
âSo⌠Iâm really hot right nowâŚâ
âItâs a cold wave outside?â
âIâm in a heat wave.â
ââŚ?â
âIâll go run around the training groundsâŚâ
His entire body flushed red, he ran around like a madman and destroyed about five thousand straw dummies.
But, well.
They say time heals all things.
As his body grew sturdier day by day, the memories slowly faded too.
Most of all, what Rubian said snapped him back to his senses.
âThereâs no guarantee that the future you saw with the time-warp device will actually happen.â
ââŚHuh?â
âWell⌠think about it. Say thereâs a future where you and I drink coffee together. But if I suddenly change my mind now and order tea insteadâthen that coffee future wonât happen, right?â
ââŚâŚâ
âIn short, the future is a fragile bundle of variables that can change with the tiniest trigger.â
ââŚâŚâ
âSo seeing the future with a time-warp device doesnât really mean much. It just wastes mana.â
âAh.â
ââŚUm, but why did you suddenly ask about this?â
ââŚItâs nothing.â
Kal decided to treat it as just a very realistic, perverted dream.
And instead of relying on an uncertain future, he chose to promise to keep Rubian by his side foreverâas soon as possible.
And so, on a bright, clear dayâ
With his heart feeling like it would burst out of his chest, Khalid proposed to Rubian.
âOkay!â
The bright smile Rubian showed him thenâ
Was truly a moment of bliss that would never come twice in the world.
That autumn, they held a party to celebrate their engagement.
Rubian had intended it to be a small gathering, but Rosetta and Balrogâs âletâs add moreâ disease turned it into a massive event.
Following Rosettaâs opinion that weddings need plenty of preparation time, they decided to hold it the next autumn.
Inviting dignitaries from the Magic Kingdom to the Casalia Kingdom required a lot of preparation, apparently.
To Kal, though, it just sounded like a motherâs excuse to keep her daughter close a little longer.
Time passed peacefully.
Kal almost never thought about the future scenes anymore.
The âpresentâ with Rubian was simply too sweetâand stimulating in every wayâso the memories faded on their own.
Thankfully.
It was good that he forgot.
Of courseâŚ
âAre you okay?â
ââŚâŚâ
ââŚK-Kal? Why are your eyes like that?â
âMy bodyâŚâ
ââŚâŚ?â
âIâd really appreciate it if you didnât touch it.â
Not just thatâ
He forgot a bit too much, which became a problem.
So, what exactly happened to him wasâ
To be continued.
