Chapter 39: Spring Cannot Be Contained
Luo Luo felt too embarrassed to ask directly.
It had been her mistake to sell him, and now she was doubting him again—she had no right.
She remembered that Xiao Zhan had mentioned they hadn’t been together before, but she still wanted to clarify.
Xiao Zhan leaned close to her, casually brushing his fingers across her face now and then.
His warm breath drifted to her ears in tiny, ticklish puffs.
Noticing the change in her expression, he curved his lips in triumph.
Warm lips landed on her eyelashes, and Luo Luo felt a soft flush before her eyes.
Her heart skipped, and a cold breeze blew by, bringing a measure of composure.
“Even if you had been with her, I wouldn’t blame you.”
The law of males not being able to resist females seemed driven by hormones—they couldn’t help themselves.
Actually, this was even stronger than hormones; it could be fatal.
“So, just tell me the truth.”
Seeing Xiao Zhan always fidgeting with her and avoiding the topic, she guessed he was evading the question.
Men never liked to answer.
Looking at it this way, she didn’t even need to ask—whatever was going to happen between him and that she-wolf had probably already happened.
A sudden pang of discomfort rose in her chest. Luo Luo pushed him back, wanting more distance, irritation flaring.
She realized she was being a little double-standard—she had twelve handsome beast husbands, yet demanded that each could only have one female master: her.
She felt selfish, like a man cheating on his wife.
It was fine for her to “cheat,” but if her husband got involved with someone else, she’d be ready to strike.
“I was wrong. I won’t ask again.”
Luo Luo sighed. Things had already happened; what else could she do?
The she-wolf was dead, and she had no one to take revenge on.
Could she blame Xiao Zhan? He seemed quite innocent.
Xiao Zhan observed all her emotions and a hint of amusement appeared in his eyes.
“Master, if I truly betrayed you, how could I have the face to stay by your side?”
In the past, he had been temporarily misguided, but fortunately, no great disaster had occurred.
“Really?” Luo Luo’s eyes sparkled, clear and moist like bathwater.
“Really. Truly cannot be more true. Don’t believe me? Feel it.”
Xiao Zhan placed her hand on his chest, and she felt the strong, steady beat of his heart beneath her palm.
Thump. Thump. Like drumbeats. She leaned closer, giggling: “Your heart is beating so fast.”
“Yours isn’t slow either.”
“Let me hear it.”
Xiao Zhan pressed his ear against her chest. Luo Luo’s whole body pressed against the edge of the water bucket.
She worried it might tip over. “Did you hear it?”
“Yeah, hurry and move.”
Xiao Zhan smiled, lips pressed together. “I didn’t hear anything.”
He pulled her hand to clasp around his neck.
Luo Luo wanted to struggle, but Xiao Zhan asked, “Aren’t you cold?”
“No.”
At that moment, a sudden gust of wind blew.
“Ah-choo!”
She sneezed, and Xiao Zhan chided, “And you said you weren’t cold! Come hug me, I’ll warm you up.”
The hot, masculine body pressed against her. Luo Luo tilted her neck—what a tiring day.
“Um, the water’s cold. I’ll add some, so you can wash properly.”
She tried to escape, but Xiao Zhan whimpered:
“Master, didn’t you say both of us needed to bathe together to cure my illness? Don’t you love me anymore?”
Ignoring him completely, Luo Luo groaned, slapping her forehead. How could she forget such a thing?
Patting her head, she scolded herself to think straight.
No—why think straight?
This was her man. They had bathed together twice before; what was one more time?
“Later, we’ll have Chi Yao add more water,” Xiao Zhan said.
Chi Yao: Do I owe you something? Do you think I’m easy to bully? Come on, fight me!
Xiao Zhan held Luo Luo in his arms, afraid she might run again.
Chi Yao, tossing on the lawn unable to sleep, sneezed too.
Being unable to sleep beside the master, the long night felt endless.
Ziye leaned against a tree, feeling the same way.
He used to be able to sneak glances at Luo Luo from above, but now even turning over was difficult.
A total wreck.
The two little ones beside him slept soundly.
Indeed, the carefree are the happiest.
He opened his eyes and suddenly met a pair of inquisitive eyes.
Maya scolded sharply: “Why are you staring instead of sleeping? I know I’m beautiful, but if you dare have designs on the princess, I’ll skin you!”
Foolish male, unable to rest even while sleeping.
If the princess hadn’t asked her to watch over Ziye, she wouldn’t have bothered with him.
Frowning, she looked at the distance. Does it really take this long for the princess to bathe?
Previously, the princess would bathe in the river with her. Now, she had to bathe with that stinky tiger.
A bath? Really?
Sigh. Without her by the princess’s side, the princess clearly didn’t like her anymore.
Maya felt down, and Ziye got scolded again.
Too tired to protest, he just closed his eyes and played dead.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Xiao Zhan was determined to “take” Luo Luo.
He held her, eyes solemn: “Master, I want a little one—just one.”
Too many words made Luo Luo tired.
Just one—he would be satisfied.
The breeze lifted her damp hair. She hesitated.
“After your illness is cured.”
“Then it’s settled.”
“Mm.”
With Luo Luo’s promise, Xiao Zhan finally let go.
“Don’t move. As your beast husband, taking care of you is my duty.”
He pressed her into the water bucket, shook off water from himself, and put on his pants.
Using her red skirt, he gently dried the water from her hair.
“Wait until your hair dries before sleeping, or you’ll get sick,” he instructed tenderly.
Luo Luo nodded. “Thanks for taking care of me.”
Her hair was long, thick, and black. Without a hairdryer, letting it dry naturally took time and effort.
In China, she washed her hair daily, but now she avoided it unless necessary.
Xiao Zhan knelt on the floor, carefully drying each strand.
Luo Luo felt pampered and thought that this must be how rich ladies in ancient times lived.
The only difference: they had servants, while she had her own beast husbands.
Tall, handsome men.
In fact, her life was perhaps even better than theirs.
Smiling softly, she drifted into sleepiness.
Xiao Zhan lifted her from the bucket, meticulously drying her body.
Too sleepy to care about decorum, she let him continue.
Eyes closed, playing dead.
Though a little uneasy in her heart, her mind only wanted sleep.
That night, nobody slept well. The next day, everyone had huge dark circles under their eyes.
Ziye looked pale. If it weren’t for the rise and fall of his chest, everyone would think he was dead.
Luo Luo felt anxious. Ziye’s injuries hadn’t healed, so she hadn’t been in the mood for affection with Xiao Zhan the night before.
“How much longer?”
Why was the mouse tribe’s territory so far away?
“Ziye? Is that you, Brother Ziye?”
Not far off, a beautiful female ran over, chirping at Ziye.
