Chapter : 14
Absolutely unbelievable.
“You’re not just trusting me—you should naturally do so.”
Seoha looked at him, her face flushed, and spoke.
In response, Jaewon’s thick eyebrows arched crookedly.
“Naturally? That’s something I should decide, isn’t it? Especially with you.”
The man gave a short laugh.
Seoha pressed her lips together and glared at him.
But as if unaffected, he stared back intently.
Seoha felt a stubborn resolve rising within her.
“What do you think completes an interior?”
Was he really trying to continue this interview in such a situation? He asked the question.
“If it’s like this, I don’t want to continue the interview.”
Seoha said firmly, clenching her fists.
Her father’s face flashed in her mind, but she ignored it.
She no longer wanted to be in this man’s presence.
“Do you know how many people are waiting to join as designers here?”
“So are you saying that because I came in on my father’s request like a parachute, I don’t deserve to be treated as a person? If that’s the case, you could’ve rejected me from the start—why act so petty?”
Seoha spoke quickly, spilling her words.
“Is it proper to ask what completes an interior, as if it’s a matter of etiquette?”
Jaewon’s face, devoid of any trace of humor, was chillingly cold.
“……”
“Not thinking at all?”
“I came here today with some expectations, but I never imagined that a tasteless blind date guy would be sitting here. Goodbye. That’s my answer.”
Seoha calmly finished speaking, stood up as if there was nothing more to see, and headed for the door.
“Aren’t you going to stop?”
Stop! Can’t stop!
Seoha felt intimidated by the man’s ominous voice but walked steadily toward the door.
Step… step…
She heard his footsteps behind her.
Worried that he might be coming to grab her, Seoha spun around.
“You really don’t listen.”
“Why should I listen to you?”
“Can I… throw this in the trash?”
His dark eyes narrowed as he stared at her.
Ah, my portfolio book!
It was in his hand.
Seoha approached Jaewon with trembling steps.
As she reached out to grab the portfolio, he pulled it back.
“Not going to tell me?”
“Give it to me, while I’m still in a good mood.”
“What do you think completes an interior? Tell me.”
Persistent human.
Seoha’s eyes sparkled, and a smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
“…Fine. The completion of an interior is the person who will live in the house. No matter how beautifully decorated, if someone who doesn’t appreciate it lives there, it’s meaningless, right?”
Her voice cracked at the end.
She had compared him metaphorically, but he seemed either not to understand, pretending not to, or deliberately ignoring, as he stubbornly repeated his question.
“Before that. Let’s assume the right person lives there. I mean the step before that.”
Seoha fought the urge to shout, “Give me back my portfolio, you pervert, sea anemone, psycho!”, and answered with trembling lips.
She had never been tested like this before in her life.
“Lighting. I think it’s the lighting. Placing lights in the right spots makes the space feel richer.”
“……”
A brief silence fell between them.
His deep, dark eyes penetrated her without hesitation.
Why is this pervert acting so frighteningly?
“Come to work. The HR team will contact you.”
He slightly revealed his perfectly aligned teeth in a small smile and handed the portfolio to her.
The tense atmosphere from moments ago loosened.
It only took one of his dangerously charming smiles.
Truly, he was impossible.
Seoha snatched back the portfolio.
She raised her head proudly and left the office.
“…Pretending to be so deadly.”
Every gesture, step, and movement of the man was unusual.
Perhaps having overheard her muttering, the secretary approached, looking at Seoha with wide eyes.
Seoha bowed slightly and hurried to the elevator.
People she would never see again.
“Seoha Kang?”
Mihyeon caught up to the girl who seemed to be fleeing.
This was a special hire by the president.
Something that hadn’t happened before, and probably wouldn’t again.
Seeing the protagonist in front of her, Mihyeon smiled as she thought about the announcements she would have to make.
“Why… why is that?”
Her eyes, full of suspicion, looked adorable.
“I’m Mihyeon Kim, the Chief Secretary. Can we talk for a moment?”
“With me?”
“Yes.”
Seoha, clutching her portfolio tightly to her chest, looked like a frightened puppy.
“There are a few things to prepare before you start working.”
“…Ah, I…”
Mihyeon changed her mind seeing Seoha bite her full lips, unsure of what to do.
It seemed better to notify her via text.
“You’ll receive a message on your phone today. Please read it carefully and bring the necessary documents when you come to work.”
“Ah…”
“And if you have any questions, you can contact the number listed in the message.”
“Understood.”
“Thank you for your effort. See you on your first day.”
Special hires by the president weren’t announced by HR. Everything was Mihyeon’s responsibility.
She had to report after the fact.
Mihyeon signaled to the assistant to guide Seoha to the elevator.
“…Pretending to be so deadly.”
The president must have heard that too, right?
The only daughter of President Kang, and a woman who had met the president for a blind date.
A meaningful smile spread across Mihyeon’s lips.
“…Pretending to be deadly.”
Even while working, Jaewon smiled softly at the thought.
There was something agreeable about her sudden remark.
Usually, if he pressured someone that hard, even the most worn-down team leaders in this industry would be scrambling, but Seoha had spoken her mind clearly—it was no ordinary feat.
If only her skills matched that level.
In fact, while looking at her portfolio, he had already decided which department to place her in.
Among the works in her portfolio, one piece caught his eye.
It wasn’t just about using bold colors—it was interior design that created a striking impression by coordinating art pieces of similar hues on the walls.
Jaewon had planned to use media art on the wall connecting to the dining room as a design accent just a few days ago. He couldn’t help but be surprised.
It was as if she had gotten inside his head and translated his ideas.
And her answer to his question:
“Lighting. I think it’s the lighting. Placing lights in the right spots makes the space feel richer.”
It matched his own thoughts.
Despite seeming reckless, she clearly had a philosophy about interior design.
He’d see for himself as time went on.
Knock. Knock.
Jaewon stopped thinking about Seoha and answered the door.
“Yes?”
The team leader entered.
“What’s going on?”
Jaewon looked at his watch and stood up.
The weekly operations support team report was about to start—time for the meeting.
The team leader hesitated, glancing at Jaewon.
“Did someone come by?”
“Shouldn’t you tell me why you’re here first?”
“Oh, I just wanted to see if you checked the 3DMAX work.”
“Not yet.”
Jaewon’s cold tone made Jisoo shrug and hide her embarrassment.
“We have to go into the meeting now. I’ll explain later.”
Jaewon buttoned his shirt cuffs and put on his jacket.
“Uh, sir… did you hire a designer?”
Jaewon’s brows furrowed slowly.
“Rumors spread fast. Who said that?”
The secretary’s mouth shouldn’t be that loose…
Could it be the newly hired assistant?
Jaewon braced himself and asked.
