Chapter 3

The roar of a monster echoed across the silent land.

A man quietly reached out and grabbed the sword resting beside the sofa.

Lately, monsters had been appearing even near the mansion — much more often than before.

It was all because the possessed one (the person who had entered someone else’s body) had left this place for a ridiculous reason.

The man’s emotionless face glimmered coldly. His hand tightened on the sword’s hilt.

He didn’t care how many monsters appeared — he could simply cut them down.

What he wanted wasn’t some worthless monsters.

“If the possessed one comes back…”

He stood up from the sofa. His steps down the moonless hallway were steady and sure.

As he stared into the darkness at the end of the corridor, he made up his mind:

“I’ll put a leash on them the moment they’re caught.”

***

“Ah!”

The moment I opened my eyes, I saw a mirror — and gasped.

“Holy… I’m gorgeous.”

My face was small and perfectly balanced — the features all fit together so well.

My eyes were huge, almost too pretty to be real, and my nose curved delicately. Even though I wasn’t wearing any makeup, my cheeks and lips had a rosy glow.

It felt like seeing a celebrity’s bare face in real life.

As I couldn’t stop staring at my reflection, Lila — the assistant standing beside me — looked at her papers and said:

“The setting says you’re supposed to look ‘ordinary but cute.’ If we pick a bright color for your hair and eyes, you’ll look even prettier.”

“Ordinary? This looks like a goddess to me!”

“Let me show you the color chart.”

She opened a thick book filled with locks of hair in all different colors — like the ones in a salon, but much thicker.

I set the heavy chart on my lap and flipped through it carefully, focusing harder than I ever did while studying.

“Maybe something not too flashy — pink or red might be too much.”

Since I’d be wearing fancy dresses from a romance fantasy world, I thought something softer would look better.

Then I found the page full of golden blond hair samples, labeled with dramatic names like “Summer Sunshine,” “A Drop of Lemon,” and “Sunflower’s Wink.”

As I studied them, Lila brought a tray full of colored contact lenses.

“Once you pick a color, I’ll help you try them on.”

She was pushing several trays full of lenses — there must’ve been hundreds of shades.

Feeling dizzy from all the colors, I closed my eyes briefly and said,

“I’ve decided.”

“Already? But I haven’t even shown you everything yet!”

I smiled a little. In my head, I pictured something fitting for a supporting character — not too flashy, but elegant.

“For hair, I’ll take this one — ‘Sand Shattered by Moonlight.’”
“Okay.”
“And for the eyes… blue, but with a bit of gray mixed in.”

I wanted to follow the classic “blonde hair and blue eyes” look — but I didn’t want to stand out too much. After all, I was just a side character.

Lila searched through the tray and said excitedly,

“Ah, you mean faded sandy hair with soft moonlight-gray-blue eyes?”
“Um… not that poetic, but sure.”

I mumbled awkwardly, but she beamed.

“That’s the exact same setting as the original novel! How did you know?”
“What?”

Apparently, my taste matched perfectly with the story’s original design. Lucky me… I guess.

“Wouldn’t it be too plain, though? You could go for something more eye-catching.”

I shook my head.

“No, I like it.”

Besides, I’d be staying home most of the time — no one but me would see this face anyway.

Lila nodded and poured a bit of glowing essence into my hair. Magically, my black hair began to lighten from the tips upward.

“Let’s change your eyes now!”

She dropped a few special eye drops into my eyes — and when I looked back into the mirror…

A stranger was staring at me.

Soft sandy-blonde hair sparkled faintly like sprinkled stardust.
My eyes shone like moonlight reflected on water — calm yet glowing.

It was beautiful enough to take my breath away.

“Now, let’s move to the dressing room,” Lila said cheerfully.

Wait—there’s more?

Changing my hair and eyes didn’t take too long, but I was already exhausted.

Seeing my tired expression, Lila glanced at my clothes.

“Uh… the bee pajamas.”

Oh no.

I jumped up from my seat.

“Since your first scene is in the bedroom, we’ll start by choosing sleepwear,” she explained.

As a homebody, I had strict pajama rules:
Soft cotton, machine washable, slightly loose, and no lace or frills (they always rip in the wash).

Basically, my favorite kind was an old, stretched-out T-shirt —
…but obviously, a noble lady couldn’t wear that.

“Your character’s a count’s daughter with average wealth. This way, please.”

A staff member named Anna guided me into a dressing room bigger than my entire apartment. Each wardrobe was organized by class — gold-trimmed for nobles, dark wood for mid-rank families.

When Anna opened one, lace and ribbons practically exploded out.

“Why are there so many types of pajamas?!”

Lila and Anna dove in, flipping through clothes at lightning speed. Soon, their arms were stacked with outfits.

“Try this one first!”

Before I could react, someone yanked my bee-print pajamas off my head.

“Aaaah!”

Before I even remembered what I was wearing underneath, a soft silk nightdress slipped over my body.

They pushed me toward a mirror before I could protest.

“Huh? …Wow, it’s actually pretty.”

The silky white nightdress was simple, elegant, and comfortable.

But the two women frowned at the same time.

“Too plain.”

Before I could say a word, another outfit came flying my way.

***

After trying on what felt like a hundred outfits, I finally collapsed on a sofa.

Please, just let me possess the character already…

As someone who only shopped online, this real-life fitting torture was too much.

While I lay half-dead, Lila and Anna argued again.

“She should look elegant.”
“No! She’s just turned adult — we can’t waste her youthful vibe!”

I didn’t even want to join their debate.

My eyes wandered and landed on a jewelry box. Inside, one bracelet caught my eye — simple, but the stone was the same color as my new eyes.

I picked it up.

“I’ll go with the first nightdress — the plain one. But can I take this bracelet?”

The two women stopped and looked over.

“Oh, that’s a moonstone…”

Their voices faltered. I tilted my head.

“What’s wrong? Am I not allowed to take it?”

They exchanged glances.

“It’s fine — but that’s actually a magic stone. It has protective powers.”

Before they could explain more, there was a knock on the dressing room door.

“Time’s up,” the manager said from outside.

So the dress and bracelet I picked were finalized.

When I stepped outside, the manager spoke seriously.

“Once you pass through this door, your memories of this place will disappear, and the possession will begin.”

I nodded tiredly. An assistant handed me a small guidebook.

“Please don’t lose this — it can’t be reissued.”
“Okay…”

I was out of energy. The manager opened the door.

Finally! My bed awaits!

I ran toward the light. As soon as I passed through, bright light filled my vision, and my body went weak.

I closed my eyes.

Deep inside the imperial palace, on a sacred altar —
a massive magic stone began to glow and rise into the air.

A bored young servant cleaning nearby dropped his broom in shock.

“S-sir Knight!”

Before he could even call out, a knight rushed into the chamber and looked up, eyes wide in surprise.
