Blindingly Bright

CHAPTER~30

Blindingly Bright

“Don’t call me Sister any longer.”
As Yvonne spoke, everyone in the Glaston family froze.
Cedric, who had been sitting silently, raised his head.
It was his first time hearing Yvonne speak so firmly.

She had woken up looking incredibly pale, and everyone had grown nervous watching her expression grow more unfamiliar as the day went on.
Only Catherine remained confident.
She thought she had prepared Yvonne well enough for the situation.

“…Blan.”
Yvonne looked at Blan, who had been standing far away staring blankly.
Only then did he blink rapidly and rush to her side.

“Yes, Your Grace.”
“Take him away.”
She nodded at Logan.
Logan, who had been quietly watching, stepped forward and gently took Duke Leroy by the arm.
Catherine opened her mouth as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“W-wait.
Yvonne, what do you mean ‘take him away’?
Do you know who this is?”

“I know very well.”
Yvonne smiled faintly, yet strangely cold.
“He is Duke Leroy’s son.”

Everyone became confused for a moment.
The person in front of them was clearly a grown man, not a child.
Cedric’s expression hardened.

But Yvonne continued calmly.
“He is Duke Leroy’s son, and I am not his guardian.
I never agreed to be responsible for him.
And I never agreed to be forced into this marriage.”

“Yvonne!”
Catherine’s voice trembled.
“Do you understand what you’re saying?
The engagement was already—”

“That engagement,” Yvonne cut in quietly,
“was forced.”

Silence fell.
The word *forced* landed like a stone dropped in still water.

Cedric slowly closed his eyes.
He had sensed something had been wrong, but hearing her say it with her own voice…
His chest tightened painfully.

Yvonne continued, emotionless.
“It was decided without my consent.
I never agreed to marry someone I have never even spoken to.”

Her voice was calm, but every word struck harder than a scream.
Catherine stepped back as if she had been slapped.

“And one more thing,” Yvonne added.
“From this moment on… I am no longer part of this family.”

Derrick stood up sharply.
“Yvonne, don’t be ridiculous.
You think you can just walk away?”

“I’m not walking away.”
Yvonne met his gaze.
“I am taking back what was originally mine.”

Cedric’s breath caught.
He couldn’t understand what she meant.
But Yvonne’s eyes held a clarity he had never seen in her before.

Catherine staggered toward her.
“You are my husband’s daughter.
You are a Glaston—”

“No.”
Yvonne shook her head.
“Cedric’s Father raised me, yes.
But you never accepted me.
You never saw me as family.”

Catherine’s lips trembled.
She tried to say something but no words came out.

Yvonne turned.
“Logan.
Blan.
Let’s go.”

Cedric abruptly rose from his seat.
“Yvonne—”

She stopped.
But she didn’t turn around.

Cedric swallowed hard.
His voice was low, almost breaking.
“…Where will you go?”

Yvonne paused for a long moment.
When she finally answered, her voice was steady.

“Somewhere I can finally breathe.”

And without looking back, Yvonne walked out of the Glaston mansion for the last time.

What if I had bad intentions?” Despite all this, she was drawn to him—and fell hopelessly in love. She simply gave him her heart, the most precious thing she had. Endlessly, and relentlessly… But when she realized her own heart had completely dried out from trying to satisfy his, Yvonne killed “Yvonne, who had a crush on her husband,” and left.

***

Cedric didn’t love Yvonne. He approached her because she was his half-brother’s fiancée, took her away, and used her. That was all. The innocent woman, unaware of anything, smiled at him and loved him. It was a cruel, one-sided love. …Or so he thought—until his wife left. “Let’s get a divorce, Cedric.” Cedric’s first question, upon seeing the empty room, was whether it had really been his wife’s unrequited love.
