Chapter – 49
Qin Shiye saw the two agents return and felt as if they had rescued the battlefield after a defeat. This matter was now settled, and she could finally lift her spirits.
“How come you were gone so long?” Qin Shiye asked casually. Actually, she didn’t really know if it had been long, but after admitting defeat, it felt long.
“It’s all Bai’s fault. As soon as I stepped out, she settled all the bills,” Fang Xinhua informed Qin Shiye.
Qin Shiye felt a little annoyed upon hearing this.
“You’re so annoying. I’m treating, and you let someone else pay?” Qin Shiye shot a slightly exasperated look at Lin Qingyi.
“I’ll treat this time. You owe me, Xiao Qin, and next time I’ll make sure to treat you to something even more expensive and better,” Lin Qingyi said with a smile.
So she thought this meal wasn’t high-end enough?
“Alright then.” Qin Shiye was instantly appeased.

Chapter 31
Qin Shiye noticed that with the two agents present, Lin Qingyi seemed much more normal—completely different from her earlier reckless, take-charge-on-the-road self. In front of others, she could really put on an act, showing an elegant, high-class goddess aura.
It was like two different personas—no, probably more than two—seamlessly switching performances with no trace. Qin Shiye watched secretly and grumbled internally: Which one is real? A fake!
For Lin Qingyi, this dinner had been quite enjoyable; she spent the whole evening in a good mood.
After eating and drinking their fill, it was time to get down to business.
To prevent being photographed by paparazzi, they didn’t leave together. Lin Qingyi and Bai Wenxi returned to the hotel first, and ten minutes later, Qin Shiye and Fang Xinhua arrived.
This time, the front desk took them straight to the elevator.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Bai Wenxi was already waiting at the entrance. She led them into Lin Qingyi’s presidential suite.
“Teacher Lin is still showering. It should take another ten minutes or so. You can wait here. This is the revised script—feel free to take a look and see if there are any issues,” Bai Wenxi handed Qin Shiye and Fang Xinhua each a copy of the updated script.
While Qin Shiye and Fang Xinhua focused on reading, Bai Wenxi went to cut a plate of fruit.
“Did you cut this? Or did the hotel chef specially prepare it?” Qin Shiye and Fang Xinhua were stunned by the fruit plate, arranged like a phoenix. Was this going to a cooking competition? The fruit phoenix looked so lifelike, like professional carving—it seemed almost sacrilegious to eat it.
“I cut it myself,” Bai Wenxi said proudly. Her family was said to have a history of royal chefs. Though unverified, it was true her ancestors were chefs. Her grandfather, father, older brother, and younger brother were all chefs. She herself had studied cooking for a while but lacked the strength; although her learning was excellent, she decided at fifteen that being a chef wasn’t for her and chose literature instead. While her culinary skills were far behind her male relatives, she could still manage carving.
“Agent Bai is amazing!” Qin Shiye exclaimed.
Fang Xinhua was also surprised that Bai Wenxi had such a skill.
“Doesn’t this take too much time?” Fang Xinhua was efficiency-minded. No matter how pretty the fruit looked, it was still just fruit to eat.
“Teacher Lin thinks it looks nice and more appetizing,” Bai Wenxi explained. The truth was, it was a hassle—her boss was simply difficult to please.
“This woman must be picky. She even has a phoenix carved out of fruit. Does she really think she’s a phoenix?” Qin Shiye said with disdain, though she wasn’t surprised by Lin Qingyi’s nitpicking.
“Someone’s tongue seems particularly long, always saying bad things about people behind their backs.” Lin Qingyi, just out of the shower, overheard someone talking bad about her. She felt this vase was becoming more and more brazen—daring to talk behind her back, despite appearing polite.
Qin Shiye saw Lin Qingyi just out of the shower, lazily drying her hair. Her skin looked even more supple after the bath. Lin Qingyi looked undeniably beautiful, and Qin Shiye, a straight woman, couldn’t help but feel a little biased. She didn’t even realize it—this was sour grapes.
As for being caught saying bad things, Qin Shiye was utterly fearless.
“My tongue is long. So what? Bite me?” Qin Shiye said with a teasing expression.
Lin Qingyi’s lips curved slightly, looking at Qin Shiye with a meaning-laden gaze. If there were no outsiders, she might actually bite this vase, leaving a mark to teach her a lesson.
Qin Shiye seemed to understand Lin Qingyi’s expression. Thinking that Lin Qingyi might actually bite her, she immediately lost her arrogant aura and felt inexplicably shy.
These two clearly weren’t just joking—they were flirting! Bai Wenxi and Fang Xinhua exchanged glances, realizing how bright these “light bulbs” were.
Fang Xinhua also noticed Lin Qingyi’s bare face and suddenly understood why her little one insisted on being bare-faced today: she was trying to outshine the actress Lin!
