Chapter 33
When we moved to another room, the owner went to get the shoes. Gilbert guided me to a nearby chair and had me sit down.
Being shown into the back room like this must mean it’s one of those so-called VIP rooms, right? As expected of a duke’s household… it really is something.
Once again, I realized that I was living in the world of nobles.
“Tianna, could you take off your shoes?”
“…Yes.”
Although I was a little puzzled by Gilbert’s request, Tianna immediately removed her shoes.
Ah. The spot where I had a blister had peeled and was bleeding. Maybe when I tripped earlier, it started bleeding then.
If I put on new shoes like this, the blood will seep through.
“Luxion.”
Gilbert reached his hand out toward Luxion.
“Yes.”
With that, Luxion handed Gilbert something that looked like paper.
“Could you lift your foot up a little?”
When he said that, I raised my foot slightly toward Gilbert.
Eh?
Then Gilbert applied a bandage to the bleeding spot on my foot and even put a fresh pair of socks on me.
“…Thank you very much.”
What’s gotten into Gilbert today? I could have put on the bandage myself, and I can wear socks on my own too, but he went out of his way to do it for me.
Could it be that the reason he carried me here earlier was to spare my feet?
And Luxion’s “errand” just now—was it to get bandages and socks? Even I hadn’t realized my foot was bleeding.
“Luxion, that errand earlier—was it for the bandages and socks? Thank you for getting them.”
There’s no way socks in my exact size just happened to be in the carriage. He must have gone and bought them.
“Oh, no, no. It was because Lord Gilbert told me to fetch them.”
“Eh, really?”
But when I looked earlier, he had only nodded.
“When you tripped just now, I caught a glimpse. Sorry for letting you walk without realizing your foot was hurt.”
(The shoes used by the duke’s family are custom-made. It’s rare for them to cause blisters. Lily and Isabella must not have provided Tianna with new shoes even as her body grew. Among the things those two stole, shoes were included as well. They could fetch a good price if sold.)
“No, it’s fine. I wanted to walk around the city on my own two feet and see everything for myself…”
“Young lady, you don’t have to endure it.”
Luxion was looking at me with a pained expression.
I must have seemed like I was holding back.
And truthfully, I was enduring it a little, but I thought saying anything would be bothersome to them.
“…My foot does hurt a little, maybe.”
“You did well to say it.”
Luxion praised me with a warm smile.
As I sat there waiting, the owner finally returned.
