Chapter – 58
“Xiao Qin is really smart—Teacher Lin really is a Virgo,” Bai Wenxi said, not expecting Qin Shiye to instantly guess Teacher Lin’s zodiac sign.
“Lin Qingyi, you’re really full of yourself, hiring a manager who shares your zodiac sign,” Qin Shiye bluntly teased.
Lin Qingyi raised an eyebrow. This “flower vase” has been getting bolder around her lately. Before, he would at least call her “sister” with feigned politeness, or at worst “Teacher Lin.” Now he was calling her by her full name and openly mocking her in front of others. That was definitely asking for a lesson.
Bai Wenxi was even more surprised by Qin Shiye. During her audition, the first question Teacher Lin asked was her zodiac sign. Later she realized she shared the same zodiac sign as Teacher Lin. Previously, she had only thought that being Virgos together meant they were detail-oriented and perfectionist, so they worked well together. She had never considered that Teacher Lin might just be self-obsessed, enjoying a “mirror effect.”
It really surprised her that Qin Shiye, though so naive, seemed to see through Teacher Lin quite accurately.
And openly mocking Teacher Lin was a big taboo—anyone else would have faced her wrath—but Qin Shiye seemed to know exactly how far he could push.
Bai Wenxi felt that Qin Shiye had a natural talent for gauging Teacher Lin. Even without knowing his importance in Lin’s eyes, he already acted so cocky. She imagined what would happen if he actually knew—it would be wild. She couldn’t help but feel a little excited at the thought.
Fang Xinhua thought that Qin Shiye truly didn’t regard the “Shadow Actress” as an outsider. She quietly observed Lin Qingyi’s expression. There was a faint smile—she didn’t seem offended. This lack of politeness from Qin Shiye was probably allowed by Lin herself.
“Is it true that Pisces and Virgo are very compatible?” Fang Xinhua asked Bai Wenxi.
“Yes, they’re considered the official pairing,” Bai Wenxi nodded.
“My little one is a Pisces,” Fang Xinhua said casually.
Bai Wenxi silently gave her a thumbs-up in her mind—what a brilliant assist.
Qin Shiye had never cared about all this zodiac nonsense before. But when he heard that he and Lin Qingyi were considered an official pairing, he felt a twinge of embarrassment. Him paired with Lin Qingyi? Ridiculous! But… he couldn’t help feeling a little pleased deep down.
“That’s nonsense! How could I possibly match with her?” Qin Shiye protested, trying to act indifferent, but the faint shyness made him inexplicably adorable and proud.
Fang Xinhua and Bai Wenxi exchanged knowing smiles. With two Virgos present, Qin Shiye could only imagine pairing with Lin Qingyi, proving that women always speak with a little contradiction in their hearts.
“Not really compatible. You match me, but… just a little off,” Lin Qingyi said coolly.
Qin Shiye was instantly annoyed. Sure, he might not be a perfect match for her, but did she have to be so obvious about her disdain? This woman was the one he hated the most—no exceptions.
“I’m a genuine, top-tier, white-rich-beautiful, how could I possibly not match a narcissistic garlic like you? Is it looks? Family background?” Qin Shiye said, trying to preserve his dignity.
“Your acting doesn’t match,” Lin Qingyi delivered the killer line.
Ouch. That cut too deep. Qin Shiye’s pretentious bravado instantly deflated—he couldn’t argue with that.
He glared at Lin Qingyi and finally gave up, surrendering gracefully.
Lin Qingyi glanced back at Qin Shiye and couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile. She was in a good mood. Who else would dare openly mock her narcissism and still be considered a garlic? Not compatible? Please, she was more than a match for him.
Bai Wenxi thought: Is it really okay for Teacher Lin to bully her almost-husband like this?
“By the way, what’s Fang Jie’s zodiac sign?” Bai Wenxi asked the only person whose sign she hadn’t known yet. Good social etiquette meant paying attention to everyone, and she was just a little curious.
Fang Xinhua sighed. Bai Wenxi was thoughtful, but she was low-key and disliked being the subject of discussion—even about something as trivial as zodiac signs.
“Fang Jie is a Taurus,” Qin Shiye quickly answered for her.
“Virgo and Taurus are also very compatible,” Lin Qingyi added lightly.
Now both Fang Xinhua and Bai Wenxi felt awkward. Indeed, Lin Qingyi was not someone to mess with—she truly understood social reciprocity.
“Oh, so Director Lin studies zodiac signs too. But they can’t be trusted. I’m straight, even though I’m divorced. Bai Jingjing, you straight or…?” Qin Shiye asked curiously.
“I’m straight too,” Bai Wenxi replied. Having dated a boyfriend in college, she figured her orientation was straight.
“See? I told you zodiac signs aren’t accurate,” Qin Shiye said smugly.
“Everyone’s just talking casually, but Xiao Qin seems to take it seriously,” Lin Qingyi said with a smile.
Qin Shiye was speechless again. He felt like he lost another round.
In the afternoon, everyone had their own scenes, so they just had a simple home-cooked meal together.
“When acting opposite the male lead, if you can’t get into character, just imagine he’s me. Recall how you reacted with me last night,” Lin Qingyi reminded Qin Shiye before they parted ways.
“Okay,” Qin Shiye nodded, though she still felt unsure.
Easier said than done.
Back on set, Qin Shiye acted naturally with others, just being herself. Filming went smoothly, and she even finished the Song Chengmu scenes ahead of schedule—a first since filming began.
Seeing there was still time, Song Chengmu added another scene for the male and female leads.
This was a scene she hadn’t acted out with Lin Qingyi the night before. She had no idea how to feel, how to react—imagining the male lead as Lin Qingyi was nearly impossible.
